  1. The photo was taken in December 1957 in Paris by André Sas, one of the ever present photographer at jazz gigs at the time. This was probably taken at the bar in the backstage of the Olympia concert hall, if I remember well!
  2. No bid on this one yet. A bit high for a starting price. This True Blue just went slightly higher! Bidding price was brought lower. Still no taker in the end!
  3. That 'Doodlin' date was recorded in France but was not released here. There were new Shepp albums coming out every month at the time on various labels. Don't think they sold that well. 'Doodlin' was originally released in Japan on Overseas.
  4. The great photographer Leonard Freed died this week. Some of his outstanding photos can be seen here
  5. Another Rollins trio classic:
  6. Earlier today: Clark Terry 'Something Mellow' (Moodsville, mono) now spinning: Clark Terry with Thelonious Monk 'In Orbit' (Riverside, mono)
  7. Yes, Dmitry! A very nice relaxed session with great sound from RVG. Hope you had better to drink with your new pals than a simple vino. Something like a Chateau Terrey Gros Caillou, an excellent wine from the Saint-Julien vineyars outside Bordeaux My DG copy sounds indeed excellent! No surface noise here except for a couple of tiny cracks!
  8. Yes, it's Hank Jones on piano. The film was included in the double DVD 'The Greatest Jazz Films Ever' which has been discussed on various threads here.
  9. Claude, I saw the photo when it was still available. I don't see the humor in it Didn't think it was that funny! I probably don't share the humor with some others!
  10. George Russell 'Jazz In The Space Age' (Decca, stereo)
  11. Previous thread Can't add much. I have not been to Belgium in too long a time!
  12. The photo is gone by now! I'm one of those who missed the gag Lost in translation

    Booker Little

I have this Strand Slide Hampton LP. It comes with very detailed backliner notes written by Mort Goode (with obvious consultations with Slide Hampton) which details Hampton's contributions to the album. No indication that Booker Little helped with the writing on those. Also and to quote from Goode 'PATRICIA is the middle name of Slide's wife. He paints colour and sound using open and block voicings'. And to answer Jim's post, the liner notes mention the Slide Hampton band and the Strand album came after Slide's departure from the Maynard Ferguson orchestra.
  14. Ghost, thanks for the link! Speaking of James Ellroy... Not sure it is really good news! (RDK already mentioned this project!) From Reuters
  15. Those Mulligan Sextet Japanese EmArcy vinyls were beautiful. They would make a perfect Mosaic Select!
  16. How is that? I saw PJC has/had a copy. My favorite Sonny Fortune. Smashing session, plus there is Charles Sullivan on trumpet, one of my top underrated musician! Now spinning: Dave Burrell 'Round Midnight' (Denon)
  17. I have kept them since the early days of Mosaic. Those brochures are among the items I keep. I threw away too many things in the past
  18. Good news for red-wine drinkers, me in particular since I often travel to southwestern France and enjoy the local wines! From BBC NEWS To everyone's good health
  19. More sad news! Loved the sound of his tuba. He contributed so much to that Mingus classic album 'The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady'.
  20. Miles's firstborn son speaks. From The Village Voice this week.
  21. Brad's the top
  22. Sonny Fortune 'Long Before Our Mothers Cried' (Strata-East)
  23. Had a quick look and that Wild Bill Davis Sue LP is not even listed in the standard jazz discographies!
  24. Désolé, Michel! It's one of thousands of jazz vinyls I missed -_-
  25. chewy, I'm still looking for Ruby Braff 'Blowing Around the World' (United Artists) That's one! Give me time to think of another one
