  2. No offense indeed and no problem. I have been wise enough to keep most of the yellow label vinyls of many of those Prestige!
  3. Not in a selling mood now Have a near flawless 1st edition of this one!
  4. This is currently being shown on one of the French film channels. No fan of those British horror films but I was lucky and caught the film shortly ahead of the appearance of the Tubby Hayes quintet blowing up a storm - and this is meant literally - in a 'voodoo' sequence. Short sequence with good playing (Jimmy Deuchar is on trumpet, ghosting for an actor, according to David Meeker's 'Jazz in the Movies'. I'll spare the comments on the section of the film I endured... House of Terrors
  5. Charles Sullivan 'Genesis' (Strata East)

  11. You could check the Paris Jazz Corner site. I used to buy directly from the shop (which is a slightly different operation). They may be a bit expensive but I understand they do very good service!
  12. Hope you're having a great one
  13. Don Cherry ''Mu'' first part (Byg Actuel 1)
  14. Larry, now if we compare Rowles to OP, no argument from this side! I like Peterson, but I love Rowles! And if you add Mondragon and Kessel, the case rests! Just wanted to point out how good that 'Soulville' date was!
  15. 'Soulville' is among the very best of the Ben Webster Verve recordings. And it works because of the backing by Oscar Peterson. To quote from the original notes - by Nat Hentoff - to the 'Soulville' album: 'Ben is very fond of the Peterson trio. ''For one thing,'' he begins, ''there are some piano players that get in your way, but Oscar never does and so you have nothing to worry about. One of the things I dig about him is that the guy can play a lot as a soloist, but when it comes time for you to solo, he plays for you.'' This shows on 'Soulville'. 'Ill Wind' from that session is a classic!
  16. October 22: 1948 - Brew Moore (Gene DiNovi, Jimmy Johnson, Stan Levey) record session for Savoy (The Tenor Sax of Brew Moore) 1952 - Dave Brubeck Quartet (Paul Desmond, Ron Crotty, Lloyd Davis) at Storyville, released on Fantasy (Jazz at Storyville) 1953 - Louis Armstrong with the Commanders (Billy Butterfield, Cutty Cutshall, Lou McGarity, Hymie Schetzer, Bernie Leighton, Carmlen Mastren, etc...) record session for Decca ('Cool Yule', 'The Gypsy', etc...) 1954 - George Wallington (Clyde Lombardi, Dave Uchitel, strings, etc...) record session for Norgran (George Wallington With Strings) 1955 - Howard McGhee (Sahib Shihab, Duke Jordan, Percy Heath, Philly Joe Jones) record session for Bethlehem (The Return of Howard McGhee) 1956 (also Nov.9 and Jan. 17) - Howard Roberts (Bob Enevoldsen, Marty Paich, Red Mitchell, Alvin Stoller, etc...) record sesion for Verve (Mister Roberts Plays Guitar) 1956 - Louis Jordan (Ernie Royal, Jimmy Cleveland, Sam Taylor, Budd Johnson, Wendell Marshall, Charles Persip, Quincy Jones) record session for Mercury (Somebody Up There Likes Me) 1957 - Lee Konitz (Billy Bauer, Henry Grimes, Dave Bailey) record session for Verve (Tranquillity) 1958 - Donald Byrd Quintet (Bobby Jaspar, Walter Davis, Doug Watkins, Art Taylor) concert at the Paris Olympia, released on Brunswick (Byrd in Paris) 1959 - Stuff Smith (John Eaton, Lewis Parker, Harry Saunders) record session for Verve (Cat on a Hot Fiddle) 1976 - Al Cohn and Dexter Gordon (Blue Mitchell, Sam Noto, Barry Harris, Sam Jones, Louis Hayes) record session for Xanadu (True Blue - Silver Blues)
  17. From Billboard.com today:
  18. I'll go the German way. The Basie Clef/Verve still lists at €149,25 at Amazon.fr
  19. Yes,these are Burrell compositions. Thanks for the clarification on the 38 mins. ← The other two are Kenny Burrell compositions indeed, but 'Freedom' is credited to Ben Tucker on my vinyl!
  20. Went to the Paris launch this evening and got my autographed copy. The book is huge. Had a quick look at it and now it's back in its package not to be opened until next week 'cause it's supposed to be my birthday present -_- Very nice gathering with Steve Potts playing solo right at the entrance of the store. I never do this but since it was a signing ceremony, I brought three favorite vinyl albums with Claxton covers (Sonny Rollins 'Way Out West', Art Pepper 'Intensity' and John Lewis/Bill Perkins 'Grand Encounter') to have Monsieur Claxton sign them. Which he did very obligingly! Claxton and everybody else seemed very happy with the gathering!
  21. A very talented Lady has passed away... Sad news!
  22. Claude, once a year the FNAC stores do a one-day protest of the VAT rate and sell many of their CDs at the 5.5 rate. The CDs are then something like ten percent less than the 'regular' price! It does make a difference.
  23. Curtis Counce 'Carl's Blues' (Contemporary mono)
  24. You most probably mean 'Le Petit Bleu de la Cote Ouest'. Magnifique book! Manchette is far from forgotten over here. There's quite a number of his books being currently reissued including that 'Cote Ouest' which has been illustrated by Jacques Tardi and came out a few weeks ago. Surprised that couw has not been raving about that Manchette/Tardi yet! http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/27316...08.LZZZZZZZ.jpg I'm on unfamiliar territory with your Gilles Binchois... Curiosity been aroused!
