  5. KD lives!
  6. Cecil wasn't enamorated with the RVG sound. Period. When CT was in Paris in 1966 - that was before I heard those two BNs - we had arguments about the way RVG captured the Miles Davis Quintet on those Prestige sessions. I was trying to defend that sound, Cecil was against! Hard to win against Cecil Taylor I didn't!
  7. Stollman wanted and did make a play. CT did not want. Friends who attended the Unit Structures recording session said it was not a very happy scene. CT did not like the way RVG captured the sound.
  8. Creative Construction Company (Muse) with Muhal Richard Abrams, Anthony Braxton, Richard Davis, Leroy Jenkins, Steve McCall, Leo Smith. Recording Supervisor: Ornette Coleman
  9. Some Inner City albums that were recorded for the label: Ted Curson 'Jubilant Power' Eddie Jefferson 'The Main Man' David Friesen 'Waterfall Rainbow' There are others....
  10. One major difference between BN and Impulse is that one was run by a couple of people with a passion for jazz, the other by people who were running a music business venture (ABC-Paramount) and tried their luck with jazz. Nothing wrong with that. Impulse had people like Creed Taylor and Bob Thiele to make sure the products made an impact.
  11. Can't ever remember seeing any Carson releases
  12. Bobby Hackett & Jack Teagarden 'Jazz Ultimate' (Capitol, mono)
  13. The resemblance is there! I'm not sure I'll like the sound!
  14. The Blue Note logo on that Dutch album seems to be the only item that reminds us of the good old BN days
  15. I believe that the live recordings at the Haig by Wardell Gray, Art Pepper, Shorty Rogers, Sonny Criss, Warne Marsh & others were made by a young amateur recordist named Bob Andrews, who began shopping the tapes around in the 1970's. Sound quality varies, but is usually acceptable. Bob Andrews also taped sessions at the Lighthouse. They included dates with the Lighthouse All Stars (with Sonny Clark and Hampton Hawes at the piano), Stan Getz. These were issued in Japan on the Vantage label along with more tapes from Andrews of Art Pepper, Al Haig and Lee Konitz, Pinky Winters and Zoot Sims, Richie Kamuca and others. Those albums remain hard to get!
  16. Shelly Manne 'The Manne We Love' (EastWorld/Toshiba) with Conte Candoli, Ted Nash Jr., Mike Wofford, John Heard and Chuck Flores (two-drummer date!)
  17. even today's BN? BN is Lion/Wolff! Beyond that it's a different world
  18. The ducal 'A Drum Is a Woman' was recorded 50 years ago! Bet we will see a reissue from Andorra soon! In the meantime, I'll keep spinning the French CBS vinyl reissue!
  19. I've killed all the other idols Yet I have kept my faith in the infallibility of BN! One has got to believe in something. It's BN for me
  20. This thread is sacrilegious
  21. Dewey Redman is not heard on the vinyl version of this album!
  22. Discovered this superb session when MartyJazz included a track from the album in his BFT 28. Thanks again Marty for this Had not paid attention to it before!
  23. Keno Duke/Contemporaries 'Sense of Values' (Strata-East) with George Coleman, Frank Strozier, Harold Mabern and Lisle Atkinson
  24. Couple more hours to go - and no bid yet - for this rare Miles Davis CD set not vinyl! The Last Word!
  25. I was in New York when those two Elmo Hope were released in 1977. Bought those LPs at the old J&R location at Nassau Street! The sessions were produced by Herb Abramson for his Festival Records label but seem to have remained unissued until their Inner City releases!
