  1. Unless the CD has additional material that is not on the vinyl, I'll choose the vinyl...
  2. I see some of those Random Chance records around. This is their website: http://www.randomchancerecords.com/ Not sure how legitimate they are!
  3. Bought this yesterday but played it today: The DVD 'The World According to John Coltrane' which was released recently here by an outfit called Umbrella Entertainment. That's the 1990 portrait of Coltrane that was directed by Robert Palmer and Toby Byron. The one with interviews of Rashied Ali, Wayne Shorter, Jimmy Heath, Alice Coltrane,LaMonte Young, Roscoe Mitchell, Tommy Flanagan, etc. A shame they did not seek out Elvin Jones. What impressed me on this DVD was the amazing (well filmed and with good sound) sequence of the Coltrane Quintet with Dolphy and an uncredited Reggie Workman. Origin of the footage is not given but it obviously comes from the November 24, 1961 show taped by Sudwestfunk in Baden-Baden. The quintet plays 'My Favorite Things' and 'Impressions'. Just incredible the power of that music. Too bad they did not include the complete music from the show. Other little know footage on the DVD is the bad video of the Comblain la Tour (Belgium) appearance by the classic JC quartet on August 1, 1965 that was taped by Belgian TV (did not catch a proper credit on this either!).
  4. Yes, so I see (just checked AMG)!! Seems a real shame that Toshiba didn't hold off a little longer on releasing the JRVG (TOCJ-9222) and include it instead in the 9300+ run that offered extra cuts. Oh well. So basically then, the Kelly completist must have that 12" vinyl...or perish, oui? Another good reason to hang on that Toshiba vinyl
  5. Me bad. And very sad! Did a quick search and could not find anything on his passing away. But see now on AMG that he died February 15, 1993.
  6. So is the rest of the set. One of the most interesting Mosaic box!
  7. Used to have these when they came out. Did not keep them even if Paul Bley is a favorite with a considerable discography of remarkable albums. I would not rate these two among those. A much better album from the same era that should be reissued is the Limelight album 'Mr. Joy' with Gary Peacock and Billy Elgart. That one is remarkable!
  8. Have enjoyed the Toshiba 12'' vinyl (BNF71001) of this for quite a long time. It comes distorsion free (except on take 1 of 'Goodbye') even if the sound is far from perfect. Disc transfers are credited to Ron McMasters for this reissue. By the way, that 12incher album had 19 sides crammed on it.
  9. Already active in the '5Os and still contributing: Paul Bley Ornette Coleman Charlie Haden
  10. With the help of little Zora's smile...and the new server, the Site seems to have held splendidly
  11. Sal Mosca Dick Hyman Quincy Jones Phil Urso George Wallington
  12. Roland Kirk 'Volunteered Slavery' (Atlantic) Side 1 is just beautiful. Side 2 (the Newport 1968 tracks) is plain amazing!
  13. A copy of that 'ultra rare' has been (it may still be there) a copy for 6 or 7 euros lying around for weeks in one of the Paris stores... I see copies of this ultra rare item regularly!
  14. The Kid From Red Bank will be honored in his hometown.
  15. Billy Bauer Lee Konitz Terry Gibbs Jimmy Giuffre Buddy deFranco Tony Scott Bob Dorough Horace Parlan
  16. When the Organissimo Board is not functioning Arrgggghhhhh!!!!
  17. James Moody Arno Marsh Martial Solal Cecil Taylor
  18. Another one from the Diaspora. Joined here on Day 2 after stupidly waiting for another day just to make sure the BB was a thing from the past. I also checked in at a couple of other Boards but this one was THE right place from the start and it's been home since!
  19. I hope this acetate makes its way to Spain or Andorra (or some other place in Europe). In a couple of years, we can all check how good - or bad - that date really was
  20. Phil Woods was leading his European Rhythm Machine at the time of the Montreux festival album. A good record! Even better was the 'Phil Woods & His European Rhythm Machine' LP that was published on the Pierre Cardin label. The unit had Gordon Beck, Henri Texier and Daniel Humair by then. This was also issued on Inner City vinyl. Not sure it came out on CD but definitely worth seeking. The disc has excellent versions of 'Chromatic Banana' and 'The Day When The World...'.
  21. I bring ja number of azz CDs when driving away from home. But I also like to listen to the local radios. When in Spain, I tune in to Radio Classica, an excellent allclassic national radio. Or try to catch flamenco singers ans musicians...
  22. Got my shipment today! Will listen this weekend. Many thanks, Dan!
  23. Sonny Stitt 'NOW' (Impulse) with Hank Jones, Al Lucas and Osie Johnson.
  24. I bought the FS RCA reissue of Hal McKusick 'Jazz Workshop' - one of my Treasure Island album - and was terribly disappointed with the sound. Very flat. It does not compare with the sound on the original LP, or the French RCA LP reissue of years ago.
