  1. Like Paul, I couldn't get into this session. I can't really pinpoint why exactly — I guess the music just seems really lazy to me, and well...boring. I'm a huge soul-jazz fan, but this session just never did it for me.
  2. I would also include "Coffey", "Foxy Brown" and "Black Caesar" in my list of dope soundtracks.
  3. Tom... You can actually get into that Herbie album? I hate it!!!! It did absolutely nothing for me. Just my opinion, though.
  4. I had the Mosaic at one time, and from listening to it repeatedly it was readily apparent that Brooks was an incredibly soulful player that could hold his own with many of the giants on tenor. I would actually discourage single disc purchases of his output and push you towards the Mosaic as it's sound was beautiful to me. Either way, you can't wrong though. Tina Brooks is slick!
  5. Can anyone comment on the Johnny Lytle album "Nice & Easy" with Bobby Timmons?
  6. Just interested in hearing everyone's favorites. My personal favs include: — Brother on the Run — Superfly — Blacula
  7. Lon, You're correct! Thanks for the heads-up.
  8. Open to offers for this title. I've never seen it around before, so I'm not sure what the going rate on it is, nor do I care. An OJC or two might suffice. Always looking for soul-jazz titles.
  9. "Songs of Innocence" "Songs of Experience" $11 each, or both for $20. S/H is $3 each. Paypal only, please.
  10. "Everything I do is gonna be funky" and "Simba". These look tasty for the grease mongers amongst us. A truly underated artist in the mold of Boogaloo Jones and Phil Upchurch. Comment if you will.
  11. No impulse needed...if you have a simple pulse this disc will accelerate it instantly! Scoop it...fast...and keep it for yourself.
  12. www.musicselection.com The orders take about a month to process, but it does work and shipping is only $1 per disc. I've bought many rarities through this site and gotten all of them. The Washington is 20.68. Prices have gone up, but still a bargain! And who says I'm not a nice guy.
  13. I bought this for $17.10 two months ago and can get more copies at any time. The supplier I use told me he can offer me up to ten at a time. Go figure.
  14. I have the single Japanese version of the "Burner" by Holloway with Patton...great album!
  15. I thought I might resurrect this thread as I noticed Red Trumpet is selling the CD for $20.24. I've never heard it personally, but as these kats say it's a must-have! FYI, Dustygroove is no longer stocking this album.
  16. Red Trumpet still have that Doug Carn Savoy session for $26.99. I'm seriously considering getting that. From what I remember, this was a very enjoyable sesssion.
  17. I'd put Charles Earland ahead of Leon Spencer on my list of funk organists, though Spencer is definately bad!!!
  18. The music on those Acid Jazz comps. are terrific, but the design of the booklets are just horrible!
  19. You can get that Doug Carn on Savoy from Dustygroove (though they're sold out). I've also heard it's nice. Another few to consider: Charles Kynard "Professor Soul" Sonny Phillips "Sho' Nuff/Black Magic" twofer
  20. For those interested in Harold Alexander, and Jazz Funk in general, you should check out "Sunshine Man" on Flying Dutchman. While it might not be everyone's cup of tea, it's certainly mine and it has a nice steady groove. No new ground broken here, but for those interested in the genre, I would probably rank it as important, but not essential.
  21. Here's my picks... Freddie Roach "The Soul Book/Mocha Motion" twofer, but originally released on Prestige. These SMOKE! Also, Red Holloway's "The Burner" with John Patton. Maybe even, Lonnie Smith's "Mama Wailer" on Kudu.
  22. Are there any that don't get much mention but groove just as hard as any of the heavyweights that are usually discussed on the board?
  23. Sundays at 9 EST on NBC. SVU is on Tuesdays at 10 EST. The original is on Wednesdays at 10 EST.
  24. Man...tough choice!!!! Angie Harmon, I think. Mind you, I love how they killed off Jill Hennesey.
