What I woke up to this morning...

Yeah, NYC got a lot more snow than predicted. I forget what you said in the past, Chris. Is that looking down Central Park West? -

I'll be the first to say I'm not thrilled with Renteria being unloaded, even if the prospect they got is one of the best in baseball ... but in the wake of Miguel Tejada announcing to the AP that he wants out of Baltimore makes me start praying that the Sox actually do unload Manny, even straight up, for Tejada. If there's anyone that can come close to filling Manny's shoes its a guy who had 150 RBIs in 2004. The money owed is similar, and while an inter-division trade is always tough to do, Manny on the O's looks to be a lot like Sosa in his prime on the Cubs: great slugger, terrible team. And since the trade partners like the Angels and Mets aren't cooperating on Manny, this would keep us from having to find out just how unhappy and disruptive Manny may be if he's still in Boston in April. And one more thing: Tejada and Ortiz are buddies, and with the team being overhauled, having Tejada around could help keep Big Papi on board when his contract is up. Whoever is in charge on Yawkey Way, MAKE THE TRADE!! -

I'd get One Flight Up myself.

Uh, Wynton Kelly on The Jumpin Blues? I'm sorry Jim, but I'm going to have to revoke your status as a true-blue Dex-aholic. Hey, hey, HEY now, I didn't miss that question! I... missed the easier one (#7). I'm just saying the Wynton Kelly question was strangely presented: "6) What pianist joined Gordon in recording this 1970’s straight-ahead bebop album, one of the last before the pianist’s death." "This" straight-ahead bebop ( ) album" ??? WHAT straight ahead bebop album? You see what I'm sayin'? Kelly was the only possible choice, so I got it right, but... dumb question (who put this shit together, anyway?) Just bustin your chops, Jim!

Brutal commentary about Grady Little's managerial skills. Read it and weep, Dodger fans. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5148452 -
Apparently I should have been born in the 80s. Daniel was 19th in the 60s but 7th in the 80s.

Answer my question.

Thanks, Harold.

Seriously? What was your connection to the folks at Steeplechase that they were soliciting suggestions for the title? I set up and operated the US offices of SteepleChase around 1980. Welcome to the world of the jazz record biz. OK. But Something Different was recorded/released in 1975. I guess it took a while before you got the go ahead to set up the US office. It was not released in 1975. Where the farque do you get this info? It, like other SCS Dexter masters were held back to cash in on the Columbia promotions. Duh! http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&t...10:htk9ikkhbb19 Let me ask you this: AMG lists More than You Know Stable Mable Swiss Nights Vol 1-3 Something Different Bouncin' With Dex as recorded in 1975. Plus Strings and Things Lullabuy for a Monster Biting the Apple as 1976 recordings. Did any] of them come out in those years? How exactly did Steeplechase handle Dexter switching labels? Was it analagous to Miles Davis and Prestige before the switchover to Columbia? Or did they put out one or two LPs in '75-'76, then scour the archives for releasable sessions after Homecoming?

Stumbled across a Crown LP, Ray Charles Meets Jimmy Witherspoon and went, HUH? Anyone familiar with this one? How the heck did Ray Charles record with 'Spoon for Crown? And one more stupid question: should I get it?

I was thinking how I should order these before burning; thanks a lot for the suggestion, Al. We have a winner! -

Thanks Jim, and the same to you, Allison and little ol' Pumpkin Pie. Oh yeah, and thanks to Randy and Joe. I'm sure these nearly 40 minutes of Christmas tunes will get plenty of spins. -
I franly think the whole point is to limit 7/4s string of posts, so I support any software that will take those strings of non-sequitors and combine them into a single post. Seriously, I don't see what the big deal is. If you truly have a NEW thought, post it in a few minutes. Y'know, get some work done in the meantime, then come back and post. Otherwise, if you really have to make a separate post for "emphasis", use the many text editing functions to emphasize your point. Otherwise, its all just post-padding, afaic, so I vote to keep it.

Sports: 2005 NCAA Football

I was thinking the same thing, Paul. For once the BCS will have it right, no arguments, and those two teams look pretty similar and well-matched. Meantime, on a day of huge blow-outs and embarassments, who'da thunk that my Seminoles would come out on top of #5 VA Tech? So somehow, in a season worse than anything He-Who-Cannot-Be-Named produced, they managed to bookend wins over top 10 opponents and a BCS bowl bid. (OK, "He who must not be named" is probably a bit obscure. Dude's name was CHRIS RIX and he single handedly brought embarrasment to the program over four long years. I have no explanation of how they continued to stumble in his absence, except that maybe his losing ways infected the team, like a virus, and continues to affect them in his absence.) -

They didn't dig deep for Beckett. Ramirez was their top position prospect but he didn't have a spot with the club once they signed Renteria and failed to move Ramirez to a position like centerfield. Anabel Sanchez is at best the number 4 pitcher in the system, behind Jon Lester, Papelbon, and Hansen. The fact that they got Beckett, Lowell and Mota and kept the top three pitching prospects was an extraordinary deal. The fact is, the Sox may accept a couple of prospects but to part with Manny and not leave a gargantuan whole in the lineup, they have to insist on established major league talent. What I'd love to see happen is for Minaya to make the best deal he can, and then we'll know the truth about how much, and for what reasons, Manny wants out. Cuz Manny in New York means at least as much hassle and lack of privacy as he bitches about in Boston. My guess is Manny invokes his 10/5 rights and kills the deal. -

Well the Yanks have signed Farnsworth: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2245182 But at best, they've replaced Flash when they need to do a lot more, and in all likelihood, its a significant drop-off.
