  1. Actually, I started listening to her on your advice and now I'm hooked!
  2. Been looking for this for a while. Anyone got a copy for sale? Thanks in advance.
  3. Sam Noto - Noto-riety
  4. Really sad! He put on one of the best concerts I've ever seen (with just himself). What an incredible guitarist!
  5. That's awful. My heart goes out to you both. They are going to fire 115 people out of a workforce of 800 where I work. The next few months are going to be very hairy. I think I'm safe, at least for the time being, but if the economy keeps worsening, there will probably be another round of cuts. I guess that's what 8 years of Reaganomics plus 8 years of Bushanomics will do for you.
  6. Boy talks a lot, but at least he has some pretty interesting shit to say. I think he should be writing album notes.
  7. A bunch of Nina Simone stuff
  8. I once saw him playing in a band at the opening of a posh mall in Westchester County (NY). People were just walking by him and his band, but it didn't stop him from playing his heart out. During an intermission, we spoke and he couldn't have been nicer or more gracious. A class act, in addition to a great musician.
  9. I can't believe my Iggles lost!! It's a sad day in the blind-blake household. The worst part of it is, I'm going to here it from all of the Giants fans I work with. Oy!
  10. Y-E-S!!!!!!!! Up over and out. FLY, EAGLES, FLY. ON THE ROAD TO VICTORY.....
  11. Go Iggles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. man, you've been listening to a lot of this one lately. Anita was awesome---sorry I missed that set. Disc 9!?!---damn, I don't remember it being that large of a set!!! Yeah, I'm listening to that one, as well. Just terrific stuff.
  13. Already sent you an email, but Happy Birthday dude! You da man!
  14. Happy birthday, my man.
  15. You and me both!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate way that people are always ragging on him. If he had the same supporting cast as Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, he would be a hall of famer too.
  16. Forgot to mention that I once met Donald Byrd at the record store. What a thrill!!!!!
  17. So the original building is still there? The building at that address looks like a small building constructed specifically to house offices. It's the size of a house but not the construction of one. Thanks. On Wikipedia they say, "The house in Hackensack had been designed and built so that it could also be used as a recording studio." So perhaps it's still there in its original form. I'll definitely have to check it out next time I'm down there.
  18. Rare Records was the best!!!!!!!!!! I'm still friendly with Rod and Diane. Good people, those two. Wow, I wonder if our paths ever crossed there. I used to go there all the time.
  19. So the original building is still there?
  20. Was at some other sessions but no really famous ones. However I was present - among other ones - at the Club Saint-Germain back in 1958 when Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers were recorded there by RCA, also at 'The Great Concert of Charles Mingus' in 1964 (both shows at the Salle Wagram and Théatre des Champs-Elysées), the 1966 Cecil Taylor 'Student Studies' concert at the Maison de l'ORTF plus various concerts by Miles Davis, also John Coltrane, in Paris that were later released. OH.......MY......GOD.........!!!!!!!!!!!! You have truly been blessed, my man..truly blessed!!!! I was born too late, I guess.
  21. Have a good one, Marty!!!!!!!!!
  22. Wasn't Brownie there at that one? No! I was not in New York at the time. But I was at the 'Spirits Rejoice' session sometime later... Other photos I took that day illustrate the liner notes to the ESP CD reissue of the session. THE session I wish I could have sat in: the Jones-Smith Inc. session in Chicago, November 9, 1936 Wow! You were there! How cool is that! You got any stories you can share? Were you at any other famous sessions?
  23. Seems to be a hard disc to get hold off. Backordered thru amazon as I couldn't bear the $18 postage charge that Firehouse wanted to charge me !!!. It sounds as if it'll be worth the wait It's available on emusic, if you care to go that route. Very interesting disc!
