  1. My "ripping" software did not find any data associated with the discs. I did not find an entry in Discogs (at the time - and did not have the courage to create one), so I copied the information from Mosaic's website into Excel, and cleaned it up. Here is the file (text, with columns separated by semi-colons) with the disc number, track number, and titles: https://storage.googleapis.com/cloudplayer/samples/mp3tag.txt I then imported the track titles into my "tags" using a tagging software (MP3Tag). Could be useful to others... Since then, someone created a Discogs entry: https://www.discogs.com/release/32107818-Various-Classic-V-Disc-Small-Group-Jazz-Sessions My tagging software can import Discogs entries to fill in the titles, but the "Medleys" screw everything up, as they are identified as separate sub-tracks on Discogs. I have designed my own "app" to add information, such as credits and comments, to my music collection, and it looks like this: It takes a few hours to enter all this, but I like to have the credits "on line" (and use them to search my collection).
  2. Here's another new release, scheduled for December: https://resonancerecords.org/product/sun-ra-lights-on-a-satellite-live-at-the-left-bank-2-cd/ Preview:
  3. I used paypal. Never had any issues ordering from Mosaic. Looking forward to the Vanguard set as well.

From the first club session, a nice track in which Ross solos twice: https://storage.googleapis.com/cloudplayer/samples/03 These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You).flac The second solo (between Corcoran and Berry) is wonderful. Check it out!

I followed up with this album, which has two excellent 1945 club broadcast, with some fine Ross solos (among others): https://www.discogs.com/release/15778163-Willie-Smith-The-Harry-James-All-Stars-Live-In-45 What a treat to have this available!

His "Barbed Wire..." LP was re-issued on CD by Fresh Sound Records: https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/arnold-ross-albums/1121-just-you-he-me.html It is available on some streaming platforms. I had it playing on repeat on my stereo this afternoon... As a result, I just ordered his first album, which was reissued in Japan on CD.
  9. Listening to this today. Do you know the exact date of this session? EDIT - just found out - March 1957, based on the liner notes of the original LP: https://www.amazon.fr/Buckin-Blues-Buck-Clayton-Septet/dp/B019VMBBX2 Thanks

    Bud Freeman

Speaking of later Freeman recordings, I was just listening to "The Compleat Bud Freeman" (recorded in 1969) and enjoyed it. https://www.jazzology.com/item_detail.php?id=JCD-165 Is it "monotonous" as Balliett suggested? There are certainly no fireworks, it's all very relaxed and he stays close to the melody, but I find it charming...
  11. I was just listening yesterday to the Keynote Collection, reading his album notes, and listening to some of his interviews posted on YouTube. Sad news. RIP Dan Morgenstern, Chronicler and Friend of Jazz, Dies at 94 https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/07/arts/music/dan-morgenstern-dead.html?smid=nytcore-android-share Here's a nice video of Morgenstern at Rutgers, which was just (re-)posted today: The passing of a generation...
  12. Ira Sullivan - Peace. I made a needle drop of one of the tracks. Very nice album.

  14. His trio sessions were re-issued by Fresh Sound Records in 2016: https://www.freshsoundrecords.com/wade-legge-albums/6418-wade-legge-trio-.html The CD is available on some streaming services.
  15. I read about an album released in 2016: "The Jimmy Ellis Quartet Live at Andy's Jazz Club in Chicago" but could not find it listed anywhere. Did this album ever come out?
  16. Thanks for pointing that out.
  17. Here is the CD on the Internet Archive, with 30 second excerpts. The booklet is scanned so you can read the liner notes and session information. https://archive.org/details/cd_profit-all-the-solo-and-trio-sides-complet_clarence-profit There a few 78s that you can listen to on the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/78_dark-eyes_clarence-profit-trio_gbia0363416a https://archive.org/details/78_body-and-soul_clarence-profit-sour-heyman-eyton-green_gbia0017552a There are also a few videos on YouTube, for example:
  18. I build large speakers ("open baffle") and dabbled with vintage speakers (Altec), but I realized I was spending too much time tinkering with the sound, never really satisfied, and I was too often listening to the same "playlists" for comparison purposes. 6 months ago, I "downsized", in favor of a set of very cheap speakers (400€!) that someone recommended. I did modify them by changing the "crossover filters" (I just followed instructions provided by a trusted source). I'm really happy with the sound, which I find detailed, lively, yet relaxing and very easy to listen to for a long time. My girlfriend is happy not having monster speakers in the living room, and she really enjoys the sound as well.
  19. Mingus published a book about training your cat to use a toilet, you could try that, but it could take time if your hallway is far from the toilet https://www.charlesmingus.com/mingus/cat-traning-program One of my two cats uses the litter box to pee, but always poops right in front of the box (or in another bathroom were there is no litter box). Weirdos...
  20. The sound quality of this Hutcherson set is really good. I don't have any of the LPs to compare to, but compared to some of the previous CDs, the sound is much more pleasant.
  21. Many Jubilee shows are available here: https://retro-otr.com/channel/music/jubilee/ I am really looking forward to a Mosaic box set.
