I hope the Rangers win and make this an interesting WS. I don't want to see a sweep.

Don't talk to me about 1993. I'm a bit older, a Yankee fan, and I recall pacing like crazy watching the 9th inning of the final game when Willie McCovey finally ended it by smashing a line drive to Bobby Richardson, the Yankee 2nd baseman, with men on 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs bottom of the 9th, score 1-0. A true game of inches. The Yanks had scored the only run much earlier when the Giants conceded the run in order to turn a double play in a bases loaded, no out situation. Closest WS in history. The teams alternated victories, i.e., Yanks won games 1, 3, 5, 7, Giants won 2, 4, 6. I recall reading the NY papers the following day in which several Yanks admitted that the Giant team was their equal and the Series could just as easily gone the other way. That's incredible. Rangers have a tough row to hoe. Not impossible to comeback but the Giants are on a serious roll right now. Good luck.

How did the Rangers make it to the WS w/ that pen?? Yikes.
-
And that's why the Giants will win this series. Way better bullpen.
-
Well the Rangers just scored two runs. 8-4 now. Some pitcher's duel, eh?
-
So how much did Lee's FA value go down tonight?
-
Well this O'Day guy has been a disaster.
-
OK and I want Uribe in red pinstripes too! I'm changing my prediction from Giants in 6 to Giants in 5.
-
Man. If we can't get Werth to re-sign I want Ross in red pinstripes next season.
-
Cody FUCKING Ross. AGAIN.
-
He looked great up until that error by Michael Young. Then his pitch count spiraled out of control.

Book it: Cliff Lee will not sign with the Yankees this winter and will in all likelihood remain a Ranger, even if Texas doesn't win the World Series. Note the "Rangers or Yankees?" part of that article. Yes, reprehensible Yankee fan behavior (though behavior of a kind certainly not restricted to New York), but it's everything else that's mentioned about Lee's current circumstances that confirms for me the hunch I've had for the past couple of months that culture and geography are going to play as big a part in his decision as money. If Texas can make an offer that's even remotely competitive with what the Yankees put forward, it's over. Some of us have been saying the same thing.... Oh mi god, we signed Jeter! Unbelievable Seriously, players go where the money is. That's all that matters to most of them. This is Lee's big chance and maybe only one for a huge payout. He will go with the team that offers that, plus can be competitive. When discussing contracts we need to divorce emotions and keep it at dollars and cents. You go where the money is. This may be cynical but true. I think there's a good chance he stays in Texas especially if they beat the Yankees. I don't think money will be the deciding factor. I think there will be other factors as well. Did you see how he jumped into Molina's arms when they clinched in Tampa last week? The dude definitely likes it there. And then there's the closeness to his family in Arkansas as opposed to NYC. Also just looking at the make up of the the Yankees and the Rangers - would you want to be on a team w/ an aging core group of players or with one that is still relatively youngish?? One window is closing the other one seems to be open for awhile longer. Anyway, it's not like he hasn't been getting paid in his current contract. He's making $9 million this year alone. Last year before the asshat GM in Philly traded him to Seattle. He was working out a contract extension w/ the Philies. After the trade was announced he said in an interview that he wanted to stay in Philly, wanted to finish his career here, and that the trade caught him completely off guard. So it would appear that money isn't the only factor motivating him. I think if Texas can find the money, I say $100 million or thereabouts, he stays. Not all players go for the most money though. Mauer, Tony Gwynn, Puckett are (or were) a few examples where each could have gotten even more money elsewhere. Look at Doc Halladay. He gave the Phillies a discount because he wanted a chance to go the postseason.

I'm torn over who to root for in the WS. On one hand I want Cliff Lee to get a ring so we Philly fans can feel even more righteous in our anger(justified)towards the dumb ass GM we have here in Philly that traded Lee away for 3 toilet flushes. OTOH, I want the NL champs to beat the crap out the representatives from the junior circuit. Hell, SF deserves it. They knocked off everyone's pick to win it all and they've been waiting for over 50 years. It's time. Edit: would also like to see Josh Hamilton get a ring. Dude has been to Hell and back.

Thanks, JH. Been a long hard road. My hat is off to the Phillies. A job well done. SF was the one team that scared me this season. For some reason they just match up really well against the Phillies. Hard to believe that team of castoffs is now 4 wins away from the championship. And to think they made the playoffs on the last day of the season. Quite a run and I have a feeling it's not over for you guys yet. Enjoy the ride. Rooting for your team in the WS is a pretty special experience. Oh and a bottle of Tums near the TV is a must.

Congrats to SF. Your team outplayed the Phillies this week. So long Jayson Werth.

Go Texas!!!

Damn. That DP was the game right there.

That's a smart move. Hopefully it backfires.
