Its probably a completist purchase mostly. I do like the album overall, but the two pop covers get pretty monotonous. But the rest is pretty solid. It sounds like you can safely pass it by, though, doncha know, eventually it will be going for $400 on ebay?

I just got an update list from one of my record dealers and I spotted this title and description: SESAC PA-231/2 Tyree Glenn Just A Minute!(DJ) VG+++ 25.00 (Above LP also feat. Sy Oliver,Joe Newman,Clark Terry,Seldon Powell,George Barnes,& others - this LP was only sent to radio stations in the U.S. in 1959 - never sold in stores!) So, I inquired as to what he means by "never sold in stores" and this was his response: "The LP only went to radio stations back in '59 - there were NO copies available for record stores - the only way you could get this LP(and there were others like it on the SESAC label) was to get it from a radio station - this label is highly sought after by collectors because there were NO copies ever sold in stores" So, my question is, can anyone shed any light on this label?

Please... we need your help.

Any gigs booked yet, Jim? -
Really terrible news. Knowing what you know, I would not have bothered with the threatening letter, I'd go straight to the AG of Texas and the BBB also. You can probably write off the $$ but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to hurt the bastards, one way or another.

And one last "up". I've got about 12 "signups" and expect Tony's master disc to arrive in today's mail, so any final requests would be appreciated.

In the category of "Sappy Pop Ballads": Barry Manilow, "Can't Smile Without You" Gladys Knight, "You're The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me" I'm off for the weekend. In the meantime, y'all can decide whether to vote me off the island.

Help needed in treatment options for my Mom
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Beri, Very sorry to hear of your Mom's condition/situation. It reminds me of my younger brother's experience. In his last year at Vanderbilt, he was constantly ill and ultimately ended up at Vanderbilt Medical Center, where cancer was suspected. In fact, while he was there having all of the tests done, his girlfriend stepped into the elevator with a couple of nurses, one of whom turned to the other one and said "Did you hear about that student, Peter Gould? Oh, its so sad-he has cancer." Which we hadn't even been told yet!! You can imagine his girlfriend's reaction. But get this-ultimately, the doctor's at Vandy decided it *wasn't* cancer and basically sent him on his way. By that December, he had graduated, moved to D.C., and found himself at Johns Hopkins, where in December of '95 they told him that he did have lymphoma, that it had spread to several locations and that there was a 20-25% five year survival rate. So, the lesson is as everyone has said-find decent doctors immediately. (So I don't leave you hanging and end this on a positive note, the short story is, I was a perfect match as a bone marrow donor, he's been cancer free for over 7 years now, and is now a graduate of William and Mary Law School and a lawyer in D.C. So don't give up hope!) -
I have approximately 12 purchased CDs awaiting first hearings, plus another BIG box of burns totalling no fewer than 58! That actually completed a trade wherein I sent his requests back in the spring, but I told him to hold off on sending my requests because at the time I saw a bit of light at the end of the tunnel and I didn't wish to be awash in music so soon-I even put the turntable back on the main system so I could reacquaint myself with some vinyl. And, I've actually been shuttling CDs back and forth to work such that, since the spring, I've actually gone through the entire alphabet, choosing music I haven't heard in a while. Right now I've got a stack of Ben Webster on the desk, I anticipate getting through the rest of the alphabet by the middle of September. So, even though I am feeling swamped again, I do feel pretty good about getting alot of "old" music back in the player. Too bad with a birthday and anniversary coming up next month, I'll be even more swamped before I even crack that big box o' burns!

Yes indeed, and it seems to me the area around her bountiful boobs is a bit lighter than that image shows, "if you know what I'm talking about".

Mule, Keep an eye on Dusty Groove, this was out in Spain (I think on Dauntless, not sure if its connected to Fresh Sound or not) and I got it at the Groove for $12. In fact, the very fine "Sunday Afternoon at Small's Paradise" is also in stock right now(actually I dig that one more than "Tales" because there's more room for his sidemen, which include Griff, Clark Terry and Horace Parlan).

This is exactly what happened in Chicago a few years ago, though I think that the lower death toll is related to both a shorter heat wave and a quicker government response (although it was slow at the start, no one went on vacation in the middle of it)

The fucker should have had the fuckin' book thrown at him, followed by a prison sentence so he can get butt-fucked in the shower. There's a thread topic: How many different forms of the word "fuck" can you use in a single sentence? I used it as a noun, an adjective and a verb

Stop the presses! Jazz Kitten likes Benny Green!!! I'm surprised you didn't throw in a few of these:
-
Well, Brownie, I screwed it up anyway. Not having Taylor on my radar is one thing, but forgetting Bud Powell is inexcusable! Maybe I should start a new poll ...
-
Ladies and Gentleman, Shawn is in the HOOOOUUUUUUSSSEEEE!

Guess I should have limited it to "Kenny Drew/NHOP/Alex Riel" rhythm sections? Which actually brings up a good subject regarding these recordings-Drew is right there, with the swing of Frog, Long Tall Dexter's exuberance, and the "fastest gun in the west" of Griff. Kenny Drew was the schitt!
-
I threw in Herring because I believe he's had at least some gigs replacing Ralph Moore, though I don't think he's recorded. I saw the later era group a couple of times, including my one trip the Village Vanguard, so I gotta go with Ralph Moore.

Come on people, give up some love for old Gene!
-
I fear that I am missing someone who made appearances at the Montmartre, but these are the three I could think of. I'm pretty sure that Dex is going to win, though for late-period Webster, these live sets are pretty good!

Time for another 20% off the total purchase, today through the 24th. Here

Jim, I think it can be done approximately twice a month. I plan to send my blindfold test out at about the same time that discussion should be starting on Tony's test (ten days to two weeks after mailing). Then, giving about two weeks to the full discussion, from impressions to the posting of the discographical info, we should be able to have a perpetually ongoing test. BTW, since exact dates are problematic in the extremus, I'm figuring we'll call these Organissimo Blindfold Test #1, #2, etc.
-
Definitely! The Basie, Benny Carter, Ella Fitzgerald & Sweets Edison dates can all be recommended.

Political forums on the Organissimo board
Dan Gould replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Forums Discussion
The fact is that 99.99% of the time, the political threads are worthless. Opponents yelling at each other, insulting each other, goading each other ... and for what? For what? And with Greg's appearance and Johnny's return, its only going to get worse. Jim Dye's example of an alternative forum will never fly-half the shit the left spews (hell, Clem and Johnny alone) won't get past the No blanket statements about any particular group of people ('All members of this religion are idiots') rule. Given the fact that essentially no serious exchange of ideas or beliefs has ever occured in the political threads, I wouldn't miss them a bit.
