  1. I got Woody Woodpecker from the laugh, but I figured that Walter Lantz was too obscure for even you to suggest!
  2. Maybe one of the Europeans will get this lovely lady.
  3. Marty, did you ever go to a Titans game, when Al Dorow was their quarterback?
  4. Apparently the Chiefs are a bad club this year. And the Lions seem to be decent.
  5. Winnipeg Blue Bombers 25....Montreal Alouettes 23 http://64.246.64.33/...aspx?id=4437600 Great game. The Bombers never trailed, but the Als were able to always remain within striking distance. I learned during the broadcast that a beer at Percival Molson Stadium costs $9.25! ***** It occurs to me that although the number of good games is smaller than usual this year, the pennant races are unusually interesting. None of the best teams are particularly dominating, and three of the four hapless teams of a month ago seem to have turned their seasons around.
  6. Correct, Paul! I've spent the weekend listening to some CDs of hers.
  7. While we're waiting for Jim to give us another hint, here's one.
  8. Saskatchewan Roughriders 30....Toronto Argonauts 20 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4437285 Good game. The Riders came from behind in the fourth to win it. ***** British Columbia Lions 32....Calgary Stampeders 19 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4437355 The Lions dominated. BC has won a number of games against hapless teams, but this I think is their first win against a team that is decent.
  9. I received an email today from spotify that said that the number one song in my area (North Carolina? They didn't say.) is Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness. That surprised me, because it's been decades since I've heard it on the radio, and because I would have thought that the number one song would be something the kids would listen to like hip hop.
  10. Edmonton Eskimos 38....Hamilton Tiger-Cats23 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=375967 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/eskimos-push-tiger-cats-into-tailspin/article2169807/ The Eskimos scored first and never trailed. It looked like the Ticats might mount a comeback in the third quarter, but Edmonton got serious and blew the game open. Edmonton is winning again now that Ricky Ray has Fred Stamps back.
  11. Correct, Bill! Lenny Bruce.
  12. Thanks, guys.
  13. Isn't that Jack Ruby?
  14. I saw Tiant pitch for the Red Sox once in Baltimore. It was a doubleheader in 1975. We had seats in the upper deck directly behind home plate. (I'd never sat there before.) Tiant pitched one game. Mike Cuellar pitched the other. They both pitched complete games and won. Tiant had his screwball, and Cuellar had his Cuban palmball, and it was eighteen innings of the ball squiggling into the catcher's mitt! I'll never forget it.
  15. So who was it?
  16. I can believe that Michelob drinkers are migrating to the craft beers, but I can't believe that the Old Milwaukee guys are. I think that TD's post #10 has the ring of truth.
  17. That looks like Jimmy Piersall! I remember in '64 when he stepped up to the plate wearing a Beatles wig!
  18. Globe Week 12 picks http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-week-12-picks/article2167127/ ***** Buddy Tinsley has died. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=375869
  19. Our favorite joke when I was 12...What do you call a tired guy from southern Germany? A bushed Bavarian! Thanks for that article, impossible. Nothing like a billionaire's sons to ruin a company.
  20. Correct, Valerie! I still associate her with Bo Belinsky and Aqua Velva!
  21. BW, really the shift is due to light beers apparently. For example, Old Milwaukee Light didn't make the list!
  22. Here's an article on twelve teams whose attendance has gone down through the floor. Number one on the list is the Cleveland Indians. It appears to me that ticket prices are too high, and when the teams don't win, people don't go. http://247wallst.com/2011/09/14/the-12-major-league-sports-teams-running-out-of-fans/
  23. Here's an article about eight American beers whose sales have plummeted in the past five years. Number one on the list is Michelob. When I was sixteen, popular price beers cost a quarter, regular beers cost 30 cents, and the premium beers cost 35 cents. I would spend the extra nickel and order a Michelob, and no one ever thought to card me! Anheuser Busch has a number of beers on the list. Perhaps their marketing or their management has been below par since they were sold to that Belgian company. http://247wallst.com/2011/09/09/the-eight-beers-americans-no-longer-drink/ By the way, for me it's not enough to say that the beers are no good. That doesn't explain the recent sales decline. They weren't any good five years ago either!
