Earl Hines and Budd Johnson also were recorded at Johnnie's Club in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1968. Black and Blue released a twofer of this 'A Night at Johnnie's'. That was a superb set, too!

Mosaic sets for €59,99 (www.jpc.de)
brownie replied to Alfred's topic in Offering and Looking For...
At that price, the Basie box looks more than tempting. May jump on it as soon as my bank account tolerates this. Hope it won't be too late! Thanks for the various advices... -
Excellent series carefully remastered! Have not seen anything new from them lately. Hope they're working on new sets! They started with a piano set that included all the important pianists from more than 50 years ago. The Tresors du Jazz 1954 set is announced for release on October 27!

Many thanks Larry for your views on this album. Makes me reach for my copy and spin it right away...

Nothing of the kind, still quite a mess... But our son is leaving town in a few days to complete his medical studies and Madame brownie has agree to have his room taken over - partly! - by the overflow of albums. Order may then be restored

That's Paul Gonsalves!

The Paris Olympia concert tapes were probably obtained from the Europe 1 radio station that produced the concert. Keepnews indicated in the notes to the Monk Riverside box that he had no connection with the tapes to the Paris and Milan concerts that were released on Riverside to fulfill the Monk obligations to the label. There were two concerts by Monk at the Olympia that day. Both also featured opening appearances by the Lou Bennett Trio with Jimmy Gourley and Kenny Clarke, plus Barney Wilen with the trio.

Happy Birthday May the next half century be beautiful!! -
That was on a RCA Novus CD c/w a John Carter/Bobby Bradford album - one of them had a track missing on that CD, however. West Coast Hot was the CD title. ← Thanks Mike. Found this 'West Coast Hot' a while ago. I did not make the connection with the Flying Dutchman origin!

Caught the last few minutes of a 1987 French film that was shown on TV this week. April is a deadly month I have yet to see the full film which had some critical success when it was released. The film ended with some very good jazz featuring a guitar solo. The titles credited the guitar solo to Johnny Smith! Was not aware that Johnny Smith had been hired to take part in the music soundtrack which was composed by Philippe Sarde. I haven't been able to find out whether the music was issued on CD.

Yes, yes. Pele scored three of the Brazilian goals in that semifinal. Score at that semifinal was another 5-2 victory for Brazil. Pele's name is etched in my memory since What a sublime player he was! And what a pleasure it was watching those fantastic Brazilian games. France could not be beaten by a better team!

Neveronfriday, if you can find it suggest you get the 142-page book by Erik Kjellberg 'Jan Johansson, A Visionary Swedish Musician'. It's written in english, is an excellent introduction to Johansson's music and comes with a CD that contains 18 selections from various albums. The book was published by Svensk Musik in 1998.

Jim, not sure if that's what your son was asking but the player who scored most goals in a World Cup is Frenchman Just Fontaine. Fontaine scored 13 goals in six games at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. That record remains unsurpassed nearly half a century later and is likely to remain so for a very long time...
