  1. When did you sign up originally, Greg? Was it before or after the $4.99 offer started disappearing? I'm probably going to just sign up now (at 5.99), and then try begging for the $4.99 deal. At this point, it might be too late.
  2. 200 cars -- that's unbelievable! Last night the GR news was reporting 100! I'm also glad I wasn't out driving yesterday!
  3. ---> :rsmile: <---
  4. Um, yeah, we're gonna need you to go ahead and not watch Office Space anymore, because it contains "a theme of irresponsible work ethics". Now for something completely pointless: link.
  5. Good idea, Al. I'm also sitting the fence on this one. The $4.99 deal almost pushed me over the edge, but now that it appears to be back up to $5.99, so I'm in no particular hurry. Aw heck, I'll probably sign up, as it only took about an hour to come up with this want list (all supposedly readily available): Duke Ellington - Piano in the Foreground Duke Ellington - Piano in the Background Charles Mingus - Mingus x5 Ornette Coleman - Complete Science Fiction Cecil Taylor - Conquistador Larry Young - Mothership Hank Mobley - Straight No Filter Wayne Shorter - JuJu Miles Davis - Seven Steps (box set) Ornette Coleman - At the Golden Circle, Vol 2 Miles Davis Quintet - Workin' (K2) Roland Kirk - Domino Thad Jones / Mel Lewis - Consummation Frank Sinatra - Songs for Swingin' Lovers Lee Morgan - Sixth Sense Cannonball Adderley - Mercy, Mercy, Mercy Donald Byrd - Byrd in Hand Dexter Gordon - Go Thelonious Monk - Columbia Years (x3), Monk's Dream Sonny Rollins - Complete Prestige Recordings Grant Green - Grantstand Jazz Messengers - At the Cafe Bohemia Vol 1
  6. Clicking that link now shows $5.99 -- I cleared my cache twice just to make sure. I was just getting ready to join. Is $4.99 gone for good??
  7. I can't believe no one has mentioned Uncle Ted!!!
  8. Any new developments? It looks like both of those CDs are now available. I've been thinking about joining (and "Piano in the Foreground" would probably be one of my first purchases), so I was curious if things have gotten any better.
  9. "poop your pants?!?!?" Been changing a few too many diapers lately? Apple sues popular Mac Web site
  10. Mosaicism: I had to buy it -- that shit was on LAST CHANCE!!!
  11. I'll second the suggestion for Mingus' "Passions of a Man" box set. If that's too much $, I'd highly recommend The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. I picked up the above around the time that my collection was still heavily weighted with Blue Note RVGs. Nothing wrong with that of course, but the Mingus stuff was a real eye (and ear) opener!
  12. This has probably already been discussed here on the board, but why would Mosaic want to sell these retail, at a higher price? Is it just for the added exposure? The Selects are great products, but it seems that many of the artists would be quite obscure to casual jazz fans browsing at a bookstore.
  13. Hey Dan, what's a Mosaic calendar? I have the 2004 Blue Note, but I've never heard of a Mosaic one. I scored 4 RVGs this year (Leeway, My Point of View, Una Mas, and Jackie's Bag), plus Larry's new book. I had already bought Dan Morgenstern's book, so Santa didn't need to bring that one! Plus, I bought myself a present from Chuck -- the AEC box, plus Missing Link and Have No Fear. No shortage of good music or books this year! B-) P.S. Hope you're feeling better after the appendix thing, Mark. Load that ipod up with tons of great music!
  14. I've been attempting to go cold turkey too, but I had to get these titles from Chuck first: Von Freeman - Have No Fear Fred Anderson - The Missing Link Art Ensemble 1967/68 These should keep me busy for awhile! B-)
  15. I've seen the first 3 or 4 at a Borders-like bookstore in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are locked up behind glass, like all the other box sets, which unfortunately discourages casual browsing. The Moncur and Green sets both have a "Staff Recommendation" card describing the sets, so somebody there must have more than a passing interest in jazz. I'm pretty sure the price is $39.95. The sad thing is that I first noticed these sets almost a year ago! I don't think anybody has purchased one in that time.
  16. Up Up Up Up Up Up Up My man Al is not exaggerating here -- this is a great CD! This is one of those CDs that makes you feel good just to be alive. Go Ms. Owens!
  17. Up once again, as I'm hearing this for the third time now, and it just keeps getting better. Gotta go play it again, indeed!
  18. One for South Park fans:
  19. BASTARD!!!! Hey Big Al, You'd *better* buy some Styx records, RIGHT NOW, ... or they will have to come down to Texas and KICK YOUR ASS!!
  20. If b3-er got a 0.01% cut of every CD purchased because of this board, he'd be an extremely rich man. (just added it to my list, as I'm sitting here listening to Frank Hewitt!)
  21. My 13-year old son has been into "non-wussy" Metallica lately. I gather that anything later than the black album qualifies as wuss rock. This is definitely some "loud, fast, and tight" stuff. I find myself enjoying it at times, but I'd still much rather listen to Joe Pass with the Gerald Wilson orchestra than to Kirk Hammett's fretboard pyrotechics. After reading that last paragraph, I just realized something - it's official: I'm turning in to an old fart! It's also a little strange to consider that most of those records he listens to came out over 20 years ago -- when I was in high school!
  22. That's a good 'un, Al. B-) I wasn't crazy about it at first, but now I'm really diggin' it. It was also my first introduction to Jackie McLean, and I've been really enjoying his stuff as well.
  23. Oh great, thanks Chuck -- now I have that stupid song in my head.
  24. Great show so far, Lazaro. Thanks! Randy -- while I really dig the stuff you do with Joe and Jim, it's really cool to hear your playing in different groups. B-)
