  1. An injection of what, pray tell. Like I said, she has no motive but to screw Bonds. Zero credibility. A she said he said nothing of a case. What part of "only my doctor has ever given me an injection" don't you understand? No one has to prove that steroids were in the syringe - she has testified to witnessing the injection given by Greg Anderson to Barry Bonds. Greg Anderson is NOT a doctor. The prosecution has proven that count of perjury. And you obviously pay no attention to this trial in the first place. This testimony was by his "personal shopper" not his mistress or business partner. She cried on the stand from beginning to end because she did not want to testify at all. Her brother, the former business partner, told the feds that she had witnessed Anderson inject Bonds and because unlike the scumbag trainer, she takes her obligation as a citizen seriously, she testified to what she witnessed. The defense did nothing to impeach her credibility and I suspect that her being so upset on the stand will go a long way toward confirming her account for the jury.
  2. I'm glad I won't be able to watch opening day against the Rangers - CJ Wilson is so tough against lefties (.400 OPS against!), and Francona is only sitting JD Drew instead of most of his lefties, just because its opening day. As some Globe writer pointed out, if this were a July series, McDonald would play for Ellsbury, Lowrie would play for Gonzalez, and Varitek would DH for Ortiz, in addition to Cameron playing instead of Drew. That's three guys in the lineup Wilson will probably make mincemeat out of. I don't need to see that happen live, even if I will follow the game at my desk. Best chance we have is if Lester decides to forget that its April and pitches like he can, and if Wilson is off his game a bit.
  3. RRK at Fillmore East 1971 I'm sure that will be of interest to some people.
  4. Logical "proof" that he took something illegal and knew it: Greg Anderson is sitting in jail refusing to testify. If Bonds was innocent (despite the overwhelming circumstantial evidence) of the charges of lying to the Grand Jury about taking steroids, then Anderson would have no reason to avoid the trial. He'd be able to waltz right in, say he never injected Bonds with anything, or at the very least never told Bonds what he was injecting into him. That despite all the other ballplayers flocking to Anderson to get similar injections, knowing what it had done for Bonds, and all of them knowing they were asking for illegal substances. Since Anderson is refusing to testify, he obviously has information that would hurt Bonds, and doesn't want to share it. Otherwise he'd be there at the trial. He probably has a golden handshake from Bonds and is waiting and for a big payday once everything is finally over. That's his incentive. This of course is it in a nutshell. If Anderson testifies and does so falsely, he knows the government will destroy him. If Anderson testified truthfully, not only would the doping calendar come in, but he would provide the chain of custody testimony needed to connect Bonds' urine sample to the BALCO tests that were positive for steroids. Personally I think there should be criminal charges over and above 'contempt of court' for anyone who refuses to testify in a criminal matter when they are not the defendant. Of course defendants have a right to remain silent. But citizens have an obligation to testify truthfully to what they witness, particularly under grants of immunity from prosecution. Anderson should be prosecuted for obstruction of justice for his refusal to participate in this trial.
  5. Wrong! As Aggie states, she witnessed an injection by Anderson of Bonds. One of the few unequivocal statements Bonds made to the grand jury was that only his doctor gave him injections. Right there is your perjury conviction.
  6. Clearly there is a value to this kind of music storage - no worries about hard drive or external drive failures - but I'd want to know about streaming rates. If you encode and MP3 @ 320, do you get it streamed back to you at 320? The big issue for me is that I don't listen on the computer very often, only when I pull out a few CDs to listen to on a weekend morning while I read the paper/surf/drink coffee. So cloud listening doesn't do much for me.
  7. AL East: Red Sox AL Central: White Sox AL West: Rangers WC: Yankees NL East: Phillies NL Central: Cubs (hope springs eternal!) NL West: Giants WC: Braves Red Sox over Phillies in seven
  8. Today's the blessed day, so its time for a new thread! Put me in, coach!
  9. Why? I thought I did a damn good job myself.
  10. Is it any better for me that they actually pick the Sox to win 100 games and the World Series? Forget the cover jinx, when is the last time they accurately picked the World Series champion in March? And its only getting more treacherous when practically every writer at the NBC Sports baseball blog has the Sox beating the Yankees in the ALCS, and only a tiny minority not picking them to win the Series, too. I'm afraid to look much closer at any other media outlet. I don't think I can deal with the pressure of these kind of expectations.
  11. No need to use the past tense. There are many ways around it, such as entry thru search engines (Google Advanced Search for instance) and with tabbed browsers it's not that inconvenient. The DMCA prevents me from suggesting this sort of behavior or going into more detail, but there are lots of helpful tips online about reading the NY Times that don't involve buying a Ford. I didn't mention "buying a Ford" and their largesse at least doesn't involve convoluted methods of finding articles of interest. I'd rather stick with "right click - open in new tab" as long as I can.
  12. Anyone read the Shatner profile in the New York Times magazine last year? Very amusing and evocative of the whole Shatner persona.
  13. Movies I'd wish they'd make? Anything that doesn't involve a goddamn "superhero". </crotchety grouch who hasn't gone to a theater since the remake of Omega Man>
  14. I'd be more concerned about Utley saying that one of his goals is to play before the All-Star break.
  15. I didn't know if there was a rule, I thought it was common courtesy though to try to keep discussions of a specific topic in a single place. BTW it always amazes me when an old topic is suddenly brought back from the archives with some new comment. Do people have great memories for old topics or are they searching for appropriate topics to append their new comment?
  16. We already have Greg Anderson's taped voice talking about moving the injection sites around Bonds' body. One of the perjury charges is that only his doctor has ever given him injections. So, right there is strong evidence that he committed perjury - and there are going to be other witnesses talking about injections by Anderson. There will also be testimony by many other ballplayers who were also clients of BALCO and Greg Anderson. They are expected to talk in great detail about what Anderson told them about "the cream" and "the clear", that they were designer steroids, etc etc. The clear implication for the jury will be that Anderson was equally forthright with his childhood friend, Bonds. The lack of testimony from Anderson may be equally as damaging to Bonds as it has already been to the prosecution. If Anderson could state under oath that he never told Bonds what he was giving him, why didn't the defense put him on the stand? The jury isn't supposed to draw any conclusions from Anderson's absence, but really, how can anyone think that they won't? Its human nature.
  17. Get your cable company to add Ovation to your package. They've been running the movie pretty regularly.
  18. Nice to hear from you, Alan, and good to know that you've passed through some dark times and found some light on the other side.
  19. Victor is a true music lover, not an object fetishist. Value to him is located purely within the sounds that give him pleasure.
  20. As long as there are no personal attacks and name-calling... heaven forbid we get an actual verdict!
  21. Is it possible now to reopen the steroid debate as it concerns the long-delayed but finally upon us Barry Bonds perjury trial? So far we've heard from Bonds' former friend and business partner who stated that out of concern for Bonds' health he tried to get him to stop taking steroids and in particular, since his father didn't believe he was taking PEDs, secretly recorded a conversation with the infamous trainer. That tape was admitted into evidence by the judge even though Anderson has again refused to testify, so the jury did hear Anderson speak of giving Bonds "undetectable" steroids and how he varied the location of the shots. He also testified that Bonds directed him to research the effects of Winstrol, which certainly demonstrates an interest in steroids at the time of the conversation. According to the Times this former friend held up against a withering cross-examination about his business dealings with Barry, but you never know how a jury views what the defense asserts about the relationship, regardless of denials from the witness. Can't wait to see what else they have to establish that Bonds knew he was using and therefore committed perjury when asked before the Grand Jury.
  22. Looks like a place to while away a lot of hours - thanks!
  23. I got this for Christmas but my reading stack is long and my time to read short. But I plan to start it after I finish the current tome I am working on. Glad it was a gift and didn't spend too many ducats. Sorry, I was channeling hardbop there for a minute.
