  1. Pretty nice Doyle stuff here. Highly recommended for fans of Peter Brotzmann's collaborations with Keiji Haino. Also, this is the final performance of Mizutani (Les Rallizes Denudes).
  2. https://youtu.be/_d9zfhCPq3U This documentary is an essential watch for Arthur Doyle fans. I didn't really understand stories I had heard and read about him until I watched this.
  3. I'm sorry to hear that that CD is a needledrop, as I am looking for an affordable copy of that album in any format. I wonder if the tapes are in someone's attic/basement, waiting to be rediscovered?
  4. I have the 2000s LP reissue of this, seems strange there has never been a CD. There is a digital version on different streaming sites, copyright date 2007.
  5. Scribd has a lot of fakebooks, but I had some trouble with them continuing to charge me after I tried to delete my account. I have had pretty decent results just searching name of composition, name of composer, and then "lead sheet pdf" on google. This is one of my favorite PDFs I have found, The Compositions of Ornette Coleman https://jamiebreiwick.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/ornette_coleman_compositions.pdf
  6. Body Meta is a great one, such interesting rhythms. I also suggest: Prime Time Live: Opening the Caravan of Dreams This is also worth your time, could perhaps be seen as a proto-Prime Time (featuring James Blood)
  7. Miles and Friends - In a Silent Way Miles in 91... Looking for more along these lines.
  8. He also played on 2019's Patty Waters - Live!
  9. Oh man, the synthesizers on that album are outstanding. Very forward-looking record. I'm also a sucker for anything with Byard Lancaster, especially in the early days... I've seen some people write that that album may be the the most far-out record released on a major label... At the very least it's a contender for that distinction... I'm down with all of Shepp's stuff, even his lesser efforts. I honestly really like Phat Jam in Milano... Still, I mostly listen to his stuff from the timeframe you enumerated. I am fascinated by the story Shepp tells where a family friend asked him: “Well, Archie, I’ve got a lot of your records. When are you going to play something that I can understand?”
  10. Well I managed to find a scan (PDF) of the issue that has part 2. Not sure if I can find part 1 online. DownBeat I echo JSngry's sentiments on the Harmolodic albums, but I want to give a special shout-out to Charlie Haden playing bass-fiddle through a wah pedal on Rock The Clock (on Science Fiction)... I have even heard a live boot (10/25/71) where he's using the wah!
  11. I am really curious about getting some 5.1 speakers for my late 90s Onkyo (usually my backup amp), the idea of getting to hear some of the new Anthony Braxton albums in 5.1 is very appealing... Bitches Brew in quad seems very appealing too, along with Santana, Zappa, Floyd, all that stuff.
  12. I am not a big fan of Wisdom Through Music. It has its moments but it's lacking some of the drive of the other Impulse Pharoah sides. At least it's better than that totally whack Arista album though...
  13. That's a wild coincidence, when I saw him he signed my copy of Live at the East!! My girlfriend had him sign her copy of Iphizo Zam... He didn't want to talk to fans but his son and his bass player would relay messages to him. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered him but I was determined. Live at the East is a great album, one of my all-time favorites. I love the story of how they couldn't get the recording equipment at the actual venue The East, so they brought the audience from the venue to the studio.
  14. I would totally buy a Simmons-Lasha box. Totally underserved in this era of plentiful reissues.
  15. They really need to reissue this, all the Simmons sides, and the Simmons-Lasha album the Cry.
  16. Glad my man Michel Portal is in the mix!! Should be an interesting release.
  17. Yeah, I caught two Pharoah shows at the Iridium in 2019 (on vacation) and Tomoki tore it up on tenor. I asked him for some saxophone tips, and he said to learn some Gene Ammons (apparently Pharoah was a big fan).
  18. That fellow is his youngest son, Tomoki Sanders.
  19. Hello, I was wondering if anyone has a digital copy of Ornette Coleman's article "Prime Time for Harmolodics" from Down Beat's July 1983 issue. It appears it was republished online on WBCN's website, but the link has died. This seems to be one of the few published explanations of Harmolodics, and I am really curious to read it if anyone has a digital copy. Thank you
  20. Please check out my Pharoah Sanders - Live and Rare playlist on YouTube. I guarantee you will see or hear something you haven't before. I keep the playlist updated as new videos are uploaded. Pharoah Sanders - Live and Rare
  21. Wonder how this compares to Spirits Rejoice, also published recently?
