Please Help Me Go Deeper Into The Collection

Thanks but not in the stacks. I was hoping pre-bop Blue Note artists would get covered with an Ike Quebec recommendation. -

Well I haven't forgotten this but most of this week has been spent with my own selection of piano trios. That's going to wrap up tomorrow and I thought of a great category for recommendations guaranteed to go deeper into the collection: Non-Blue Note dates led by Blue Note artists (leaders, that is) -
Same as it ever was: http://thomkeith.net/index.php/blindfold-tests/

Obscure Albums You've Heard and Think Everyone Else Should

I've been burned a couple of times so, since 99% of my buying is online, I'm hesitant with sealed vinyl. -

Dodgers definitely in trouble with Verlander going but I won't count them out yet. I saw the clips of Dubya's two World Series first pitches. He threw a nice strike in 2001 but that was the cutter, this time he fired in the four seamer. Not sad! Impressive!! -

Don't you think a sealed copy would probably be warped beyond all playability? I've learned to stay away from sealed copies unless they are dirt cheap especially since many dealers won't warrant the condition, being sealed and all. -

I didn't watch, saw highlights obviously an amazing game but from what I saw it had big offense but 1975 Game 6 had huge defensive highlights as well - Dewey Evans catch and throw, George Foster gunning down the runner at the plate who heard "Go Go Go" instead of "No No No" Maybe there were standout defensive plays too but I haven't seen them and the biggest opportunity was botched by the LF who couldn't get it home on the fly from short left field? WTF? At least there could have been on the play at the plate if he didn't show off his noodle arm. -

I thought about this when Larry posted about Norman Simmons' Midnight Creeper recording: How is it that so many different composers went with that title? I've got: Teddy Edwards (excellent Muse recording BTW); Lou Donaldson; Norman Simmons; AMG tells me that Al Grey wrote one too, though I don't know for certain its a different tune than each of the others. There's also recordings by James Cotton and Luther Allison though I have no idea if they are really the LD tune or what. Are there any other examples of so many tunes by the same name in the same genre?

So that makes me wonder if this comp of tracks by various saxophonists is all rare/uncommon stuff.
-
Well its not a commercial outfit and seems dedicated to jazz fans that puts out rare (?) material. So I went with fan club label.

Thanks everybody. Here's another: Battle of Tenor Saxes "The Big Sound vs "The Cool School: (IAJRC) https://www.discogs.com/Coleman-Hawkins-Ben-Webster-Gene-Ammons-Ike-Quebec-Paul-Gonsalves-Illinois-Jacquet-Lester-Young-Dext/release/9844058 Makes me wonder about other releases by this fan club label but this is the first one to stand out.

Maybe he high-tailed it back after the bad publicity. What I read said was that he got permission from the team to start his vacation. Didn't seemed based on a "Hey I don't think I've seen Gonzalez in the dugout, so I'm gonna stir up some shit and invent the rest". -
Have my eye on some discogs/ebay items, prices are all reasonable or downright cheap but curious how folks view: Richard "Groove" Holmes, Swedish Lullaby (Sison Music) https://www.discogs.com/Richard-Groove-Holmes-Swedish-Lullaby/release/5917788 Newport Jazz Festival Tribute to Charlie Parker (RCA Victor) https://www.discogs.com/Newport-Parker-Tribute-All-Stars-Tribute-To-Charlie-Parker-From-The-Newport-Jazz-Festival/release/2808152 Sphere, On Tour (Red) https://www.discogs.com/Sphere-Sphere-On-Tour/release/5090212 Dodo Mamarosa, PIano Man (Phoenix Jazz) https://www.discogs.com/Dodo-Marmarosa-Piano-Man/release/3857029 Clifford Jordan, Repetition (Soul Note) https://www.discogs.com/Clifford-Jordan-Quartet-Repetition/release/7021390 As always thanks in advance!

How about Adrian Gonzalez, vacationing in Europe while his "mates" try to win a World Series? WTF is THAT? Whatever happened to supporting your teammates? What about experiencing a World Series, even if you can't participate? He's never sniffed a World Series in his life and he bailed on the team before the playoffs? I suspected he was an asshole when he was with the Red Sox and this confirms it. And the Dodgers are on the hook for another year at $22mil or so. -
Weren't alternates included on the Time CD reissue (I am guessing mine was bought early 90s)? Or are all the alternates "new"?

One is never sure with that haphazard Vanguard reissue program if its the same music, but I have pulled out Nice Work and slotted it after Ruby Braff. Thanks Bill. Would not have spontaneously thought about this one. -

Thanks. Probably should have been clearer that I was using "small group swing" as "swing soloist(s) + rhythm as opposed to "bop soloist(s) + rhythm. Like, say, my list above ... -

Harvey Weinstein story in New Yorker...truly shocking
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Writer/Director James Toback is as bad as Weinstein. You may even have a stronger urge to shower after reading this than after reading about Weinstein: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-mn-james-toback-sexual-harassment-allegations-20171018-story.html -
