    Earl Vandyke

This thread brings back contributions from posters I miss seeing here: Leeway and Aric! Earl VanDyke and Fred Jackson are being missed too! On a more uplifting mood: The Magnificient Goldberg, welcome to this Board!
  3. McCoy Tyner's trio currently touring Europe has Reginald Veal on bass and Eric Kamau Gravatt on drums.
  4. Roscoe Mitchell Sextet 'Sound' (Delmark) the mono version, probably one of the last monaural vinyl released in its time!
  5. Reading thru this thread, makes me happy I have kept my original BN mono vinyl! Have not tested any of the CD reissues!
  6. I was at that 1966 Comblain-la-Tour festival! Doc Cheatham and Les Spann (on guitar) were in the Benny Goodman small band. Other groups at the festival were Stan Getz, Anita O'Day, Paul Bley, Barney Wilen, Henri Texier, also Peter Brotzmann in one of his very first appearances! Also Brian Auger with a very amateurish but lovely Julie Driscoll! I remember reading somewhere that the appearance costs for the Benny Goodman group were so prohibitive that the 1966 festival turned out to be the last one! There was no money left in the books!

    Michel Roques

I was at the Early Bird Club jam session with Pharoah Sanders. Sanders and his group (with Lonnie Liston Smith) was appearing at the Antibes-Juan les Pins festival then. Did not realize it was taped! Lots of great memories from those concerts and that jam session. All this took place right after the 1968 French riots! Michel Roques was blind and self taught. Excellent and very underrated musician. He often played saxophones and flute at the same time a la Roland Kirk but he was his own man! He played whenever possible on the French jazz scene and jammed with Bud Powell, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin and others. I have been told he died in poverty not very long ago. Could not find any confirmation of this.
