  1. ejp, my understanding is that you have to use it before midnight tomorrow night. I take it to mean buying some music before then.
  2. Correct marcello! Steve Marcus was my favorite when I was in college. That was the heyday of jazz rock. Yesterday I spent my sonnymax Amazon $2 MP3 credit on the bulk of his Count's Rock Band album.
  3. Here's one.
  4. That was interesting TTK! Sort of a 1968 Bananarama.
  5. I see on another board that it expires Sept. 30 night.
  6. I think you guys are being a little too hard on the album. I hadn't listened to it since the week it came out (which I figured said something right there). So I put it on today, and had it on in the background. From that perspective, I thought it was fine. I enjoyed their last album Folk Music a lot more, so in comparison this one is a little disappointing. But as background music I think it is just right, and there are many times when background music is what I need.
  7. Big news from Amazon today. They announced a new tablet called the Fire, which was expected, and three new Kindles, which was a surprise. The Kindles start at $79.00.
  8. Greg Xenakes Week 14 picks http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4440028
  9. Dave Naylor Week 13 wrapup http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=376870 ***** The Bombers are bringing back Michael Bishop. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=376957
  10. Thanks sonnymax! Do you know when it expires?
  11. Amazon has a grey market import box of Miles Davis called Twenty Classic Albums for $18.98. It also has: Sonny Rollins - Eight Classic Albums - $13.40 Jimmy Smith - Eight Classic Albums - $13.52 Hank Mobley - Eight Classic Albums - $8.01 Lou Donaldson - Eight Classic Albums - $8.07 Kenny Dorham - Eight Classic Albums - $7.28 Cannonball Adderley - Eight Classic Albums - $8.13 Red Garland - Eight Classic Albums - $7.34 Thelonious Monk - Eight Classic Albums - $7.64 John Coltrane - Eight Classic Albums - $7.26 Charles Mingus - Eight Classic Albums - $8.17 Modern Jazz Quartet - Eight Classic Albums - $11.43
  12. Correct, Dave!
  13. I'm going to bequeath Chuck a bottle of scotch. And after he is finished with it, he can sprinkle it from head to foot!
  14. I read just the other day that spotify pays the artist $0.004 each time a song is played. The entire CD is 4 cents. The article didn't say how much the record companies are paid.
  15. OK, so who was his brother?
  16. This Sunday's show will be Andy Rooney's last appearance on 60 Minutes. He will continue to have an office where he will write books. http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/andy-rooney-to-end-regular-60-minutes-appearances_b89348
  17. Ray Mariuz has come out of retirement to rejoin the Ticats. We'll see if there is any gas left in his tank. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=376880 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/ray-mariuz-comes-out-of-retirement-to-rejoin-ticats/article2181680/
  18. The Bombers are in big trouble. They lost both Fred Reid and his backup Carl Volny for the year due to ACL injuries in Saturday's game against the Argos. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=376808 ***** For the second week in a row, lots of changes in TSN's power rankings. Without a running game, I expect the Bombers to drop like a rock next week. [1] Winnipeg: Despite loss to lowly Argos, retain top spot[2] Montreal: Character win over Eskimos in Edmonton[3] B.C.: The meteoric rise in the win column continues[4] Edmonton: Loss to Alouettes at home costs them two spots[5] Hamilton: Offensive explosion in Moncton is promising[6] Calgary: Defensive breakdowns means drop of three spots[7] Saskatchewan: Embarrassing loss to Lions at home unexpected[8] Toronto: Despite win over Blue Bombers, more work to do http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=376798
  19. Correct Valerie!
  20. I got the promo of this one early, and have really been enjoying it. Pedicin reminds me of Charles Lloyd. Barry Miles does a fine job. There is nothing here that reminds me of his work of the 70s. It's all straight ahead piano.
  21. Apparently Evan has forgotten to give us a hint or two! In the meantime...
  22. It's that time of year again! This year's Grand Final will be this Saturday (Friday night in the US) - the Collingwood Magpies vs. the Geelong Cats. My Hawthorn Hawks almost upset the defending champion Magpies in the semi-finals Friday, but fell just short. The game will start at half past midnight eastern time, 9:30 pm Pacific time in the US. As in the past, I expect that you can listen to it at 3AW's website. Last year I found it on another website as well, so I guess more than one network carries the radio broadcast. http://www.3aw.com.au/
  23. Thanks for that, Tom! I don't remember that, but it reminds me vaguely of the music of the 70s private eye shows.
  24. British Columbia Lions 42....Saskatchewan Roughriders 5 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4439123 I thought this would be the most interesting game of the week because both teams had momentum. Instead, the Lions took a 30-0 lead in the second quarter. ***** Toronto Argonauts 25....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 24 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4439165 Crazy game, in part because the Bombers had the best record in the league, and the Argos the worst. Maybe the most interesting game of the season so far. Lots of key injuries. Winnipeg's Buck Pierce, Fred Reid and Alex Brink and Toronto's Stephen Jyles were knocked out of the game. Joey Elliot was already on the injured list, so Winnipeg had to finish the game with their fourth-string quarterback. ***** Hamilton Tiger-Cats 55....Calgary Stampeders 36 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4439350 This was the annual Maritimes game, this year again in Moncton. Terrific first half, but the Ticats blew it open in the second. Marcus Thigpen returned a missed field goal 118 yards for a touchdown. ***** Following up on the idea that the pennant races are unusually good this year, I note that the three teams with the best records (Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton) lost this week. This goes along with my view that no matter how good all the teams are, two will not make the playoffs; and no matter how bad all the teams are, one will be awarded the Grey Cup. I've been following the CFL on a weekly basis since 1974, and this is the first year that I can recall that the better teams were so unreliable. The cup is truly up for grabs this year.
