  1. I'm not certain if this has been mentioned in this lengthy thread. But I came across this when I saw it mentioned on the VSOP Records thread. The obvious ones like Conte Candoli, Frank Rossolino, Mel Lewis, Richie Kamuca, Marty Paich, Art Pepper, Herbie Harper usually garner the attention. This date lead by guitarist Dempsey Wright features Richie Kamuca, Victor Feldman, Ben Tucker and Stan Levey. A real nice session I believe people should take a look at especially if you enjoy West Coast Jazz from the 1950's. A real nice surprise for me.
  2. I don't normally have Saturdays off from work. That said I want to plug this excellent program hosted by Ken Poston. Today his focus for 3 hours was on the music of Gerry Mulligan. Well done show. A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to hear his program on Atlas Records. His program airs from 7 am to 10 am Pacific time. 10 am to 1 pm eastern time on Saturdays. Mark this program on your music calendar. https://www.jazz88.org/
  3. I own both the Shank and Mulligan Mosaics. Both fine sets.
  4. I actually made purchase of the Scott release from the recent obscurities thread. I really enjoy this release. Some good musicians on this date too. A few releases I've been looking at recently which I haven't seen prior discussion that I would enjoy hearing input on are as follows: Jazz Mission to Moscow Plus Soviet Jazz Themes & Jazz at Liberty. Top U.S. Jazzmen During the Cold War 1962- 1963 Art Pepper Live At Donte's 1968
  5. I dug up this old thread mainly because I've been interested in acquiring some of there titles. The Compositions of Bobby Scott and the Benny Bailey In Sweden are just two recent purchases I've made. I've already taken notes of some of the suggestions in this very lengthy thread for future purchases. I can't say if anyone might be interested in reviving this thread. But I would certainly welcome peoples input since 6 years have passed since the last posting.
  6. Thanks guys. That works for me.
  7. I have a feeling this is a Fresh Sound release and a cd. Still I'm going to pose this question to those who enjoy the Ellington Indigos release. What do you think?https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WJRJ22/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1BIMNAHK0TY8D&colid=1KDG9H84FVIM7
  8. For some reason, I didn't own this prior to my very recent visit to San Diego. I came across a used record store in O.B.(Ocean Beach) that carried a pretty respectable jazz section. Got this along with a few other discs at a very reasonable price. Yeah, some very good Sonny here.
  9. Now or never for the Mobley. One of my favorite Mosaics.
  10. Wow! Somebody needs to snatch that right up.
  11. Happy Birthday, TD. I hope you had a great day.
  12. Goes without sayin'.
  13. I guess you can file this one under learn something new every day. I never knew Bud Shank played the flute solo on the Mamas and Papas " California Dreamin' " I imagine all you guys knew that already, huh?
  14. Hey I'm a huge fan anyway. Anything the man put down, I enjoy.
  15. Saw them tour with Dylan many years ago. A very good show. I enjoyed much of his music over the years, Saddened to come across the news earlier today. It sucks getting older.
