  4. Action has started. I'm already out of it. 'Saxophone Colossus' already at $1,225 with 'Candy' at $460. With five more days to go
  5. Have always had a special fondness for that label. The memories of listening to the new albums by Monk, Rollins, Bill Evans, etc... as they came out remain vivid. The catalogue was pretty unique. Who else provided leaders sessions for musicians like Ernie Henry or Wilbur Ware. The albums by Bobby Jaspar, Johnny Griffin, Blue Mitchell, Benny Golson, Tadd Dameron and others are to be treasured.
  6. I'll follow the proceedings and may jump in if the prices are reasonable!

  10. Phineas Newborn Jr. 'Jamaica' (RCA Victor) arrangements by A.K. Salim
  11. That Yugoslavian film might be Dusan Makavejev's 'W.R.- Mysteries of the Organism'. From 1971.
  12. The liner notes mention Bop 26 as an original 78RPM issue for the Moore's 'What is This Thing Called For?' track. On the 3CD set (as on the Savoy SLJ2242 vinyl), the track is 13m35s!
  13. I did. It left enough a mark on my mind to avoid forcing our son to get piano lessons when he was a kid. He rebelled against the idea and is now an excellent amateur pianist! I have not seen the film in decades. It probably aged badly!
  14. That's not her birth certificate
  15. I say YES! The photos make the book! Many of them are priceless! It may take a long while before the book gets published in english. That's what I understand froma conversation I had with Nadine de Koenigswarter this week.
  16. Knew that! Now do you know that Billie Holiday's name on her birth certificate was Elinore Harris?
  17. Buddy de Franco and his Music 'Bravura' (Verve mono, trumpet label)
  18. Big Beat Steve, most of the music in that Bopland 3CD set has already been issued! 19. Not so fast ... Second man held in murders probe Good thing I retired! That's the kind of statement that would have had me in deep trouble. But then I would have been much, much more careful before going ahead with that!
  20. Elvin Jones 'Merry-go-round' (BN, BN/UA label)
  21. Don't have a complete list but the following were in that batch: Sarah Vaughan + 2 Dakota Staton Dynamic Irene Kral 'The Band and I' The Intimate June Christy Dinah (Shore) Sinds, Previn Plays Julie London 'Around Midnight'
  22. No need to feel embarassed... a 1937 session with Charlie Christian would have been an amazing first!
  23. From AP:
  24. The live session is dated September 24, 1939 in the very thorough (and reliable) Charlie Christian discography Charlie Christian Solography The session first appeared in the Columbia twofer 'Solo Flight' in 1972. Chris Albertson (remember him?) wrote that it was 'issued for the first time on record, (the tracks) were privately cut on acetate discs in a Minneapolis club by Jerry Newhouse, a disc jockey'. The album gave the recording date as Sept. 21, 1939. Anyway, great stuff indeed!
