brownie replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Quite a number of record shops selling used CDs around town. Prices range from $6 to $13. Many around $10. -
I'm fond of the vocal version by Anita O'Day from her 'Anita Sings the Winners' Verve album!

But not as out as his ride in François Tusques 'Le Nouveau Jazz'

Nice vinyl session with: - Walt Dickerson Quartet 'This Is Walt Dickerson' (New Jazz, reissue), - Don Friedman 'Avenue of the Americas' (Owl) to be followed by: - Martial Solal Trio 'Concert à Gaveau, Vol. 2' (French Columbia) Thanks to Daniel A. for mentioning this concert!
-
Mike, sorry to confirm that I'm from an older generation and my copy of The Lord is paper. Just too lazy to type all the Shearing stuff
-
I'll stick with my £5 Japanese Victor.. ← I'll stick with my Japanese Union vinyl. Can't remember exactly how much I paid for it but it could not be much higher than yours! That Union vinyl comes with a great foldout cover that displays a black and white closeup of Flanagan on its front and one of Elvin Jones on the back cover. There is a SwingJournal Seal of Approval sticker on the front! The disc got my approval too
-
Mike, the March 1954 George Shearing recording sessions are listed as having been recorded in Los Angeles in The Lord! McKibbon and Armando Peraza must have had a busy day in LA on March 25, 1954.
-
Daniel, the Martial Solal release on Milestone is made up of two Solal Trio concerts at Salle Gaveau which were originally issued on Columbia France (as 'Jazz A Gaveau' and 'Concert A Gaveau, vol. 2'). The original copies I have list: - Lucien, Valsons (named for jazz critic Lucien Malson), sted of 'Let's Waltz', - 'Sous le Ciel de Paris' (the classic Hubert Giraud song made popular by Edith Piaf and Yves Montand, among others), sted of 'Under Paris Skies', - 'Petite Poupée' (a Solal composition) sted of 'Little Doll', - 'Vice et Versa' (another Solal pun), sted of 'Vice Versa'
-
The recording date for this session is listed as November 9, 1963. The Ruppli-Cuscuna BN discography confirms this date.

You'll regret this for the rest of your life Just kidding This from somebody who has been married to the same person for 35 years! Looks like a great wedding! Congratulations to both of you

Brownie, how does KD stack up on this one? I'm a big Drew fan but don't have this one. I take it this is filed under Sims? Thanks! ← Then you should try and get it (this seems to have been reissued on CD). Drew and Zoot are very compatible on this very well recorded live date. Yes, it's filed under Sims.

The Actuels albums with me have the liner notes in their original French. Guess whoever translated this faced serious problems getting inside the spirit of the text!

Seems like both are limited editions, if I read the first post correctly. ← The original LP release was on the Charles Mingus label. Very limited edition. This was reissued - with the help of Fred Cohen of the Jazz Record Shop - on the East Coasting label as a double LP too. Limited edition again. There was also an East Coasting EP, not sure if it was sold with the double LP. The EP was this one: http://webusers.siba.fi/~eonttone/mingus/details/ecep1.html
