  1. Ok, been thinking about a need to go back into the collection, so much music not heard for so long. So I thought, what about turning over the listening choice to the Big O? Real simple - name an artist or artist/recording and if I have it, it comes out of the binders or jewel case and goes next in the stack and I'll post in response. And if anyone else is looking to give up a little control, just join in and ask for a request. The floor is always open. For me, its blues and jazz (swing to bop/hard bop but not much beyond, as I imagine many of you know thru all of the years of posting). You say it, I'll play it (if I got it).
  2. Barbara Dane, Livin' With The Blues (Dot) Don't think its seen legit CD reissue, but band includes Hines, Plas Johnson, and Benny Carter exclusively on trumpet. Oh! Oh! OH OH! </Horschack> Hank Marr Sounds from the Marr-Ket Place (King) W. Blood Ulmer on guitar
  3. Don't know that one but I've looked at the Discovery label on discogs many times, wondering what joys the catalog might hold. I've only a few but many look intriguing, and they don't seem terribly overpriced.
  4. Inspired by a look back at Workshop Jazz releases and in opposition to this oldie but goodie thread: What obscurity have you heard that you were knocked out by and wish was much, much better known. Number one for all-time for me is Right Side of Lefty Edwards (Workshop Jazz). Lovely sax tone, wonderful playing and an inspired performance of "Fly Me to the Moon" as a ballad. And one brought to my attention on the "Private Press Recordings" thread, Ben Webster, In Hot House w.Tete Montoliu What about you? I need some new targets on discogs and ebay.
  5. Weird only because the "church" requires members to disassociate from "apostates" (i.e., anyone who escapes their clutches); therefore if Chick required Clarke to 'rejoin' then it was the church telling Chick what he had to do.
  6. The Preacher.
  7. Why not, its a criminal enterprise and he's a proud "parishioner".
  8. Chitlins Con Carne
  9. And how do you feel about Leah Ramini and WTF is "scientology" anyway? (I've been watching her A&E program, continuously infuriated that this "religion" is allowed tax exempt status and that Miscavige, a socio/psychopath isn't in prison, finding out what happens to small men like him.)
  10. Well if DJs use them that sounds like more of a pop earworm than a jazz one but whatever fits the topic.
  11. OK we all know pop "hooks" that get stuck in our heads. Some may be pleasurable, some probably invoke feelings of disgust and maybe, a touch of nausea too. But what about jazz themes you can't get out of your head? What tunes stay with you because those themes are just so damn irresistible? For me it is "Highest Mountain", bar none. Been "hearing" it for the last day or so in fact. So let's hear yours. Maybe it will help me get that damn tune to stop.
  12. PM incoming.
  13. That was the greatest punchline ever.
  14. Unfortunately some men gonna be lazy, and entitled and pathological and predatory. Especially but not limited to Show Business. If things are really changing, there are so many other shoes dropping that you'll think the Payless warehouse was hit by the Big One.
  15. While its still up ... The Times spiked an article in 2004. The writer claims that Weinstein and various actors exerted influence to see to it. Now they are saying the article wasn't much to begin with, and 13 years later they got all the important stuff on the record, but what else are they going to say? The author of the piece has a very different recollection. I will continue to believe that Weinstein's politics gave him a pass for far too long. It's been described as the worst kept secret in Hollywood. But he supported the right causes and candidates so ... It's possible that part of this coming out now is a result of Trump's own statements, acts, and/or accusations against him, and Ailes and the other Fox a-hole getting shit-canned. There is less and less tolerance for it and that's to be applauded.
  16. We're getting deep into politics here but the point is, negative reporting on someone so closely associated with a President Hillary would be seen as an attack on Hillary, and therefore, totally unacceptable to the mainstream media. Or does no one else see that Weinstein and Bill share a certain "passion"? (At least Bill wasted his seed on the dress, not into a potted plant.) I think the lurking issue is the decline of print journalism. When media mattered, no one was going to care about Weinstein's horrid acts because of his power. BTW, does anyone doubt that Weinstein is the one who raped Rose McGowan? She's said she was raped by a major studio exec; She took $100,000 hush money; and now she's all over twitter on this story. And Dmitry this is not producer bedding starlets. For way too many, its forcible rape, replete with efforts to destroy those who didn't submit.
  17. I am interested to hear opinions too; this one came to my attention in the recommended listening section of the Stan Levey biography discussed elsewhere.
  18. The "ace" still sucks, can't keep the ball in the park, and that fucking "closer" is a joke. Seriously its completely random whether that ass-hat can throw strikes on a given day. Throw strikes: dominant. Don't throw strikes: A fucking joke.
  19. Is a rainout likely in Boston or NY? Accuweather has a slider/animation (kinda cool!) and they have the rain chance very high but also very drizzly, nothing unplayable. I bet both games get in. Sox will be done with Rick "Gopher Ball" Porcello going against a team that is so homer-happy.
  20. Or the Picadily tapes! I've heard some are just waiting for liners/artwork but no idea what they may be.
  21. It seems to me that Uptown has usually had releases timed for the holiday market, more or less. So does anyone have any advance word on what may be coming next? I've been checking City Hall Records as I believe they've been their distributor but nothing is showing. The suspense is killing me.
  22. There's a new copy on eBay for $200 with a Make Offer option. I offered $40, he presumed I was willing to meet in the middle and countered at $160. I told him he can take my $50 final offer or wait for a sucker to pay his price. One is supposedly born every minute but this reminded me of the asshats on Amazon trying to get 4 figures for OOP CDs. (He rejected my offer. C'est la vie.)
