  1. Catesta, It sounds like a little squirt of lemon might go very nicely on the finished product.
  2. If you don't know how to cook, learn! When I was 25/26 and broke as hell, my cooking ability made that last $5 for food last a few days and taste decent to boot. If you can cook, it helps stretch the food budget greatly. Can you do any tutoring work on the side? This may help to increase your income somewhat. Above all, HANG IN THERE and keep in mind that your present situation is not permanent- it will improve.
  3. JazzKat, Summer is approaching, and in NYC that means lots of free gigs in parks, etc. that are open to everyone. Get hold of the Village Voice weekly and check the listings- Celebrate Brooklyn is every summer in Prospect Park, there's usually a few shows at Rumsey Playground in Central Park, various other shows in some downtown Manhattan parks, etc. J&R usually sponsors something late in the summer at City Hall Park- hunt around, there's a lot of good stuff out there.
  4. Good Luck, Jim, and if you have any cds available or upcoming I'm interested.
  5. Now that's a creepy basket if it has liver & onions in it!
  6. Jazzkat, When you check out WBGO on the web(wbgo.org, I think), also give a listen to WKCR. They don't always have jazz on, but they do have some great jazz programs. If you search around here, there's at least two threads about WKCR in the lat month.
  7. Wow. Custom-made too.... How many people order the 14" one?
  8. I posted that Organissimo are groovemeisters. Hope you get the gig!
  9. Minew, Thanks so much for tips from a resident. Give me more detail-I'm soakin' it in!
  10. Hello all, I'm going to New Orleans the week of 7/16-7/22. I know it will be hot as Hades, but I can only go when school is out for my son. Does anybody have recommendations, sights to see, restaurants, clubs, etc? Thanks loads in advance.

  12. Has anyone suggested Eddie Jefferson yet?
  13. Where is that barfing smilie when I need it-YUCK!!!
  14. Maybe MLB is starting to deal with steroids effectively- I hope so, but MLB has spent 10 years deying any problems while some players have become, uh, 'inflated'. They should also test for Human Growth Hormone- some of those denying steroid use may have been using HGH. Chandra is on the right track to be skeptical, MLB has been busy denying the presence of the elephant in the room.
  15. I saw it about 30 times when my son was about 2 years old. At that age, repetition rules!
  16. The VHS of the movie is still lurking around my house somewhere. The release date was 1995. My then 3-year old boy loved it dearly.
  17. In general, the older you are when you begin to learn a language the more difficult the task. Very young children are mutilingual easily, while for adults it is a lot more difficult. Is Finnish a Germanic language? I'm trying to understand what language it might sound like. The type of language can also make it more difficult to learn. Good luck with it.
  18. Housing prices have gone up a lot in the last few years, but Brooklyn is great. I've lived here all my life and I love it. Easy access to Manhattan from almost anywhere in the borough, fresh mozzarella, plent of parks, fresh mozzarella, food from almost anywhere on the planet, fresh mozzarella, 4 seasons, fresh mozzarella, neighborhoods, fresh mozzarella, etc. Best of luck wherever you wind up. I did spend Labor Day weekend in Philly and liked it very much. They also have...fresh mozzarella!
  19. Saturday was Salmon Teriyaki & Coconut Shrimp(New recipe, very good) with spinach sauteed in EV olive oil with lotsa garlic. Sunday was pork chops with a dry Cajun spice rub and some olive salad. OLIVE SALAD 1 small jar green olives with pimiento 1 small jar roasted peppers 2 pieces celery 1 clove garlic 4 tablespoons flat leaf parsley olive oil red wine vinegar Chop olives coarsely, chop everything else fine(minced). Mix with oil and vinegar, add salt, pepper & cayenne pepper. Let it sit for about 20 minutes. Eat & enjoy. Today was chicken, broccolli, string beans & red pepper stir-fried in my FLAT-BOTTOMED WOK with garlic, onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, red chili paste & coconut milk. never tried all of this at once, results were outstanding!
  20. I don't shop there online because I can actually visit, but check out J&R- they have a lot of good deals.
  21. THIS CAN ONLY MEAN THAT THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, there's been a lot of that lately! I really do hope that Brownie and Deus/Dizzy return eventually... everybody has a right to walk away for awhile (for whatever reason) without creating an uproar, but obviously they are much liked and much-missed around this joint. Hello there! I'm taking some time off from the Board. Enjoying life plus the gorgeous Spring weather B-) Can't believe that Berigan and Christern are shaking hands Will be back soon! I have got too many friends here! Greetings to all! This crowd's the Best Nice to see you back, Brownie- when you tell some of those stories about the many musicians you've encountered, I'm all ears. Please write a book- I'll buy it.
  22. It may be a putrid pile of offal, but how does it compare with such classics as 'Barney's Christmas', 'Pokemon III' or 'Power Rangers- the Movie'
  23. Also by JB, 'Love Power & Peace' - good for clearing the cobwebs(Play at high volume!)
  24. Great news! Now go and knock 'em out! (Wish I could be there)
  25. This recipe turned out DAMN good, by the way. I must have gotten lucky and timed it just right. Crispy skin (not for long after I tipped the chicken in the juices by accident), only a tiny hint of the heat of the chiles, and tender meat. It doesn't taste like Coke at all. This one is a definite keeper! Careful handling those habaneros- I once was chopping some, then washed my hands and thought I got all of it off. Then I took a leak, and it felt like somebody dropped ben-Gay in my shorts!(flaming smilie)
