  1. What's everyone's thoughts on this album? It looks greazzzy!!! Patton, Dixon & Green?!?! Surely, it must be a burner!
  2. Anybody looking for this title to fill their collection? If so, $10 (S/H included).
  3. Looks like the reissue, but nonetheless this was most recently released as a twofer and I'm not even sure it's still in print. If anyone's interested, message me and we'll work out a trade. I'm only interested in CDs of the soul-jazz genre. They had a $20 price on it, so I'll be looking for the equivlant.
  4. Anyone need this title? Make an offer. Otherwise, $10 (S/H included). Paypal only or Dustygroove gift certificate only, please.
  5. "Fresh Cream" (Polydor UICY - 2367 with OBI) $17 "Disraeli Gears" (UICY - 2368 with OBI) $17 Or both for $30. S/H is $3, or $5 for both. Paypal only, please.
  6. Fred Jackson "Hootin' and Tootin" Harold Vick "Steppin' Out" Red Holloway "The Burner" Lou Donaldson "Good Gracious" Grassella Oliphant "Grass is Greener" Lonnie Smith "Move Your Hand" Grant Green "Alive!" Too many to name! I haven't bothered with Patton albums, not to mention many of Grant Green's dates. Refer to the "Keepin' it Greazy" thread for more details on important soul jazz sessions that you must hear.
  7. Does it remove the scratches?
  8. Anyone looking for this title? I spotted it today.
  9. Paul, I'd cancel that order...if he's ordering through that site and trying to make money off it, forget about it. I'd use musicselection. They're reliable and have filled every order of mine except 2! $1 S/H is pretty hard to beat as well.
  10. The mystery that surrounds this album is what I believe generates much of the hype. While I don't propose that this album is bad, it wasn't quite up to what I expected. The playing is a bit off for my tastes from what I remember (I've owned the TOCJ twice)...and unless you've heard it first, I wouldn't recommend paying the inflated prices (including that which I sold it for..) for a mediocre date. There's much better in the Blue Note catalogue than this one...get through them first!
  11. That was me two years ago. I'm glad it isn't anymore. When I win my $25 million I will revert back to my old ways!
  12. I'm still going with the Blue Notes. While the dissenting opinions aren't falling on deaf ears, I'm a big fan of bluesy jazz...Texas Twister will come later, though not too late! I'm also back into George Braith...what goes around comes around I guess.
  13. I pick Lonnie Smith "Move Your Hand".
  14. It all depends where your tastes lie. If you're strictly into hardbop then you probably won't appreciate what CTI was doing. If, however, you like soul-jazz and jazz funk then these albums are for you. I'd probably recommend your start with the Hubbard and Turrentine discs and stay away from the Patti Austin disc. The Milt Jackson is a classic for this label, and the Desmond discs are also very good. Also, I wouldn't really recommend the Ron Carter disc. If I recall there were strings on this session (it may be another one...). Either way, it's not up too par! Too bad it wasn't "All Blues"!
  15. Interesting to know, and dare I say TYPICAL of a small label with no money.
  16. There was some goodies too.
  17. Collecting vinyl nearly made me broke! It was fun buying and trading, but, ultimately, I found I was taking away from the music. Towards the end, I had bought so much that I just didn't have anough time to listen to any of it. Add to the fact that my girlfriend is anti-music buying, and this created plenty of tension in my household. Hence, I decided to sell everything off. While the majority of it was funk/soul/80s rap LPs, there was a large majority of them that were worth ALOT of money. I don't regret it, however, since I've found much of the stuff on CD again. Still, I find listening to LPS like listening to box sets — tiring.
  18. Soul Stream — AMEN! Now that's just my kinda preachin'!
  19. Just what I wanted to hear! I'll take the plunge. I'm a grease addict!
  20. While it isn't likely, I figured I might try. Anyone have this one available?
  21. While it is often expensive, I just got an order filled for John Patton "Boogaloo" for $10.99. In many cases, you can find your rarities there.
  22. What is everyone's impression of his Blue Note output? Ignore the complete sessions and focus only on the individual albums. Are they strong soul-jazz dates?
  23. Since I'm only 24, it wasn't all that long ago. But I do believe I started getting into jazz when I worked at a used cd store here in the city and my first disc was Adderley's "Somethin' else". That was approximately 5 years ago.
  24. WOW Just repurchased that "Doug Carn Trio" disc. This album has got a terrific groove to it...I wouldn't put it up here with Patton, but I'll tell you this...the album reminds me of Grant Green sides from this same period, though slightly less funky! A worthwhile pick-up for anyone into greaze! Thanks again, Jim!
  25. Charles Rouse "Two is One" — essential!
