  1. Yeah, I'm happy for Pat, too. (And for your dad and father-in-law, as well, of course.) I'll be a little sad to see Pat go.
  2. Is there a definitive camera angle of the base running on this play? I haven't seen one yet that shows Bartlett rounding third -- whether he hesitated or was going all the way; what the third base coach was doing. That might put Utley's play in a little better perspective. If they didn't have a camera on third base, Fox screwed up royally. I've yet to see that shot. Thank goodness they captured the reactions of every single individual in the stadium at the final out though ... I heard Ryan Howard on Mike and Mike this morning, and he said the coach sent Bartlett when he saw the fake.
  3. I'm with you, Johnny. One of the greatest nights of my life! How about Chase's fake to first and throw to the plate! What a play! Go Fightins!
  4. Too bad about the Garner. Would love to hear that stuff.
  5. Thanks Larry. Now my curosity is really peaked! Can you give us a clue as to what is included? Does it read like a biography? More like an academic analysis of the music? What's Pullman's approach? Post of mine from May 2007 on this thread: I've been playing something of an informal advisory-editorial role here. The book is completed and is IMO excellent -- everything one could wish for when it comes to nailing down facts, sorting out myth from reality, establishing social context, etc., etc. Pullman's labors here are almost awe-inspiring in their thoroughness, and no less important, their scrupulousness. In particular (and I think this was a very wise choice), Pullman doesn't presume to be able to read Powell's mind. Also the book is not, nor is it intended to be, a book in which Powell's music is analyzed. Pullman writes very well. The density of information is at a very high level when such information exists and can be dug up (and information of that density is what most people like us would want, I think), but the book certainly flows and has moments of high drama. Wow! This does sound great! Thanks again.
  6. Thanks Larry. Now my curosity is really peaked! Can you give us a clue as to what is included? Does it read like a biography? More like an academic analysis of the music? What's Pullman's approach?
  7. Anyone have an opinion on the Interplays? Thanks in advance.
  8. Great news! Thanks!
  9. Phillies in 5. Go Fightins!!!!
  10. Jorma wasn't a member of SVT. Obviously the concert was so loud it effected my memory too.... I went to a Hot Tuna concert in the early 70s that was crazy loud, as well. The loudest I had ever been to (until I went to see Dick Dale years later). Dale wins hands down.
  11. Dick Dale in Cleveland maybe 10-15 years ago. It was so loud, I had to go outside and listen from there. Just earsplitting. It's a medical miracle that he is not deaf.
  12. Wow! I'll be sure and check that one out.
  13. That would be my advice too. Thanks a lot. I'm convinced.
  14. How improved is the sound? Is it worth getting if I have the material from the three Blue Note/Pacific Jazz releases from the 1980s? Thanks in advance.
  15. Yeah, I've got a lot of the Prestige stuff, much of which I like a lot. The "best of" sounds like a good bet. Thanks!
  16. I heard some samples, and they sound pretty nice. Any opinions? Any recordings better than others? Thanks in advance.
  17. Seems like a number of people here have both of these! I'll definitely be checking them both out. Can you recommend a place to buy them? Thanks so much.
  18. I'm afraid that I have to agree. The guy cannot play country. It kinda sounds like Fripp and Eno doing country or something. It's stilted and has no country soul. However, like someone else noted, I too love his stuff with motian and lovano.
  19. And don't forget the "Gentle Side" CDs. Gene Ammons was a GREAT ballad player -- one of the very best.
  20. Yes, it's my mate's personal favourite Ammons. A very, very rewarding album with a rhythm section of people I've never heard of. I think it was issued on CD in Japan earlier this year (maybe last year), with a different title. MG As always, MG, you have impecable taste.
  21. House Warmin' is a pretty underrated set. It's not up to the same standards as Boss Tenor (my personal favorite), but it's damn nice. Howard McGhee burns it up, as well.
  22. Is that Gallio? I am a long time listener, and will really miss that show (although Mike will be going on without Dog). If you live in NY and love sports, this will be a day that will live in infamy!
  23. Link works for me. Are any you guys familiar with this stuff? The samples sound great.
  24. I wrote a review of these back when they first started generating a ton of hype on the 'net. I know of several $400 (and cheaper) speakers that beat them...but for the money they are nonetheless outstanding. As if they're not already a good value, occasionally they go on sale for $60 or even (rarely) $40 a pair! Best thing about them is the those coaxial drivers...they image like crazy. If you don't know what "imaging" is as it pertains to speakers, a pair of these properly placed is a great inexpensive lesson. Oh! And thanks for the link!!! You rock, Clarke!
