Why the hell aren't you writing album notes? Your analyses are very insightful.

Wow! Great videos! Thanks, man! Gourley really was awesome.

It's excellent. You, of all people, would love it!

Love the samples!! Thanks man, and best of luck!

Tough one! I'd have to go with Complete Commodore Vol. 1, Art Pepper and Bud Powell. But it would hard to live without the the Monk, Herbie Nichols, Sidney Bechet, Cecil Taylor, Larry Young, Lester Young, Basie Live, and Chet Baker/Russ Freeman sets.

I have nearly all of this material so I won't be picking up this box. But Michael Anderson (I'm assuming it's the same Michael Anderson who used to be the late night dj on BGO & was the only reason to listen to that station) is an interesting intelligent guy and I'd be surprised if he didn't put together a good & interesting selection of music & interviews. Thanks. I have the same opinion of WBGO. Do you have any idea where to find the Parker solo session from Kansas City in May 1940? Iit had been on the Complete Birth of the Bebop on Stash. I'm also very interested in hearing Parker with just guitar and drums from Kansas City in September 1941 (also on the Stash CD). I'm tempted to buy Michael Anderson set just to get that stuff.

I preordered that from ESP but haven't received it. . . I notice it's been available from other retailers for a spell. . . .Looks as if it is going to contain the material in the four ESP lps/cds and more, including interesting interview segments and a hefty booklet. If you could tell us what you think, I'd be very gratefull

Can anyone comment on this? http://www.amazon.com/Bird-Time-1940-1947-...909&sr=1-16

I actually got "Boss organ" yesterday. Yes, it's good. The two Choice LPs have kind of been reissued, because most (not all) of the tracks were reissued on the Muse LPs "Smokin'" and "Mama Roots" (and some reappeared on 32Jazz). But there are differences. I'm still trying to sort this out. MG Wow! I have those two lps. When you figure this out, please let me know! I assume you mean you've got "Smokin'" and "Mama Roots". If I thought you had "Soul crib", I'd want to get your address and my burglar's uniform out. MG I've got four dogs, and their loud! I guess your above post means that Smokin and Mama Roots don't cover Soul Crib, is that right? What's the deal with Soul Crib. Is that any good? Any possibiilty of it being reissued? Hey, I don't know, man! If I knew what it was like, I'd have a copy and wouldn't need to think about getting my burglar's uniform on. The deal with "Soul crib" is that I think most, all, or many of the "Soul crib" tracks have been reissued on Muse. But there are George Coleman overdubs on two of the "Boss organ" tracks reissued on Muse. And Dave Schnitter is supposed to be on these "Soul crib" tracks on Muse and, if so, he's thought to be too young to have made the recordings in 1969. So are there Dave Schitter overdubs on the Muse reissues? Or is the sleeve wrong? Or don't we know his correct age? Or what? MG Wo! The plot thickens! This shit is complicated, isn't it?

I alway found Bill Barron to be a vern interesting player. Dragon has just released some recordings of him made in Sweden over the years. Has anyone heard them? Are they any good? Many thanks. http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=mnw...mp;refQ=cat%3D5

Has anyone ever run across a copy of his "Soul Crib" and/or "Boss Organ" albums? I've always wanted to hear them -- I think they were his first. Are they any good? And does anyone know if there are any plans to re-release them?

Bessie Smith Question for Chris Albertson
blind-blake replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Discography
Although the Frog's sound better, the booklets that Chris did for the Columbia CD sets are great. If you really like Bessie Smith, you won't want to miss them. -

Chet Baker in Europe 1975-1988

Thought I'd try one last time. -
As much as I love AI (for leading my Sixers to the finals), and as high a regard I have for Billups' game, I don't think this helps either team much. The Celtics are still the class of the East (although watch out for Toronto -- they look great in the early going) and the Nuggets are nowhere near being contenders in the West. I think it's pretty much a wash.

I bought a used copy of this out-of-print book of photos on-line. It was supposed to come with a CD of rare Chet Baker stuff; unfortunately, it did not. Can anyone make me a copy of the CD? Needless to say, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks.

Anyone have trouble with orders from Jazz Loft?

I've always thought their service was excellent. -
Did anyone happen to see Sarah Palin congratulating the "Phillies fans" during her speech in Erie, PA, yesterday? She was subsequently booed by the overwhelming number of Pittsburgh Pirates fans in the audience. Guess she needs to study her Pennsylvania geography.
