Most enjoyable and recommended piano trio recordings from Storyville, by folks not afforded too many opportunities to lead record dates: Hugh Lawson and Richard Wyands. Two disc set is about $16 on Amazon right now, and there are several unissued tracks/alternates.

What's this about eBay Payments System/Fees?
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous Music
My ebay purchases have been buy-it-now for probably six months or more, (with the occasional "best offer" stab which doesn't seem to work as often as on discogs, maybe these fees are part of that?) so on that level it might as well be discogs. -
So I was reading something on one of the 78 groups I peruse on FB - eBay has dropped Paypal as the required payment processor? And massively upped their fees or something? Anyone still selling on ebay? Anyone buying? Once I stopped ever selling I didn't mind so much the self-dealing mandating Paypal as the payment system. But I am thinking I am never going to put things on ebay for sale ever again. Thoughts?

No I hear he was a pretty bad influence on his kids for a while there back in the day. And my god, the language they picked up!

Not even original tapes for remastering? Mastered from hi-res files of the original analog masters by Malcolm Addey, Malcolm Addey Studio, NYC 24 bit technology was utilized at all stages of the production of this Mosaic release.

I almost worked for a company selling auto warranties. They actually told me that one of the principals had invented a way to spoof their outgoing phone calls, so that the do-not-call registry didn't have to be obeyed, and their phone center was rockin'. I was there one night to observe, didn't like what I saw and didn't go back. Less than a week later I saw in the paper that the feds had conducted a raid (during what would have been my evening shift) and arrested everybody and shut the place down. I guess my instincts were right. I thought it was hysterical that they would brag about being able to ignore the do-not-call registry but the Feds figured them out - if you're that brazen.

Just got this and it's among his best, for sure. Only two originals, rest are covers, but the focus is very much on his guitar and vocals, with only a second guitarist + rhythm. I've heard some Delmarks with horns but this keeps it nice and clean and all Byther Smith. I wonder if there's a CD of originals, with this type of backing. That would be awesome but this is simply very very very good.

MLB 2021: it’s baseball season!
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Hmm ... too bad I don't engage in any TV commentary in the mornings, just see a little bit of local news post-coffee & Internet and before the horses get moved so Sue can work on stalls. -

I think this Sox fan (the other color) has to enjoy this start while he can. Second best record in the league, second best run differential. There are elements of the roster to watch - Dalbec has a sweet stroke and serious power, Tanner Houk looks for real though he isn't even up with the team yet, there's a Japanese middle-reliever who has an electric fastball, JD Martinez seems to be back, and of course there is Ottavino and a Yankee minor league starter, stolen thru the Rule V draft, who looks good so far ... but its a marathon not a sprint and the real talent will prove itself in this division. -

Did you think that was the right call at first base. None of the angles were very good and it looked to me that the 1B's foot/leg didn't stop moving - indicating contact with the base - before the runners hand arrived. I think the upholding of the call might have been based mostly on getting the out call in real time. Not enough video evidence to overturn, but if the call was safe, they would have upheld that too. -
"most" is a pretty good weasel word too.

What recording was it, Bertrand? He can be right, and he can be wrong. Transition didn't have great distribution, right? But finding an original Transition release maybe really hard but it doesn't mean those Donald Byrd records are bad. OTOH I used a recording by Jimmy Colvin on my last BFT, the whole record is awesome, IMHO, and probably about as rare as hen's teeth. So its one of those "rare" records that didn't deserve it's fate in the marketplace? In the end its about expectations, and in many cases, "crazy collector" syndrome, too.

I felt very fortunate when I stumbled across this issue of that LP with another: https://www.discogs.com/Bobby-Timmons-The-Soul-Man-Soul-Food/release/9180956 Although, I think I once had a copy of the original vinyl, or something close to original? I know I was happy to get the two-on-one CD, and at a normal used CD price. This was pre-internet (for me).

But how often has this ever occurred? I've hardly ever had a redbook CD not played, and when it fails its not extractable either. I think that was 1-2 times ever, if that. Only slightly more common is the case of a CDR that won't play, but will extract and can be re-burned.
