  1. I was motivated to quit when my wife was pregnant, but I knew I couldn't just quit cold turkey. I needed some aid to help me quit, and this was before the patches, gums, etc. My solution was acupuncture- I went for three sessions as a human pincushion in a week, and the acupuncture did a lot to greatly reduce the physical cravings. There is also a tea called 'Smoker's tea' that has lobelia root in it. Lobelia root is supposed to be chemically similar to nicotine, so it satisfies some aspect of craving without creating another addiction. I had my last smoke on 2/12/92, so I'm a little over 13 years now. JP, whatever works for you to quit is worth it. If you have any financial interests, put enough money into a jar every day that represents what you spend per day on smokes and think of that whenever you want to light up. GOOD LUCK!

  5. You are now spoiled and regular seats will never be as good anymore. I went through the same thing- after years of upper deck & mezz seats, a guy on my job got me seats for a Yankee game that were in the 8th row between third base & home. I can't get used to seats for normal folks now.
  6. My parents liked 'easy listening' and I remember watching Lawrence Welk and the Ed Sullivan show(Beatles, Stones,Doors and tons of godawful music!). When I was about 9 or 10(1965-66) my two sisters started to play folk music for me and also some acoustic blues, so I got a solid dose of Bob Dylan(banned by my father because he hated the way Dylan sang!), Dave VanRonk, Peter Paul & Mary, Son House, etc. Around 11-12 I got into rock and electric blues along with my sisters. Around 16 I started on jazz and everyone hated it except me!
  7. Was it bought by Mr. Ant himself?! 4000+?! WTF?!
  8. That was really moving and somewhat disturbing- thanks for the link Chandra.
  9. Here's a link that may be useful: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g60763-N...ork-Hotels.html I always see commercials for the Milford Plaza- I have no idea if it's any good or not since I live in NYC, but try them and see what rates they have.
  10. Considering that we are talking Booty People, we have to have a BIG ASS meteor.
  11. You did great! Those are four excellent discs- enjoy them.
  12. Weekend wrapup: Friday as always, I made pizza. Saturday was chicken pieces rubbed with sage leaves and cooked with garlic, shallots, lemon juice & salt & pepper. Mushrooms sauteed with shallots and sherry to accompany. Sunday was salmon with ginger & freshly ground pepper and zucchini ribbons sauteed in sage butter with a bit of lime juice on top. Tonight was burgers and a green salad.
  13. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. There was actual depth of character, nobody was blown to bits and there were no car chases. How remarkable these days-a movie that tells a story and is about people. What a concept!
  14. I've also seen 'Royal Flush', 'Johnny on the Spot'...
  15. I didn't see what happened with Sheffield, but fans should not interfere with the play or touch or strike a player, and players should never go into the standsor go after fans. Most of the Bosox agreed with what Sheffield did, FWIW, and I think fans at games need to take a massive 'chill pill'. Too many are getting ripped at games and then acting like numbskulls. I won't take my 12year old son to a nght game because there is so much drunkeness resulting in idiotic behavior. I offer no solutions here, but this is not limited to baseball or even to sports. We have teachers beaten up for giving kids failing grades, etc etc.
  16. Brooklyn might be a good location for you. There are still some cheap rents to be had in some decent parts of Brooklyn, and almost everywhere in Brooklyn is either walking distance or a short bus ride(free transfer) to the subway. You could try to get a job at my son's school(Andres Hudde JHS). I have absolutely no pull or influence at the school, but they do have a large number of gifted programs and my son is getting a great education there. If you're looking in any specific area in Brooklyn, send me a PM and I'll tell you what I know of the area. I'm a lifetime Brooklynite.
  17. I had a lot of fun and I hope we do this again. It was great to actually meet the people who post. 7/4 does not look like Pharoah Sanders(his old avatar), 'Maren' in no way resembles a leaf, Guy Berger didn't punch anybody, Catesta does not look like a bottlecap, Skeith? I forgot what his avatar is. Chris A, we'll even head up to your neck of the woods next time, as I would love to meet you. So let's not wait a lonnng time before we do this again. P.S. The beer was excellent!!! The company was excellent!!!
  18. I'm looking for any cds by Moussa Doumbia. One cut on a compilation has me positively salivating for more. does anyone know of any good websites, etc. for African music in the Afropop & related realm? Thanks much for any help anyone can provide.
  19. YEOWWWWWWWWW! geez, do ya think she means it?
  20. There are TWO incredibly dumb things at work here, the playoff/World Series(Side note- who holds the record for 'post-season' HRs? Dave Justice!!! Mantle hit 18 WS HRs.) merging, and that there's something wrong after 7 games. Should we have also buried the Mets when they started 0-5? Fer cryin' out loud, they play 162 games. You can't reasonably judge after 7 games.
  21. And if you take the 'F' train(I work by Rockefeller Center, so I will), you get off near another landmark- Downtown Music Gallery! If 400,000+ people show up, it rains like mad, etc. can we call it Catestastock?
  22. Sometimes it comes down to how many can I get for --- dollars. Sometimes one or two stand out, then it's eeny-miney-mo time...
  23. Me too! I'm always interested in Indian music. Here's a thread I started recently: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=18551&hl=tabla Me three! Welcome to the board Hang around here and you'll forget more than many people ever knew about music. Tell us what you like, too, in Hindi & Urdu music. If I'm not mistaken, EKE BBB knows a lot of music from the '20s- you might want to PM him.
  24. I bought it yesterday, and the third cut, by Moussa Doumbia, knocks my socks off! You can tell that he's listened to his James Brown with some of the sounds he makes, but he's also got the psychedelic thing in there too. My appetite has now been whetted and I want to get some more recordings by Moussa Doumbia. Does anyone have a good source, can anyone post a link to somewhere in cyberspace where they specialize in this stuff? I've tried Ebay, Dusty(the bastards!), and a few others, and they all come up blank. If anyone has a link, etc. please post it. Thanks much in advance.
  25. I'll be there- I'm looking forward to meeting you folks!
