Wow! Many thanks to all! Today is going to be a low-key affair (but with good music, food, wine, cigar et al!). The real affair will be held in Bordeaux where my better half and I travel at the end of the week to help our son move into his new place!

Frank Butler 'Wheelin' and Dealin'' (Xanadu)

Some of the prices quoted from the PJC website tend to be on the expensive side but the quotes in the Cote Européenne book look pretty accurate. By the way Clifford, Ichecked the book for a couple of Brotzmann FMP vinyls. They are listed in the €21-30 range which seems OK.

The French Fontana operation was part of the Philips conglomerate. The Miles Davis soundtrack to the film 'Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud' and the Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers soundtrack to the film 'Des Femmes Disparaissent', also for 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' originally appeared with the Fontana imprint. A number more of jazz interest albums also came out on French Fontana.

Paris Jazz Corner does not have copies of this any more, from what I remember. If I run into a secondhand copy (I have seen a couple of those), I'll PM you

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

The Complete Johnny Hodges Verve 1956-61, disc 2... ... next disc 3 -
You mean the 'Cote Europeennedu Jazz' book that came out in 2002? Written by PJC headman Arnaud Boubet. I find that one pretty accurate and obviously the people dealing with vinyls use the book as reference from what I see in secondhand shops and record conventions.

They sound good to me but I'm no audiophile! ← I'm being tempted

Sonny Rollins 'Movin' Out' with Thelonious Monk/Kenny Dorham (Prestige 50th St.)
-
The looks are good but I have no idea how they sound. I have stayed away from their releases so far. The Gambit albums I have seen are an odd mix from various sessions and from various labels (Verve, BN, Pacific Jazz, UA, Decca, etc...). I'm usually pretty open about these Spanish-Andorran releases but these Gambits are quite an odd mix and do not feel right!

You may! Quality boots... but boots!

When King Japan reissued those Contemporary vinyls, they stuck to the original designs of the 12". What a great set of reissues these were! The King reissue LP I have has that color shot of Kessel by William Claxton.
-
The one on the right is the original 12" release (sorry, Jim and hoping, I won't be proved wrong...). Always pretty difficult to identify a genuine Contemporary original release. My take on this is that if you have problems pulling out the vinyl from the album cover and reinserting it back, it is an original Always had problem with those original albums and I was afraid of tearing the jacket apart every time I pulled the vinyl out. The later issues had slightly larger jackets.

Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers at Club Saint-Germain (1958, RCA) should be on the list.
