  1. I once met Charlie Lourie at a WBGO record show and suggested he release the complete Wynton Kelly VeeJay recordings. He said he would look into it, and then a couple of years later....
  2. Jazz's first great soloist, one of its greatest singers, a genius at improvisation, a great showman, one of the greatest trumpet players of all time, an incredible musical communicator, and the single most important figure in the music. The guy was amazing! If you enjoy jazz, you'll enjoy Louis.
  3. Yeah, you're probably right, although I know I've paid more for some CDs. Such is the life of a music addict.
  4. What happened to Brownie???? He wanted to spend more time in the real world, outside cyberspace Man, I hope he comes back. He may be the only sane person among us!!! (Come to think of it, maybe that's why he left!) He does put in an occasional appearance. Good. I've come to rely on him for his excellent suggestions.
  5. Nobody heard them?

  8. Have a good one!!!!
  9. Just heard a sample from "Jessica" and it sounded really good. Thought I would give this thread a bump to see if anyone has heard these Roy Porters after all this time. Anybody?
  10. I guess that's kinda what I had in mind. My main concern is thtat the plastic sleeves fit in those monsters, so I guess I'm ok. Do you have one of those Can-Am storage systems? If you do, what are your thoughts? Yes i do, i think their great except the price, the only thing i don't like about is the separator that is used to keep the cds tight together is made in cheap plasctic, wish they'd made it in metal , it would be more firm, they'd do a better job that way. But overall i'm proud of having it. Of all the kits i ever owned to store cds it's by a landslide the best. Thanks! I appreciate your thoughts.
  11. I like the way you separate stuff. I'll have to try that. Thanks!

  13. Thought I might give this thread a bump. I've put all of my CDs in the those plastic sleeves like they sell at Jazz Loft (http://www.jazzloft.com/p-34281-space-saving-cd-sleeves.aspx). I now have thousands of them, but it's next to impossible to find anything when they are on shelves. You can't read the spines very well. I'm thinking about moving over to a system like Can-Am, but am unsure if the plastic sleeves (which are slightly bigger than jewel cases) will fit. Does anybody know? And have there been any other decent storage systems that have be developed over the couple of years since this thread was discontinued? In particular, is there anything that enables you the flip through CDs from front to back (instead of storing them on their sides as with regular shelves) like the Can-Ams? Perhaps something that's a little less expensive? Thanks in advance.
  14. I love those albums with Rendell, too. Very sad.
  15. Thank YOU Marty. Great site.

  19. For some stupid reason, we Americans can't download these reissues. I don't get it, but that's what it says when I try to order this. I've tried on a few sites with no luck! it's called payback, you insolent colonist. stick that in your cap and call it macaroni.
  20. Cool!! I'll definitely look into it!!! Thanks again!!!!!
  21. The Harlequin I have, but it's material from 1942-44. What are the records or disks you are talking about for the 1938-41 material? Thanks so much! I'm not sure we're talking about the same Harlequin disc: The 6 tracks of her London session of 20-05-38 are on "Safely Locked Up In My Heart" (Harlequin HQ 2076, also fetauring Lil Armstrong sessions and 2 tracks from 1939 featuring Una Mae Carlisle as pianist with Danny Polo etc.) 6 tracks from her 02-08-40 and 13-11-40 sessions are on "The Greatest of the Small Bands Vol. 6" (RCA FXM1 7124, Black & White Series Vol. 141) Her 10-03-41 session (4 tracks incl. Blitzkrieg Baby) is on "The Greatest of the Small Bands Vol. 3" (RCA 741 117, Black & White Series Vol. 106) and on "Swing Vol. 1" (RCA LPV-578), and others. Which makes a total score of 16 out of the 21 tracks of the 1938-41 Classics CD. Maybe worth checking out (if that CD really proves elusive) unless you have most of the other (fine!) music on those LPs anyway. I guess we aren't talking about the same Harlequin!!! Thanks for the info. This is great!!!!! You da man!
  22. Thanks, man. This is very helpful.
