  1. Look who's talking! Well, some of us don't exactly embrace bigoted, foul-mouthed posters, but you're not some of us, are you "bb"? BTW, I wonder if homophobe ymb knows that Don Pullen was gay. You're right. Some of us don't embrace biogoted posters - such as YOURSELF. Incidentally, I guess you chickened out on our debate about the power of Jews and anti-Semitism. You never did respond, even after having been reminded more than once. You are very articulate and knowledgable about jazz, but when it comes to understanding Jews, bigotry, and racism, you have a lot to learn my friend. I think you should apologize to every Jewish person on this board in regard to your comments about Hitler being a Jew, Jews being responsible for the Iraq War, that Jews don't see the King David Hotel attack as terrorism, etc., etc., etc. You are a crazy old man. Now go crawl back into your hole.
  2. Look who's talking!
  3. I met him once at a WKCR event and he couldn't have been nicer or more down-to-earth. Sounds like sour grapes on Chris' part.
  4. Dag! No one has any opinions?
  5. With Haewon Min. Been eyeing this one for a while. Does anyone have any opinions about it? The samples sound very good. Thanks.
  6. It doesn't say on their web site, unfortunately.
  7. Same for the Shepp / Roach. I saw that announced around 4 years ago. Dag! I hope you guys are wrong and that they'll see the light of day soon. You saw those announced on the HatArt web site 4 years ago or someplace else? I'm holding out hope that they're coming. Does anyone have a contact at HatArt they can email or call?

  9. Don't know if you guys are aware of this or not, the the Hoss Allen Sessions are now available on emusic. I downloaded it yesterday, and Sangrey is spot on. Just great!
  10. Anyone know what happened with Peter Pullman's Powell biography? I've been eagerly waiting for this for years.
  11. How did Willie come to know Yiddish? Any idea? That's amazing.
  12. "Blues and Ragtime from New Orleans" or "Piano Prince of New Orleans." Anyone have copies (in any form) for trade or sale? Anyone know if they were ever reissued? This forum got me hooked on Booker, and I now need more! Thanks.
  13. I find myself listening to more jazz than ever. I think it might have something to do with "market forces," althought I don't like to admit that I've been manipulated by the "powers-that-be." I've been buying A LOT of jazz over the past 15 years or so in view of the incredible reissue programs that have emerged. It seems to me that we have witnessing something like a "golden age" in jazz listening. Many, many recordings that have not been available for many, many years have been seeing the light of day, and I've been trying to accumulate as many as I can for fear that I may never see them again. My listening has been dictated in part by this buying. Does anyone feel the same way?
  14. Was recently thinking about this thread and how hysterical it was/is. Just thought I'd bring it back for old-times sake. ECM pathway Listen, reflect, eat nachos Break wind like thunder
  15. I get nervous when I'm not playin' ... The month of February especially makes me nervous! Show off!
  16. Interesting! Ralph Sutton, huh?
  17. Anybody read Bill Bryson's "Notes from a Small Island"? Real funny book on the subject of being British (sort of).
  18. I think "OBVIOUSLY" is too strong a term. Take track 20 for example, "All the Things You Are". It is very Flanagan-like. (The sequence around 1:30-1:40 is pure Flanagan). So whoever the mystery pianist is, he/she was doing a pretty good imitation of Flanagan, at least on this track. The one track that raises major questions for me is "Rosetta." But it's interesting that with the exception of this track all the other questionable tracks are tunes which appeared (sometimes frequently) in Tommy's live and recorded programs. Here are two other points worth mentioning: Ted O Reilly (whose knowledge I respect a great deal and on whose radio program I cut my "jazz listening teeth") mentions the difference in piano sound between Tommy's tracks and the "questionable" tracks. Actually the sound also varies a bit on the definitely authentic tracks. There is a noticeable sound difference between track 1 "Parisian Thoroughfare" and track 2 "Wail" .The other point we shouldn't overlook the ability of master jazz pianists to sometimes play in style different from their accustomed signature syle. It has been said that when the mood struck him, Bill Evans could play down-home swinging blues in the style of Milt Buckner. I'm not dismissing the "other pianist" theory, but until Storyville tells us who the pianist, is, I am not prepared to use the term "OBVIOUSLY." One thing I will say is that it is an EXCELLENT CD. .....and the plot thickens!
  19. Thanks Ted. I'd love to know who this pianist is, as well! Whoever he is, he's good!
  20. It was decided that Scott was not welcome. Q Any idea why not? I like his work.
  21. I'm very sorry to hear that. He's a terrific player.
  22. Yes, I'd be curious, as well. If you ever find out...
  23. Anybody willing to sell, trade or provide copy. I know that much of it is not really Tommy, but the clips I've heard sound great. Thanks in advance.
  24. You play better that way?
