  1. Many, many thanks, Jim for taking the time to make the interview available to the Board! This is a great read. Nice to have RVG's 'I was there' version of the Miles-Monk recording session story.
  2. EKE, thanks for digging this up The Duke knew how to handle his musicians!

    Funny Rat

Hear! Hear! This one has been a favorite for quite a long time. I gave it a fresh hearing last weekend. Still stunned once more!
  4. From today's edition of The International Herald Tribune: Interesting article. Love the last paragraph on the trombone player taking a cellphone call in the middle of a performance! The guy must have been Out to Lunch!
  5. More from the same crew: Jimmy Rowles/Red Mitchell 'I'm Glad There Is You' (Contemporary). Strange thing happened between the releases of these two LPs recorded at the same 1985 sessions. The first album bears a 'FULL DIGITAL' sign on its front cover. The sign has disappeared from the second album. Very nice albums both!
  6. The Jimmy Rowles/Red Mitchell Trio (Contemporary) with Colin Bailey, and Stacy Rowles on trumpet or flugelhorn on three tracks.
  7. Joyeux anniversaire, Marcus Et plein de bonnes choses pour toi...
  8. Hoping you will have a great day
  9. From the San Francisco Chronicle today:
  10. Just checked these Answers. Judging from disc 1 I will have to check Marc Copland whose path I had never crossed. As for disc 2, there are a few surprises there. The Sonny Rollins track 2 with Hank Bennink. I had no idea the two had played together until I checked on other posters' findings after I posted my answers. Very interesting track. The track 3 'Straight No Chaser' is a stunner as far as the guitar player identification. I have forgotten about George Benson all these years but I don't remember him playing so close to Wes Montgomery in his jazz years. Great uppick and a joy to listen to! Track 4, I never would have thought of Byard Lancaster who I heard several times and most recently last Spring in Paris. He played better on the occasions I heard him. The least interesting track in my opinion! More thanks Tom. This was most entertaining and illuminating!
  11. I sincerely hope you do - and when you have survived mine, nothing will happen to you any time . You still got the discs? Yes, and played as honest as humanly possible. I started ;listening to them last week. I loved disc 2. Have had a hard time with disc 1, not really my cup of tea... Guesses are few so far but one was a pleasure. But I will have further listenings (mainly to disc 2)!
  12. Is there any way of posting the same PM to several members in one throw? So far, I prepare one PM for one member, then paste and copy to send to other members. There must be a simpler and faster way of doing this...
  13. The box was on sale at the Virgin Megastore on the Champs-Elysees today. Price? $115. The Megastore has (almost) always been a pretty expensive place...
  14. From AP (and other sources) Her filmography is quite impressive. She was in several masterpieces including 'Psycho', 'Touch of Evil' and 'The Naked Spur'.
  15. Off the beaten path: Roots by the Prestige All Stars (still available on OJC). This musicians' gathering - all stars all (from A like Adams, Pepper to W like Watkins, Doug) - get spiritual on material that includes 'Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child' and 'Down by the Riverside'. Featured players include Idrees Suliemann, Frank Rehak, Jimmy Cleveland, Bill Evans, Tommy Flanagan). Beautifully different playing from all concerned.
  16. Let's do it right away. Give me a fax number and you'll have it in minutes (five pages of interview plus cover)...
  17. Jim, copies ready now. BUT, I'm a person from the 20th Century having some hard time with the 21st Century technology It's either fax or airmail. Your choice...
  18. Don't know if he still makes appearances but would LOVE to attend a concert by Walt Dickerson!
  19. Well, if you can make good photocopies that'd be great; the copiers at my work aren't that great, so please go ahead. Will do and fax tomorrow as soon as Jim sends a fax number. Otherwise it will go airmail to the East Lansing adress.
  20. 'Dance With Death' is one of the best Hill albums from his BN days. One of his very organised and also readily accessible session. Tolliver and Farrell shine thoughout but the musician I love on that album is Billy Higgins who gives a unique impetus to the date.
  21. Hans, would have to copy this and fax (or mail) from the Stereophile issue; The DuNann article never made it to the Stereophile website. The article is 5 pages long. Can take care of this dayside without problems!
  22. If still needed, can also help you with that DuNann article.
  23. Much better - and much more BN - than the original LT one!
  24. Is he? Can you link me to any information? The Sam Rivers UK tour: http://www.cmntours.org.uk/tours/samrivers/index.html
