Hey Goodie - FYI - it was Sanchez who did the whining when Utley tossed the ball back to the mound. Why can't McCarver pronounce any Latino's last names correctly???

I would like to see a salary cap for baseball. It's worked for the NFL. However, I think they should also have a salary floor. It's not fair that teams who are getting money from luxury tax/revenue sharing are not re-investing that money into making their team better. A cap will probably never happen though, not because of the Steinbrenners - as many seem to think, but because of the opposition from the player's union.

I think the Giants finish it tonight vs. the Fightin's. The Phillies, unlike the Giants and Cody FUCKIN' Ross, just have not shown up this series. Sanchez, game #2 notwithstanding, owns the Phils. I think it would be asking too much of the baseball gods to defeat him twice in the NLCS. I may have to revisit my WS prediction of SF in 6 after seeing the Rangers dismantle the Yanks. But I think the Giants have the pitching edge and that means everything at this time of year. Pretty crazy that a team like the Rangers that has 1/4 of the payroll of the Yankees can beat them so soundly. Watch for the Rangers' payroll to JUMP exponentially next season if they re-sign Lee, which I think they will. Don't underestimate the draw of being a "Yankees killer" in the negotiations. It worked for the Red Sox when they were trying to sway Schilling. And everyone - please pray that the next time MLB's TV contract is up for grabs someone other than FOX gets it so we can finally be done with Joe Buck and McCarver.

Remember during the 2008 WS how bad it rained in Philly before Selig had them suspend the game?? That was insane.

Tracey's African music recordings now on display JOHANNESBURG – Hugh Tracey came to southern Africa in the 1920s to become a tobacco farmer but ended up compiling the largest known archive of traditional African music, recording performers from Congo to Zimbabwe over nearly five decades. Now hundreds of CDs featuring Tracey's recordings are on exhibition in South Africa along with traditional instruments he collected from across the continent, from Malawian gourd resonators to ingalaba drums played in Uganda. The Hugh Tracey archives are a valuable resource that could contribute to dignity and restoration of African culture, said Luvuyo Dontsa, an arts and culture professor at Walter Sisulu University in South Africa. "White colonialists saw our music as being heathen and they tried to kill it because they did not understand our culture. The recordings of Hugh Tracey are a valuable resource that could explain the missing parts of our culture," says Dontsa. More...

I'm gonna have a serious ulcer after this NLCS.

Not even close. With Halladay and Hamels locked up for the next 3 years and Oswalt for 2 they should still be a lock for the postseason. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that they are going to turn into this decade's version of the 1990's Atlanta Braves - always the bridesmaid never the bride. Howard's seen his production fall but it's not as bad as you may think. Remember he was on the DL for close to 3 weeks this season. And while his contract looks like a potential albatross in 2010 baseball economics who knows what it will look like 5 years from now? We might be saying,"Wow $25 million per for Ryan Howard? What a bargain!" Though I tend to agree with you in that the fuckwad GM in Philly probably out smarted himself on that extension. What scares me the most about Howard is that he has just not shown up in October 2009/10. WTF? The Phillies will miss Werth's right handed power bat in a lefty dominated lineup. However, they will not miss his abysmal 10 for 72 with RISP w/ 2 outs. That works out to a .138 avg. - dead last in the NL. If Domonic Brown is as good as advertised they'll miss Werth even less.

Oh mi god, we signed Jeter! Unbelievable Seriously, players go where the money is. That's all that matters to most of them. This is Lee's big chance and maybe only one for a huge payout. He will go with the team that offers that, plus can be competitive. When discussing contracts we need to divorce emotions and keep it at dollars and cents. You go where the money is. This may be cynical but true. I think there's a good chance he stays in Texas especially if they beat the Yankees. I don't think money will be the deciding factor. I think there will be other factors as well. Did you see how he jumped into Molina's arms when they clinched in Tampa last week? The dude definitely likes it there. And then there's the closeness to his family in Arkansas as opposed to NYC. Also just looking at the make up of the the Yankees and the Rangers - would you want to be on a team w/ an aging core group of players or with one that is still relatively youngish?? One window is closing the other one seems to be open for awhile longer. Anyway, it's not like he hasn't been getting paid in his current contract. He's making $9 million this year alone. Last year before the asshat GM in Philly traded him to Seattle. He was working out a contract extension w/ the Philies. After the trade was announced he said in an interview that he wanted to stay in Philly, wanted to finish his career here, and that the trade caught him completely off guard. So it would appear that money isn't the only factor motivating him. I think if Texas can find the money, I say $100 million or thereabouts, he stays. Not all players go for the most money though. Mauer, Tony Gwynn, Puckett are (or were) a few examples where each could have gotten even more money elsewhere. Look at Doc Halladay. He gave the Phillies a discount because he wanted a chance to go the postseason.

I hate Joe Buck with the intensity 10,000 white hot suns.

Giants over the Rangers in 6. You heard it here first.
-
My God, the Phillies are an embarrassment right now. One dumb play after another. It's like they reverted to the late 90's all over again. Just shoot me now.
-
Man, this series is driving me nuts. The two games(#1 & #3) I thought the Phillies would win they lost and the one(#2) I thought they would lose they won. I think they lose tomorrow.
-
Not the Florida Marlins.
-
Jesus this ump needs some glasses. Wow. Utley. Again. Damn, even w/ a good ump the Phillies would still be 0 for 5 w/ RISP.
-
Oh I see they took the Dew and MAMU from the 23rd and put it on disc 3.
-
Wait a minute. That set list for the disc 1(which I assume is 5/23)doesn't match up w/ what's in circulation. Set 1 Intro (Missing) Hard To Handle (Missing) Morning Dew Me And My Uncle Dark Star -> St. Stephen -> The Eleven -> Turn On Your Love Light (Missing) Ditto for 5/24 Turn On Your Love Light, Doin' That Rag-> He Was A Friend Of Mine-> China Cat Sunflower-> The Eleven-> Death Don't Have No Mercy, Alligator-> Drums-> Saint Stephen-> Feedback-> We Bid You Good Night

Dang. I'm gonna have to get this one.

From ESPN's Jim Caplan's column.... Then came the moment of truth for this band of inexperienced Rangers in the three-quarters-empty ballpark: "Let's go, Rangers!" erupted from a group of red-clad Texans standing in the second deck along the third-base line. Only to be interrupted by a "Cowboys suck" chant -- OK, so some things can't be argued --

Seriously. Ruben Amaro had better hope that the Phillies win it all because I will be leading a crowd w/ pitchforks over to his house if he doesn't. How do pass on Cliff Lee for prospects? That dude is money.
-
Man, Brian Cashman fucked UP by not getting Lee from the Mariners. Of course that non-trade wasn't as bad as the trade that a certain GM, who let Lee go in the first place, made....
-
ESP, on their website, said that he died on October 10th. R.I.P.
-
Nice!

Oh crap. I just found out Sanchez is pitching game #2. That dude OWNS the Phillies. The Giants could sweep this series.
