  1. I can't understand you seriously comment on something Aric writes....... The Japanese box is K2 remastered in Japan. Since there are a few sessions which didn't come out individualy in Japan as K2 remasters I've been thinking of getting this box (but didn't). 95% is out as Japanese cd remastered K2 or even Digitally K2.
  2. Mike: how about the 1957 Columbia The Birth of the Third Stream/Music for Brass sessions? They have Charles, Evans and Farmer on them.

    Dave Pell

BTW, is Dave Pell British? sort of...he's from the west coast
  4. Jazzmoose: if your posting is refering to the one by Wolff above yours it makes no sense...... The domestic RvG's aren't in the carton sleeve format you hate! I have almost all JRvG's and like most but certainly not all of them (soundwise). I keep those for the mini LP cover (which I love as all of you know by now). I'm in the luxury position to have all of the regular TOCJ's as well so if the sound of the JRvG isn't mine I play the regular TOCJ which is always good to say the least.
  5. I think Mr.Mingus just wrote his second and last posting.........
  6. A little correction..... the Rogers and JJ Johnson RCA stuff is issued by RCA Spain and not by Fresh Sound. Jordi Pujol is the reissue producer (He owns Fresh Sound) but it's BMG Spain bottom line for the RCA stuff.
  7. What has a trade to do with me not living in the US? I don't have the Tenessee Firebird CD so if that's the one you want to trade it's impossible!!!!! Otherwise I'm in for trades.......
  8. What RCA Rogers did Mosaic use?? The Rogers set is Atlantic and Capitol/EMI only. I like the Burton RCA cd's which I have a lot but Tenessee Firebird is awefull (IMO). So maybe a select with the more straight ahead material is a better option. Cheers, Reinier
  9. Good first posting Fran!!!! Welcom to this board. Just received a mail from the master himself which also said it would be a 8 cd set.
  10. Anyone want to buy my v4.4? $150 (post paid). PayPal only. Cheers, Reinier
  11. I have a (I guess non bootleg) Japanese CD version of the Candoli & the Masquerade. They were reissued by P-Vine in 1998 together with Way out Wardell (Wardell Gray, Groovin' High (Stan Getz), The Hawk Swings (Coleman Hawkins). The Jazz Masquerade Cd also has the Jazz Surprise! album on it (don't know if the 2 are complete). All 24 Bit remastered in Japan with catalog numbers PVCP-8737 / 8741. All are mono except the Hawkins. This surprised me because The Candoli has a cover with Stereo on it (and Chuck has a stereo LP so it does excists in that format). Cheers, Reinier PS the sound is OK on these but nothing spectacular. I assume them to be better sounding than the Spanish bootlegs though.
  12. As if Groningen and Zeeland are close to eachother let along similar!!!!!!! Cheers, Reinier
  13. Tragic end for a great man...... on a lighter note....are there going to be more reissues in the MPS series? Cheers, Reinier
  14. For those of you who can't wait.....Universal Japan just reissued (almost) all of the music form this period on carton sleeve 24 Bit, 96 kHz remastered CD's. And this might be even more money and window throwable....... Cheers, Reinier
  15. Hello all, a question related to the Tracks in the Sand topic: Did Arthur Phipps play on a jazz date after 1957 and if so which? I can't find any. Did he even live or play after that year? Thanks and cheers, Reinier
  16. It's a matter of company policy (what's not!!!!). McMaster is a staff employee of Capitol so he is already on the pay roll (so let him do the work) while Addey is hired and an extra cost. Cheers, Reinier
  17. Just noticed this thread for the first time..... I'm a big Hiroshiophile. I've been ordering with him for almost 8 years now (all my Japanese CD's come from him and you don't want to know how much that is........). A+++service and fast as hell. But all has been said above about him. Cheers, Reinier
  18. The Hill needed to be remixed as well and in that case MC uses MA because he's more close to home so he can be there as well more easily. Cheers, Reinier
  19. He was the "house engineer" for the Groove Mechant label which excisted in the beginning of the 70's (Buddy Rich, Groove Holmes, Jimmy McGriff, Dakota Staton, Carmen McRae to name a few). They were recorded by him with good results I must say. Cheers, Reinier
  20. Rooster I believe I have your copy now (bought it second hand through Amazom.com) but it's scratched like hell......how do you look after your cds???? Cheers, Reinier
  21. and forgot to add the euro 8 shipping outside Germany!!!!!! Cheers, Reinier
  22. It's not that I don't like the stereo spread (which is indeed extreme) but on the composite stereo version the drums are barely audible while on the mono take 6 they are clear and crisp. The bass is also better defined on the mono take. Cheers, Reinier
  23. Yes I'm sure the take 6 of Crepuscule With Nellie is MONO!!! That's the only track in Mono the rest is stereo (although the mono track of Crepuscule With Nellie is much better to listen to than the distant stereo composite). Cheers, Reinier
  24. Yes, Son of.... especially if you like jazz and trombone and sax and rhythm section!!!! Reinier
  25. Hello all, my Japanese 20 Bit Digital K2 reissue of Monk's Music has one track in strereo (the last alternate) the rest is straight mono (not so strange for a 1957 recording). But the new Fantasy SACD reissue is completely stereo! Was this also the case with the older OJC reissue? Or did they find the complete Stereo reel for the fisrt time. They sure didn't tell anybody about it if this is the case . The Gil Evans SACD was a first time stereo on SACD but there it was told to the customer. Cheers, Reinier
