  1. Hank Crawford - The Soul Clinic (Atlantic, 1961) Who is the trumpet player on this record, Phillip Guilbeau? I've never heard of him before. He gets almost the whole of "What A Difference A Day Makes". Not even a Wikipedia page.
  2. That’s a really good description.
  3. Interesting looking one.
  4. I'd happily have more groove, or more rhythm. I quite like the keyboards (a mate saw Armon-Jones recently in a different setting and was raving about him). It just seems like it is a bit middle of the road. I'm happy she is getting exposure though. People obviously like her music.
  5. I'm still slightly unsold on Garcia. She seems to be a step back from other musicians on the scene at the moment.
  6. I don't know this one, but I like his playing on those Grant Green records. Would you recommend this?
  7. Spincare stylus brush and Onzow Zerodust between them sorted me out. Thank you to everyone who replied. Now to up my cleaning regime.
  8. Rachel Musson and Olie Brice - Tapering Arms Point Into The Wind I haven't enjoyed a free improv record this much in a while. Thanks to @mjazzg for the recommendation.
  9. The Jazz Composer's Orchestra - The Jazz Composer's Orchestra (JCOA, 1968) I'm not even a Larry Coryell fan normally, but I think that his solo on the second track is an under recognised avant guitar classic.
  10. Big fan of this one.
  11. Chick Corea Akoustic Band – Alive (GRP, 1991) Not a group that I ever really "got", but they have a huge following in some circles. Giving it a listen after a conversation with a friend's brother, a fusion head, who considers this record up there with the very greatest.
  12. I'm seeing some references to Pat Martino today that suggest that be may have sadly passed away. Very sad. I always enjoyed his playing.
  13. I really enjoyed it.
  14. Creative Improvisers Orchestra - The Sky Cries The Blues (CMIF, 1981) A Leo Smith record (I think) that I didn't previously know.
  15. This is one of my favourites.
  16. I always wondered what was meant by the phrase “piped music”. Was it necessary to have an actual cable?
  17. Boogaloo Joe Jones - Right On Brother (Prestige, 1970)
  18. The Swedish Modern Jazz Group - Sax Appeal (Barben, 1960) Dated cover art aside, this one is leagues ahead of most of the group's European peers.
  19. Has anyone had any experience of using this product? Flux Hifi Stylus Cleaner https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00YPS6TF8/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_VGXEMETMFVJSEJ92N7XT Recommended to me by someone.
  20. Thank you!
  21. Maybe that's the answer. I think it perhaps has something sticky on it and then the dust and hair has got tangled.
  22. I was relying on it to be a miss. They failed me. It's chilling isn't it? I've got space issues. I really only have a basic cabinet below my player. It's three reasonably generous shelves. That's the end. Hope things are okay.
  23. What do you do? Just squirt it on?
  24. A bit of a Steve Hoffman type question here, for which I apologise. I recently upgraded my hi fi, with a fancy new Plenar 3 with Exact cartridge. It's great. No regrets, save for one pretty major issue. The stylus picks up dust as it plays, like all styluses. This one has a little cross bar thing though, and, once it picks up the dust, it sometimes can't be dislodged. I've tried various approaches - blowing on it, using a horsehair brush gently, and the horrible DIY blu tac approach, but often it is just not possible to get the dust off it. It's a full tangle. Like a beard. This happens daily at the moment. This is not an issue I encountered with my previous set up, which was a bit more robust and where the dust just dislodged with a blow. Is there any solution to this issue? I read somewhere about ultrasonic devices that can clean a stylus, and wondered whether that was the answer. Anyway, any help much appreciated. EDIT: Obviously, I also need to stop being so lazy and get the deionised water and the mop out, but that's a different story.
