    Funny Rat

You did not want to test the Brotzmann waters?? Your list looks good. Know you will provide CDRs when you get those, OK? Just kidding, Chuck
  2. Ready to endure anything, as long as it's not a lifetime listening to the damn song
  3. Very nice article (one more!) by Mike Zwerin in today's edition of the International Herald Tribune.
  4. I don't have it. I have no intention of purchasing any album that has 'A Man and a Woman' on it. Hate that song It's the title song of that 1966 sentimental French movie by Claude Lelouch. The film was a popular hit at the time but was not really good. It has aged badly. So has its music
  5. Interesting review from 'The New Yorker'. I have read somewhere that this was the first authentic biography of Django to be published. Probably in the USA but not over here where there has been quite a number of books on Reinhardt published in recent years. Not going back to the Charles Delauney book of memories of his friend Django that was came out shortly after the musician's death, French books on the subject have been published by critics like Patrick Williams (a specialist of gypsy culture), Noel Balen and Francois Billard, among others. They all provided new light on the man's career. Will check this one!
  6. Not sure if (and when) this is going to be sold thru stores. The man runs a very isolated and small business. He is obviously not prepared to handle numerous requests. If the reissue is not sold through large stores any time soon, I may help you getting this! Unless you really NEED that one bad and in a real hurry...
  7. yes, let's hope they will. no doubt you will run into a decently priced copy in Paris one day. That Francois Tusques 'Le Nouveau Jazz' finally went up to $710! Probably more than Tusques ever made in a single concert...
  8. That one was 'Alice' with Mia Farrow and William Hurt. Joe Mantegna was the musician.
  9. Glad to see 'Manhattan' listed several times. This is still my favorite Woody Allen film. Every time I see it, I fall in love with Mariel Hemingway all over again Too bad she never managed to make another appearance as attaching as this one. Woody Allen was filming scenes from 'Everyone Says I Love You' right around my corner several years ago. Watched the shooting one full evening! Enjoyable film too but not among his best.
  10. As far as I know, there is nothing new there. All these sides have appeared on various Billie Holiday anthologies, including ESP vinyls plus the Lady Day Box which came out on vinyl in Italy and on CDs in Japan (on Sound Hills).
  11. I like Assif Tsahar! A provocative musician who sometimes fall flat on his face but he is trying! And when he gets going, there's a lot to enjoy from him. Of those Hopscotch records, I have the Live at the Juan Miro Foundation set with Peter Kowald and Sonny Murray which was my introduction to Tsahar and 'Deals, Ideas and Ideals' with Kowald and Rashied Ali. Things fall very much into their place on that one! And Tsahar knows how to pick his drummers!
  12. Have talked to a number of musicians and journalists and have not been able to find anything on Bill Coleman's estate. The subject came up again today when I got in touch with the current owner of the Palm label who is reissuing the Bill Coleman 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot'. The reissue was posted on the Reissues forum: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=0entry261284 The man's research proved negative too!
  13. 'Bill Coleman - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot', one of those rare albums from the French label Palm is being reissued on CD by the current owner of Palm Records. Bill Coleman is accompanied by the Jef Gilson big band on this one. The new owner works out of a tiny village in the northern mountains of the island of Corsica. The publishing firm goes by the name of Cismonte & Pumonti. This one: http://www.corse.culture.gouv.fr/annuaire_...urs.htm#nucariu The man also edits books on Corsican culture. He does not speak english, does not have internet and seems pretty happy about it! The Bill Coleman CD sells for euros 17, including postage thru the EU. No idea how much he would charge outside the EU. And remember he does not speak any english! He recently reissued the Jef Gilson & Malagasy album 'Zao' and plans to reissue some more material from the Palm label (Byard Lancaster, Frank Lowe, Francois Tusques, David Ware, Khan Jamal and others recorded for the label). One at a time at at his own pace...
  14. One bad memory was when I checked the vinyl on a copy of George Russell's 'Stratusphunk' on Riverside and it slipped from my hands to hit a piece of furniture which should not have been where it was. A small piece of vinyl is now missing from the LP and I cannot play two tracks from the album
  15. Deus, looks excellent here (via Internet Explorer). Looks excellent too via Netscape Navigator!
  16. Since I'm not doing anything to help and just waiting in my corner to get the next answers, may I at least just extend a very deep thanks to those doing all the work Keep the next ones coming...
  17. Walt Dickerson 'Vibes in Motion' (AudioFidelity)
  18. Another vote for Roswell RUDD
  19. Benny Waters died in 1998. He was 96 by then. And spent many years in Paris where he was playing very often at the Cigale cafe in the Pigalle district. He indeed was a very nice man and a swinging musician. Can't recall an album that was a good representation of his musical talent but I have not heard them all...
  20. Cecil Payne is alive and well. And playing: http://www.gothamjazz.com/events/13984/
  21. Woody Allen makes careful selections of the music that plays on his films sountracks. And he likes a wide variety of jazz! Another great soundtrack was the one for 'Husbands and Wives'. Not my preferred Allen film but while watching it you could listen to Leo Reisman's 'What Is This Thing Called Love?' (with the trumpet of Bubbey Miley well featured), Wes Montgomery's 'West Coast Blues' and 'That Old Feeling' by Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan, and more...
  22. That's not the original pressing of the album! The original Impulse has the orange label. I have the mono orange copy of that one but have no plans to sell it!
  23. Serge Chaloff! His 'Body and Soul' is right up there next to Bean's...
  24. Wolff beat me to the Roaches! Please note that its Frederick Roach (not Freddie) on the cover of 'All That's Good'. I have the Kenny Cox and will post the details when I get home later today! Ed: oops! Bill Fehnor beat me to that one too!
