I received an email today from spotify that said that the number one song in my area (North Carolina? They didn't say.) is Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness. That surprised me, because it's been decades since I've heard it on the radio, and because I would have thought that the number one song would be something the kids would listen to like hip hop.

I saw Tiant pitch for the Red Sox once in Baltimore. It was a doubleheader in 1975. We had seats in the upper deck directly behind home plate. (I'd never sat there before.) Tiant pitched one game. Mike Cuellar pitched the other. They both pitched complete games and won. Tiant had his screwball, and Cuellar had his Cuban palmball, and it was eighteen innings of the ball squiggling into the catcher's mitt! I'll never forget it.

Here's an article about eight American beers whose sales have plummeted in the past five years. Number one on the list is Michelob. When I was sixteen, popular price beers cost a quarter, regular beers cost 30 cents, and the premium beers cost 35 cents. I would spend the extra nickel and order a Michelob, and no one ever thought to card me! Anheuser Busch has a number of beers on the list.
