Cool. Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to get it. Seeing how the master tapes are AWOL I guess it's the best we're gonna get.

Statement from Phillies on Chase Utley http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/patelladisorders/a/chondromalacia.htm

Utley has been injury prone the last couple of seasons. I'm starting to think that he could be another Nomar. A great, great player early in his career but one that was slowed by injuries as he entered his 30's. Brown's injury might be a blessing in disguise. He's not ready for the big leagues. Before he got the hit that he injured himself on, he had gone 0 for 15 this spring w/ 9 strike outs. Yikes. This way he get's to heal, go back to AAA ball and get some much needed experience(he hasn't played 175 games yet in the minors, and most of that was in A or AA), and correct his swing - which would have been impossible to do in the Bigs. The raw talent is there in abundance. He just needs to learn the game. I know the Phillies have the great starting rotation, but are they really going to be that much better than the Braves? I think the Braves are going to have a very good team this year, so it's not going to be a cakewalk for the Phillies this year. Oh it will definitely be a fight. I still think the road to the NL East crown goes through Philly.

Too bad you didn't post this over the weekend. I just saw Marshall Allen play on Sunday night and Danny Thompson was selling copies of it. You might try emailing Greg Drusdow. drusdow AT verizon.net -
Dang. Chase Utley's knee is hurting. Hasn't played at all this Spring. He had a MRI on his knee last week that revealed no structural damage but apparently he has Patella tendinitis. Right now the Phillies are just resting him hoping it will clear up on its own. But from what I hear surgery is likely. You know it has to be bad case of tendinitis because that dude always plays hurt. Edit: he had a cortisone injection in his knee over the weekend. Hmm....

All-Star Benefit Concert for Odean Pope Time - Monday, March 21 · 7:00pm - 10:00pm Location - Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz On March 21 at the Clef Club, jazz luminaries will unite for a benefit concert for Philadelphia saxophonist and composer Odean Pope. A vital fixture of Philadelphia’s jazz community since the 1960s, this concert will raise funds for Pope, who has struggled with Bipolar Disorder for 30 years. “I am extremely grateful for all the support,” said Odean Pope. “I've been struggling with Bipolar Disorder for many years and think I final...ly have it under control. I have finally realized it can be helped like any other illness. For those of you who feel ashamed and may be part of this arena - there is help for you too.” Performing tonight will be the Odean Pope Saxophone Choir, Sonia Sanchez, Ravi Coltrane, Kenny Barron, Pat Martino Trio, Gerald Veasley, Warren Oree & The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble, Reggie Workman, Jamalaadeen Tacuma, Walter Blanding, Duane Eubanks, Willie Williams, Warren Smith, Tony Williams, Bobby Zankel, Justin Faulkner, Carlos Abadie, Monnette Sudler, Bootsie Barnes, George Burton and the Philadelphia Youth Jazz Ensemble. Born in North Carolina in 1938, Pope relocated to Philadelphia 10 years later and began his music career performing with Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown, frequently at Philadelphia’s Uptown Theater. In the 1960s, Pope performed with Jimmy McGriff and Max Roach, building a strong relationship with the latter that led to decades of international touring and recording. In the late-1970s, Pope formed Catalyst, a funk-infused jazz quartet with Philadelphia-based musicians Eddie Green, Sherman Ferguson, and Al Johnson. While continuing as a soloist with Roach, in the early-1980s Pope began working more as a band leader, most notably with Odean Pope Saxophone Choir and Odean Pope Trio. A pioneering educator and mentor who has worked with the Philadelphia Model Cities program and the Settlement Music School, Pope continues to compose and perform music at the intersections of hard-bop, swing, and free jazz, steadily seeking new musical possibilities and directions. About his most recent album, Odean’s List, All About Jazz’s Troy Collins wrote that it “is a compelling reminder of Pope’s relevance as a composer and improviser, one whose talent deserves greater recognition.”

Blue balls -- not what you think
Chalupa replied to Larry Kart's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
We've been using them for a few years. Small caveat - they start to disintegrate after few months. We actually use anywhere from 4 to 6 balls per load. -
"New Braxton House Records will be releasing two album-length downloads per month, with material ranging from recent Ghost Trance Music concerts to rare recordings from the 1970s, from solo saxophone recitals to orchestra performances. The label's initial release will be a Sextet (Philadelphia) 2005, a double album-length performance from Braxton's long-time working ensemble featuring the composer on saxophones, with Taylor Ho Bynum (brass), Jessica Pavone (viola), Jay Rozen (tuba), Carl Testa (bass), and Aaron Siegel (percussion)." I was at this show. Good times.

Super.

The Phillies staff seems to have figured him out. For the past 3 seasons he's gone 15 for 72 for a .208 avg. with 2 homers and 8 RBI. That said the Cardinals were DUMB for not locking him up years ago. I'd trade our first baseman for him in a heartbeat.

You're kidding, right? The Giants are the team to beat. They have the best pitching staff in baseball. Their much maligned offense plays in one the toughest hitter's parks in MLB. Additionally they will have a full season of Buster Posey at the plate not a 1/2.
