  1. Sid Gribbetz of WKCR has published a Freddie Redd discography: https://jazzdiscography.com/freddie-redd-discography/
  2. Man I have just been the worst on this month's BFT. No listening time, and I'm the one who posted about how a shorter comp should mean fewer excuses for not participating. Need about a dozen of these:
  3. I don't know when any "exclusive" contract ever existed; Walgreens is also distributing, I think CVS and Winn Dixie too. I've been watching Walgreens website but they keep showing "no vaccines within 20 miles of your zip code for the next four days" or some such shit. Interesting to watch the end of today's open registration for Publix. Seems as though NE FL (Jacksonville basically) and Leon County (capitol city Tallahassee) in the panhandle were the laggards for signing up. How come? Especially Jax, Duval county is quite large I can't imagine why they didn't have similar demand as south Florida or the Tampa metro area. Unless they actually just got more of it, so while other counties got booked, Duval and a couple of other counties in the NE still had availability? I am pretty much reconciled to the fact that I won't be jabbed before the end of April ... part of which I admit is the fact that I am not availing myself of every possible option anywhere. I can't take time off work for lengthy car rides and I am not interested in driving to the football stadium for an all-day wait. I continue to wear the mask and hardly venture out, so ... whatever.
  4. Of course, eventually I outran the surplus of people trying to book, but although Hillsborough county appears to still have slots, none at any of the locations I try. This is because Publix' system is incompetently designed, with no indication of whether a location even has slots until you select it. They can't eliminate locations, you have to search for that needle in the haystack. That is, after the haystack has blown away and your needle becomes a "chosen" one. For no available slots.
  5. And now I am just f-ing infuriated. Last Friday, I am not allowed to register for a shot on a day when my age group would be eligible. Today, I find out that everybody can register in Florida, even though they won't take everybody until April 5. So when Publix opens the floodgates at 7 am, what are the chances their server crashes/freezes from everybody trying to get in? 55 and obese? Too damn bad.
  6. I had no idea that Archer's mom was played by the actress who played the psycho on Misty. Sad news. RIP.
  7. Funny I think I may have passed on the Smith Standards, due to the lack of, say Stanley T.? Revoke my BN card, I guess.
  8. Oh that's right I think Michael got the idea of the standard series from the Sonny Clark and Grant Japan issues? So if there can't be prior LPs involved than the Lee and the Sounds are the only ones that fit the OPs (frankly non-sensical, but it's been fun to look things up while I should be working) question.
  9. Oh good call. That adds the Three Sounds "standards" as well. What was the third one? I could swear there was one wasn't there?
  10. Hey you might win the prize if that one had an LP and CD at the same time. These others all went with LP first and CD two years or more later.
  11. I don't think so, if he is only interested in non-Conn, CD only debut of unissued sessions. If that is the definition, even Babe's Blues doesn't make it, it actually came out in 1986 in France and the US on LP. All of these vault discoveries that are pre-conn and no 70s LT or Brown series material - the three Mobleys, the Morgan, the Grant, the Three Sounds - they all had LP releases prior to CD. And wasn't Six Views of the Blues a Conn?
  12. I thought Rooster's point of interest was non-Conn releases only? So most of the images here fail on that point. Three Mobleys that were otherwise "new" - Faraway Lands, Another Workout, and Straight No Chaser - all had US LP releases prior to CD by 1989.
  13. There were probably dozens unless I am mis-understanding your question. Off the top of my head, CD releases pre-Conn: Lee Morgan Tom Cat Hank Mobley Far Away Lands, Straight No Filter Jackie McLean Tippin The Scales (Lucky me, I became a mad collector around early 1988 as these were easy to find as they appeared, even pre-internet )
  14. Chuck's story reminds me of the early Seinfeld episode, where Jerry, George and Elaine are at a party out in the suburbs and George gets hit on by a co-worker and Jerry and Elaine end up stranded. Jerry gets summarily dismissed by another party goer with "yeah I think I saw you once. You talk about a lot of every-day things." (turns away) Larry's summary is spot-on, and if Chinen had met Alfred, I suspect that's all he could have said to him. Whatever, Chinen brings nothing to the table as a writer or critic/thinker as far as I am concerned.
  15. I will probably just watch Amazon for updates, plenty of time and while I pay for Prime I don't really order so much that its a "great deal," every month, probably just break even on saved shipping in your average non-holiday/birthday month.
  16. Google has a ton of retailers showing the June release date from Cellar Live/Reel to Real.
  17. WOH! I just looked though and the Amazon page I found says it was available last week and now unknown when it will be? I am sure that will be rectified and this is definitely a pre-order title for me - more Carmell Jones, and Land presumably pre-Trane influence. Too much Trane-Intensity in his style for me (I know, horrors!). (Although I just listened to some samples of a Savant release that is almost all standards and didn't sound too bad).
  18. Is there a way to get this with the saxophone edited out? I know I'm in the minority here but I am happy to hear the rest of the band (I can't imagine Mabes going too far "out") but Garnett is just not my cuppa. I also have to say that price point earns a . OTOH if this means Reel to Real is planning two Left Bank releases per year TFN, I'll be happy.
  19. Yeah but when you can hear it on the radio, see it on TV, and get it on your phone, just approve the damn appointment. This is Florida, not New York, where they threatened $10,000 fines for administering dosages to ineligible people.
  20. I am not a fan but this is not about the governor. He announced the change, effective Monday, when I had a booked appointment. Publix isn't following the plot and they are on my shit list.
  21. Now I'm pissed. Got a call from Publix to verify appointment. Told I am not eligible as far as they are concerned because the state website isn't caught up and still says 60 years old or proof of co-morbidity, even though the Governor made the announcement and it is all over the news. So now I have to wait for the website to update and I suspect (being a pessimist by nature) that getting an appointment won't be nearly so easy, and will continue that way for weeks to come.
  22. They are bred specifically to perpetuate the "foundational Appaloosa" line. Appaloosa's have been cross-bred for so long that there is a movement to preserve the breed thru breeding of verified lineages. So the adults, two males (one intact, one gelded), two mares, (one 23 and officially retired), and a four year old who is the daughter of the 23 year old and will be ready to breed in another year, are all registered with the authorities that make these distinctions of "foundation Appaloosa". Beyond that they are bred for recreational type use - the very first baby went to a facility on the east coast of Florida that combines "senior living" with horse therapy. She basically gets loved on all the time. Some are getting trained as show animals but there are so many kinds of competitive showing. I think one is being trained for "shadow" work. Basically they learn to follow their trainers steps without being ridden. A big part of the success in terms of good-looking and acting babies is that the stallion is almost all white - meaning that he can throw off babies with lots of color to almost no color at all, like him. The same mother has had with him an all-white mare but also an extreme leopard color colt. Also, this stallion is one of the most mellow intact horses you'll ever meet, and his sons have been especially mellow too. Also he is under-sized due to abuse suffered when he was younger, but his lineage must have some big horses because he keeps making big babies.
