  1. Here's a tough one.
  2. I'm enjoying this modern creative album with two caveats: 1) It goes on a little too long. I may burn a disc omitting a couple of tracks. 2) Four of the tracks include a banjo (as discussed in the press release). I'm willing to continue to listen to see if this experiment grows on me, but my first impression is that the jarring sound of the banjo takes away from the beauty of the smooth tones of the trumpet and alto.
  3. Gregg Xenakes Week 10 picks http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4432462
  4. Correct, Valerie!
  5. While we're waiting for a hint from Bill, here's one:
  6. Apropos, I am in the market for shoebox type boxes to store perhaps 30 CDs each. Any ideas?
  7. Correct, Noj! I think she was Miss Nevada or some such thing.
  8. LOL! Monk has always been someone whose compositions' titles I have a mental block about. Much more so than any other composer.
  9. Hint: She is known for only one role, but I once saw her in a ca. 1959 episode of Maverick.
  10. The Als have placed Mark Estelle on the nine-game injured list. They already have injury problems in their defensive backfield, and they're going to miss him. He should be back in time for the playoffs. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=374786
  11. The highly popular "What music did you buy today?" thread is up to 195 pages and 5,824 posts, so I thought I would start a similar thread about DVDs. Yesterday I bought the box of four Dean Martin Matt Helm movies called the Matt Helm Lounge.
  12. Sure, sure, sure! Valerie, do you know my post #563?
  13. Correct, Valerie! Paula Prentiss was/is 5'10", and she was often paired with Jim Hutton because he was one of the few actors under contract who was taller than she was. One of my favorites they made together was called The Horizontal Lieutenant. Phyllis Newman was a regular guest on The Match Game when it was on in the afternoon ca. 1962-3. I still think that photo looks more like Diane Keaton! Here's another one of my favorites.
  14. Phyllis Newman?
  15. Diane Keaton?
  16. She's one of my favorites.
  17. Chuck, the Roughriders are the only sports team I know of whose radio broadcasts are sponsored by competing brands of hybrid canola seed!
  18. Ivor Wynne is 81 years old. It has now been determined that the original plans to renovate it are asking too much of the old structure, so last night the City Council voted to demolish it and build a completely new ballpark. This is good news in the Ticats' minds. No plans on where they will play their 2013 schedule have been announced. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=374804
  19. He'll always be Mr. Pomfritt to me!
  20. Correct, Jim! I learned last night that he was the President of the Screen Actors Guild thirty years ago, preceding Ed Asner.
  21. I received a $40 Amazon gift certificate, and I spent it on the Frank Sinatra Capitol Concept Albums box and the Dean Martin Matt Helm DVD box. That's a lot for $39.00!
  22. Correct, Valerie! I'm surprised anyone got her. Did you know her when she was married to Lester Bowie? Here's someone whose face I bet many recognize, but do you remember his name?
  23. This is a hard one.
  24. Here are this week's TSN power rankings: [1] Winnipeg: Fifth win in a row helps secure top spot[2] Calgary: Jump up a spot with victory over defending Champs[3] Montreal: Fell two games behind Blue Bombers with loss[4] Hamilton: Could not complete comback in Winnipeg[5] Edmonton: Looking for share of West lead against Stamps[6] B.C.: Well rested Lions hope to keep momentum going against Argos[7] Toronto: In B.C. on Labour Day weekend looking for third win[8] Saskatchewan: Miller's first game in charge is a tough matchuphttp://www.tsn.ca/cfl/ ***** This weekend coming up is Labor Day Weekend, which is considered the start of the second half of the season, just as the All Star Game break is considered the start of the second half of the baseball season. So I think this would be a good time to say the following. In the fifteen or so years that I have been listening to all the games on the internet, this year has been by far the least interesting. Toronto, Saskatchewan, BC and recently Edmonton have been pathetic. That's half the league. There have been fewer exciting games than usual. The passes to nowhere have been in abundance. But it is not uncommon for things to change in the second half of the year. Just last year BC and Edmonton were quite good in the second half after being dismal in the first half. Saskatchewan has fired its coach, so things may turn around for them. Steven Jyles will soon come off the injured list, so the Argos might get better in a hurry. BC has already shown some signs of improvement recently. Edmonton did well until their top four receivers went down, so if they can just hang on until they get them back, they might surprise in the playoffs. I can't explain how the Bombers have lost only one game so far. They are good, but not dominating. The Als have played better than their three losses would indicate. The Stampeders started slowly but won games on the road, and now they are starting to perform well. That leaves the Ticats, who will probably finish the year at .500. So all is not lost for the season yet. But we need to see better quarterbacking and better receiving if they expect people to come out to the games.
  25. Correct, Valerie! I thought you might get her. But I bet you didn't get Kate Upton!
