  1. 31. If I don't order soon, Soulstation1 might have to go all Lee Morgan on my ass:
  2. I caved yesterday -- ordered the Morgan/Shorter on the internet. Got a confirmation email just a few minutes ago. Had to pass on the Kelly/Chambers; I really want the new Tal Farlow when it comes out. Oh yeah, I also want that JJ Johnson set. This time, I think I'll go with REASON #28: That darn Mosaic order button is so easy to press. (thanks, LAL!)
  3. 9. Some people buy Corvettes, some people buy expensive boats -- as for me, I spend my money on black cardboard boxes (preferably without hinges) and shiny plastic discs.
  4. I always thought that Blind Cheetah was a *much* better group. They KICKED ASS!
  5. As if she would believe that one -- you and I both know where that $100 went!!
  6. 1. IT'S GOING OUT OF PRINT!!!! LAST CHANCE! (and if I wait, it will just cost more on EBay later). 2. There are many hard to find and/or OOP sessions included -- if I didn't buy the Mosiac, I would end up spending much more to get each session on expensive imports.
  7. Kingdom Come*: the homeless man's Led Zeppelin. *or Whitesnake, Great White, White Lion, Billy Squier, ..... ( Great White Lion Snake?? )
  8. Is Queensrÿche the poor man's King's X? My first exposure to Rush was 2112. I still like that CD, excess and self-importance not withstanding. The definition of CLASSIC ROCK, imho. Moving Pictures still sounds good today, in limited doses. I heard a rumor that Joe, Jim and Randy are planning some Loverboy covers. Can't wait for that!! All this talk of E.L.P. and Yes, and nobody's mentioned ASIA?? THOSE GUYS ROCKED!!!
  9. Right , so she can order the next set for you You *have* to talk to her at least once a day so you can carefully plan for the arrival of your next Mosaic shipment....
  10. Thanks, Lon. I was always curious about the differences between the two boxes. I'm going to try to find the Columbia version. I think the sound of these recordings definitely turn some people off, especially if their ears are used to RVG's and the like. I initially couldn't get past that "old" sound, but I remember quite clearly the moment when I could finally hear beyond the limitations of the recording technology, and really hear the music. It took some time, but it was well worth the effort!
  11. My wife is a big Dave Matthews fan, so the VH1 special was required viewing. We enjoyed that show as well, but we both were irritated with the "sound-bite" MTV-ish, limited attention-span type of production. I wish it had been more in-depth -- regardless of how anyone feels about Trey and Dave, it seems like they are both genuine in their love and respect for the music and the musicians.
  12. Possibly a dumb question, but what's the difference between the Columbia box and the one put out by JSP? I have the Columbia "best of" CD, and the complete box set has been on my want list for quite a while now. It seems like the JSP is more readily available than the Columbia version.
  13. Thanks for posting that, sal. I'd bet a dollar that Trey ends up making a record with Dave Matthews. I didn't catch it, but I read somewhere that Trey and Dave played with Orchestra Baobob on Letterman recently.
  14. Word to your mother! Everybody Digs Vanilla Ice!! Cube probably would be better as Trane than as Miles. Or maybe he should be playing Cannonball Adderley?
  15. The physical resemblance isn't very strong, but in attitude and intelligence (and acting ability, too), I think Ice Cube could do a good job playing Miles.
  16. Well, it's still May 19th here in West Michigan, but what the heck.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHUCK!!! And thanks for introducing me to some FANTASTIC music!! Your hospitality is much appreciated! I can't tell you how much it means to me to have someone like you living relatively close. I apologize if this sounds like mushy CRAP, but I really mean it! B)
  17. Glad you're OK, Bill. Where did this happen? Somewhere on US-31?
  18. Hey, that's a good observation!! That strategy has worked pretty well for the regular CD's (especially when they are not organized very well), but I hadn't thought about that for the box sets. The problem is I only have three Mosaics, so it's pretty obvious when a new one is added. I guess I need to buy a bunch more so that won't be an issue anymore. ... let's see, there's the JJ Johnson, the two Vee-Jays, Tal Farlow coming up, ....
  19. I really like the new sets (especially the book), but my favorite packaging is the Plugged Nickel and Blackhawk sets. They sit on the shelf with all the other CDs, in normal jewel boxes. I'll just have to put the new ones with the Mosaics, I guess. (the Mosaics are hidden under the desk -- I'm sure I don't have to explain why...)
  20. Thanks, Chaney. Next time I order from CD Universe, I'll make sure to start with the link on Alan's page. That new Music Resource printed catalog is a nice -- the entire Blue Note catalog, with a description of each album, song titles, and complete list of players. Now if they could just improve their delivery times....
  21. I'm VERY interested in buying the both of your invoices, as I've heard a rumor that Mosaic is now remastering all PINK invoices with 24-lb paper, rather than the usual 20-lb. I also have it direct from my contacts in the paper industry that all YELLOW invoice paper is now on the LAST CHANCE list! Their best estimate at this time is that all yellow invoice paper will be sold out soon -- which can range anywhere from tomorrow to two months. Either way, I'm not taking any chances!! I want both copies!!!
  22. Thanks, jazzbo and 7/4. Incidentally, both of these boxes say "24-bit remastering". I didn't even notice that until I saw Clem's thread on that subject. I have no idea if these will sound any better, but my single CD copies of Miles Smiles and Nefertiti both say "20-bit". Regardless of the number of bits involved, it sounds great to me! B)
  23. Sure! Here's a couple more of the Quintet box. As I mentioned earlier, I was debating which ones to buy -- I ended up buying two of the new ones for roughly the price of one original box set. It's pretty amazing when you think about it, as these can be had for around $50-$60 each. That's an average cost of less than $10 per disc, and each disc is packed full. I was never able to find an "album index" for these sets, so here's some info: Miles Davis - Quintet 1965-1968 ALBUM INDEX E.S.P. (Originally Released 1965) Miles Smiles (1967) Sorcerer (1967) Nefertiti (1968) Miles In The Sky (1968) Filles De Kilimanjaro (1969) Water Babies (1976) Circle In The Round (1979) Directions (1981) The Columbia Years 1955-1985 (1988) I'm assuming that the last four or five albums listed aren't "complete" in this box set, but I'm not sure. The Discography is very detailed. The Miles/Gil Evans box includes Miles Ahead Porgy and Bess Sketches of Spain Quiet Nights
