Only the dates led by Grant Green get any regular play. So, clearly, I am the atypical Blue Note fan to be offering opinions on Young's work!
-
Got it years ago as a burn from the Mosaic from a certain someone here. Huge disappointment, and that evaluation has never changed since. Not my cup of tea. Not even remotely.

Well, you want to start well, and winng after giving up four runs early definitely gives the Marlins a boost, but the Cubbies still have Prior and Wood going on a full compliment of rest, so I still like their chances.

Apparently he's giddy from all the recall excitement.

Now that the Sox have a date with the Yanks Wednesday night, I've got a decision to make: About two months ago, I purchased tickets to see Kevin Mahogany for tomorrow night. In fact, I got tickets for me and the wife, and it turned out that she's had to work that night so I've already lost the money on her ticket. I'd definitely say I am leaning toward baseball, partially because Mahogany's still a young guy, its not like I'd be blowing off an aging legend who might not come back around again. ************ Hey Chuck, your dream survived the first round of the play-offs. What will you actually do if the Sox and Cubs actually make it through?

(We really need a smilie for a cigar, what with all the recent births)

I wish I could give credit where credit is due, but someone at the Boston Globe once wrote of the Red Sox, "They killed my father and now they're coming after me." That was the most frightening baseball collision I've ever seen. Its tough enough to beat the Yanks, it will be extra tough though without Damon. Could anyone believe that the other guy, Jackson, stayed in the game? Coming off the field he looked like a punch-drunk fighter, two guys along side him, and yet there he was batting in the next inning.

Tough crowd. I thought this would at least get a but maybe the thought of a poor actress being propositioned by this man offset the amusement of the pun.

I guess we can only hope that his novel will not be made into a film. Then some sweet innocents might be subject to the Casting Crouch.

Hey Chuck, is the album worth hearing? -

I recall seeing a Cadet LP of a couple of singers, a live recording in Vegas, up on Ebay and being quite surprised to see Von listed in the backing group. I checked out the Argo/Cadet discography and if I remember correctly, this was the album: LP*-4057 - Carryin' On - Milt Trenier & Micki Lynn [1967] So I'd say the answer, Jim, is that Von *was* gigging in Vegas EDIT: Pretty sure I'm right, here's an image of the album cover: -
Hope its a Happy One, Brad! May you receive all the music you asked for and the time to enjoy it.

This will probably make GoM's eyes pop right out of his skull, but I'm going to quote that learned scholar and esteemed Gentleman from the Great State of Massachusetts, Teddy Kennedy: "The cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die" GO REDSOX!!!!

Why I Don't Go To Bars (except to work)

Yes, perhaps because Stacey's story starts like this: Mrs. Joe Blow gave birth to a son, Steven .... -

You forgot Blues Message, also released as This Is The Blues -
Does that include the special audio plug-in for portentous voice overs?
-
Just spotted one on the LRC Sonny Lester issue of the live Messengers date, Moanin', the oddball one with Hardman but also Billy Harper and Julian Priester. On the back panel, the title track is credited to Horace Silver instead of Bobby Timmons. D'Oh!
-
Yeah, but when that's over, will he take the darn Blindfold Test I so thoughtfully provided? Or, hand it off to Joe and Randy and let them post their guesses.

I had an electric for a brief time but was never that satisfied. On the other hand, I have a great talent for ripping my skin off with a razor, so I guess I'm stuck either way. Did anyone else grow up seeing their father shave and come to the conclusion that it was the removal of the shaving cream that removed the beard, rather than the blade doing the work? I remember Dad lathering up my face and I would use the straight edge of a toothbrush to "shave". Sometimes I get the same effectiveness now. I guess the subsidiary question for manual shavers would be "up" or "down"? B)

The ironic thing being that I came oh so very close to using a track from that George Coleman Octet recording (the recent one).
-
The Two and Four Octet release is easily recommended, Bev. I saw Big George at Smoke with the Octet and didn't hesitate to buy the CD on the way out the door afterwards.

Only one page according to my settings ... Anywho, not much I can add to the discussion, its a terrific date for all the reasons mentioned, but it does remind me of what at the time qualified as a truly "Great Find"-Maybe three years ago, I spotted a Liberty pressing of this on ebay. The auction was headed up there, around $30 with another day to go, when I headed up to West Palm Beach for a record show. And what do I find? A very nice VG+ Liberty pressing, $12. Man was I happy! When I moved to St. Louis in the late 80s for Graduate School, I was quite shocked to learn that I was so close to the New Madrid fault and how long it had been since it last slipped significantly. Then they started telling me about how the worst building material in earthquake zones is brick-they just vibrate apart, I guess-and I started noticing all of the brick houses in that town. I am afraid St. Louis is going to pay the piper someday, just as L.A. will, too. -
More of the same, mostly, an original named "soulin'", "Walk on by", "Mercy Mercy Mercy" and one oddball that I definitely considered using-"Impressions"
