  1. I'd like to disagree a little bit with the idea that a decreased inventory in brick and mortars leads to decreased sales. Of course it does to some extent. But I feel that the relevant decrease is the decrease in selection of what you can hear on the radio. Some of you (New Yorkers, for example) may have a different experience locally, but as I drive throughout the South and other areas, I find the selection of music on the radio to be dreadful. My favorite example is adult popular music. Every year (except this one!) Tony Bennett wins a Grammy for adult pop album. I can't remember the last time I heard a radio station playing that kind of music that was a current recording. When I grew up in New Orleans in the 60s, there were three radio stations in that city alone which played that kind of current adult popular. Today as I travel, I occassionally come across a "Music for Your Life" station which plays music from the fifties; but as I say it's been decades since I have heard a current adult pop radio station. I believe that the limited selection of music to be found on the radio decreases sales more than the limited selection to be found in brick and mortars.
  2. Interesting that we are talking about the past ten years. I am surprised that a major in recent times would do that.
  3. What's two stone in pounds?
  4. Here's a Globe article on the top five free agents: http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home
  5. Here's an article from CNet that says that Walmart this morning announced that it will discontinue carrying HD DVD: http://www.news.com/8301-10784_3-9873029-7.html Could the viewer tell the difference between the two formats? Did either format offer much of a selection of classic movies?
  6. Here's an article on whom they consider the five most bad-ass presidents. They rank Andrew Jackson #5, but I would rank him #1. http://www.cracked.com/article_15895_5-mos...s-all-time.html
  7. Here's a Dan Ralphs article about the household names who have been cut for salary cap reasons. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home Of course, they are household names because they have been in the league for a number of years. It looks like the real money will be paid only to the highest level performers, and everyone else will either have to eat humble pie or step aside for the young guys coming up.
  8. Here's a brief article about a new basketball shoe Nike is making made up of scraps from the plant floor and recycled shoes. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...Basketball/home
  9. The Saints have decided not to offer Kerry Joseph a contract. http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/new...3c-4a629c7d5887
  10. Don't bother me! But seriously, I like the "use it or lose it" idea. I have thought for a long while that that is what we should have in the US. It might discourage bootleggers, and it might encourage the owners of the master tapes to spend the money to remaster.
  11. Getting back to the original post, it is a mystery to me why people would sell their CDs after putting their music libraries on one item, such as a hard drive or an iPod; particularly when hard drives and iPods have a reputation for failing. If something goes wrong, there goes your library!
  12. Thanks Rachel! I suggested to my sister that it might be Dan Fogelberg, but the name Longer Than doesn't mean anything to me. I googled his greatest hits albums, and none of the titles were familiar. I'll let my sister know.
  13. My sister has asked me who did a song (I'm pretty sure it was a hit in the 70s) whose last line was "I'll be in love with you." I'm pretty weak on 70s music, and I thought someone here would know. As I recall, the singer has a fairly high voice, and I would call the song soft rock, maybe 70s folk rock. My sister says that the melody goes: g ed efgagecd g ed efgaba g ed efgagecd gfe(flat) dc Thanks!
  14. Here's a good article about the players scheduled to become free agents Saturday: http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home
  15. Chuck, Tim Horton was a hockey player. He played at the end for the Buffalo Sabres. I think he spent most of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
  16. The Ticats traded Brock Ralph to the Eskimos for Michael Botterill and DB Chris Thompson. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home ***** The Bombers traded Rob Pikula to the Lions for DB Sebastian Clovis. The Bombers have had problems kicking, and I'm surprised that they would let Pikula go before training camp. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...tsFootball/home
  17. I voted #2, but it wouldn't surprise me if they both were charged with perjury.
  18. Do you think he'll have any trouble getting it?
  19. Here's an interesting article from CNN about what constitutes bad weather and justifies a weather delay in the airlines' eyes. http://www.cnn.com/2008/TRAVEL/traveltips/...ref=mpstoryview
  20. I've just signed up for mine. If I understood it correctly, the coupon must be used within 90 days of its being issued, but it will not be issued until the converter boxes are in the stores, which it says will be later this month or next month.
  21. Tom, now the pressure's on you!
  22. Thanks Chris! Quite a number!
  23. aloc, right away I looked for the Canadian league and Australian rules football, and I didn't find any. But I did find this: http://deadspin.com/354906/introducing-the...s#poll_=UTOzQTM
  24. Bummer. I received word today that this is no longer available. Damn. I'm a moron. Have been meaning to order that from BMG/yourmusic for the longest time... Me too TD. I'm going to have to stop acting as if what they have they will have forever.
