What live music are you going to see tonight?
Chalupa replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I saw the Dead Milkmen on Friday night and then I saw Merzbow play on Monday. One of 4 USA shows. My ears still ringing even though I was wearing ear plugs. Pretty loud but I think Sunn 0))) is still the loudest. -

Phillies win and wrap up the NL East. Not to mention home field advantage for all of October and, assuming they get that far, November. Doc Halladay has to be the NL CY Young. 21 wins, 9 complete games, 4 shutouts, and oh yeah a perfect game. Led the NL in innings pitched, and as of right now 2nd in strike outs, 2nd in WHIP, and 3rd in ERA. Factoid - The Phillies are only the third team in National League history to appear in the postseason in four consecutive seasons. The Atlanta Braves made 14 straight appearances from 1991-2005 (there were no playoffs in 1994), and the New York Giants made four straight from 1921-24.

Phils beat the Mets tonight and the Braves are losing 6-1 in the bottom of the 7th in Washington. Magic # is 3 and if the Braves lose it will be 2. Speaking of the Mets.... They are 0-67 this season when trailing after the 8th inning. 0-67. That's brutal. Berigan - what's up w/ the Braves?? I'm thinking they are going to miss the playoffs altogether.

They still play it after every game now. The other night when I went to the Braves game Roy Halladay had "Good Times Bad Times" by Led Zeppelin as his batting music. Utley had them play "Kashmir".

I dunno. The Phillies have some pretty loud bats in the line-up. I mean, that team is stacked. As to the Giants pitching staff: Bumgarner is looking pretty sharp, as well. It's the bullpen I worry about. They have a "maybe he will, maybe he won't" closer in Wilson and they've had some some pretty scary meltdowns via the middle relief this season, too. So we wait and see. Yeah, the Giants are the only team right now that I'm worried about in the NL. 3 of their top 4 starting pitchers are lefties and vs. the lefty heavy lineup of the Phillies that ain't good. Of the 4, Sanchez scares me the most. Hopefully if they do meet up it will be in a 7 game series not 5 because those could be some great, nay, EPIC pitching match ups. How about them Fightin's??? Oswalt, w/ a little help from Madson & Lidge, tosses a 1 hit shut out to complete a sweep of the Braves. Oswalt's ERA w/ the Phillies is now 1.76. 6 up w/ 9 to play. Magic number is 4. I'm taking my 6yr old son to the game on Saturday night. It will be his first game.

Yep, payback time indeed!!!! You know everyone in Philly has been talking about the pitching match ups and how seemingly lopsided they are in favor of the Fightin's. I don't understand why the Braves didn't look at the schedule a few weeks ago and move Hudson and Lowe. Maybe it will work out for them and they will take the next two vs. the Roys but I wouldn't put my money on that happening. Halladay has owned the Braves so far this season and even though he's pitched pretty poorly of late you have to expect him to have a bounce back game tonight throwing on an extra day of rest. As an extra incentive he'll be going for win #20 tonight. Wednesday is Oswalt, who has been lights out in August/September. And then you have to play against the big 3 again for the final 3 games of the season. Additionally, Lidge is starting to look more like 2008 again. He was throwing some nasty, filthy stuff last night. So the Braves have their work cut out for them. Bobby Cox is just like Wile E. Coyote, he's a supppper genius, do not question him! I did see one argument, a weak one, but perhaps Cox thought it was a better idea to sweep the Mets than run the best pitchers with the Phils knowing the Phils still have a better offense, but that's giving Bobby way too much credit, IMO. There was one really questionable move by Cox last night. Top of the 2nd, Phils up 3-0 and the Braves first batter gets on base. Next spot is the pitcher, followed by Omar Infante who is batting .338 and who will probably win the NL battling title. Now 99 out of 100 times when you have a man on first w/ no outs and the pitcher is batting you're going have the pitcher, unless his name is Chris Carpenter, try to lay down a bunt. So what happens? The pitcher tries to hit his way on base and GIDP. WTF??

Ron Mexico LOL!! Totally agree that Reid needs to go. I've been wishing for that for a few years now. I think they should have kept McNabb and fired Reid. This whole McNabb/Kolb/Vick saga is so f'd up and it's all Reid's doing. I wish the Eagles would just own up to the McNabb trade mistake. I mean they trade away McNabb because they thought he was done and that Kolb was going to be the man. In fact they thought so little of DMac's ability that they traded him to a division rival. WTF??? So basically that's like saying,"We think Kolb is better or, will be better in the near future, than McNabb". Which clearly isn't the case or Kolb would be starting. And now they bench him after not even 2 quarters as a starter. Again - WTF??? I never thought Kolb was the answer but this was supposed to be the season when we would finally find out. Doesn't seem like he got a fair chance. And naming Vick as the starter after one game against the Lions D ???

20 sure is harder to do nowadays. It seems you're a wee bit happier about Oswalt now too. Haap pitched great for Houston vs. the Nats tonight, though he got screwed over by the bullpen. The things you notice thanks to playing fantasy, as otherwise who would notice such a matchup? Other than our friend It Should Be You. Yeah, Oswalt has totally outperformed all of my expectations/fears. I'm totally on his bandwagon now. I just hope he can stay healthy. Hamels is pitching better right now than he did in the 2008 post season. If he had pitched like this in the 2009 post season the Phillies could be going for a WS championship three-peat. Outside of his first start, Oswalt has been lights out in red pinstripes. Halladay is the question mark. I'm afraid that he is starting to run out of gas. I hope that the Fightin's can clinch before his next start so he can skip it and get some rest. He's leading the MLB in innings pitched this season. His ERA for September is 4.55. That's more than 2.00 runs higher than his ERA for the month of August.

Wahoo! Got to see Roy Halladay win his 20th tonight. I think that pretty much seals the deal for the NL Cy Young award. Not to mention the NL East. The Fightin's are 5 games up w/ 10 to play. Their magic number is 6. Oh and Oswalt is pitching tomorrow.

Seriously. I just scored a ticket for tonight's game!!!

Wow. Nice comeback win by the Fightin's today. They scored 4 in the 9th, including a two run walk off by Werth, to complete a 3 game sweep of the Nats. From ESPN.... Washington OF Nyjer Morgan invited the fan he was accused of hitting with a ball in August at Citizens Bank Park to the game, according to the Nationals public relation staff. Morgan gave the fan a free ticket behind the Nationals' dugout on Sunday. The two met before the game on the field and Morgan also brought him into the clubhouse to meet his teammates and coaching staff. Nice job by Morgan but it seems a little over the top considering the incident was, ahem,"bogus".

Definitely still ahead of his time. I wonder how different popular music would be today if he had lived. I really think that the music that survives from his last album that he was working on when he died is amazing.

Instant replay sure worked great at the Bears-Lions game last Sunday. I still think there are many instances where it won't do a darn bit of good, such as was the ball trapped or caught in the OF, and the base running that happens following the outcome. I see no "justice" in the NFL limited chances to toss a red flag. Far better to have a system that uses common sense, which failed last Sunday for the NFL. A more elegant solution for some HBP situations would be to make players wear shoes that require polish again. You've got it all wrong friend - it wasn't instant replay that failed the Lions; it was the stupid ass NFL rule book. The refs made the correct call. If anything instant replay confirmed that, according to the rules, it wasn't a touchdown. Keep replay; change the rule. If the LLWS can have instant replay and make it work why can't MLB?

Thanks for the heads up! I'm keeping all of my options open. LOL!! Well with any luck the Wilpons will fire M & M this off season. I think the Mets are closer to contending then their record indicates. I think their starting pitching, assuming Santana can get healthy, is really solid. I'm impressed by the infield of Wright, Reyes, and Davis - those guys are going to be good for a long time to come. The question marks are the BP, catcher, and, to a lesser extent, the outfield. Big holes but ones that can be addressed in FA market.

He's MLB's next Milton Bradley. Two weeks ago here in Philly some fans were heckling him and he got so pissed off he turned around and fired a ball right into the stands. It hit a fan, who by all accounts had not been one of the hecklers, in the head. Lucky for Morgan the fan declined to press charges. What an ass. No, that turned out to be bogus. MLB gives him no suspension at all for the "incident" with the fan, if you can even call it that. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nationalsjournal/2010/09/nyjer_morgan_suspended_eight_g_1.html?hpid=artslot But he IS suspended 8 games for the brawl when the Florida pitcher first hit him and then threw at him again because he stole bases. Wonder what the Florida pitcher gets. That was just terrible and I agreed wholeheartedly with the Nationals manager when he said that the Marlins do not dictate to us when we run and don't run. I'm not sure that because MLB threw out his 7 game suspension that it necessarily follows that the incident was bogus. It has been reported that MLB received numerous complaints from fans as well as reports from Phillies security personnel who witnessed the incident. I think if the fan had decided to press charges instead of taking a stance of "just wanting it to go away" then the outcome would have been different.
