  1. Definitely agree. I'm actually glad that the Eagles didn't do this trade even though they need WR help badly. Williams' numbers for the past 2 years have gone way done and his complaining has gone way up. Looks like the Lions are -finally- doing something right. Let's see Millen? Gone. Kitna? Gone. Williams? Gone. Plus they get a 1st, 3rd, and 6th in 2009. Good moves

  3. Last night early... Anthony Braxton Falling River Quartet and later ... Wire Tonight - Braxton Composition N.103 (for seven trumpets) features 145 pages of notated music and choreography for seven costumed instrumentalists. Composed in 1983, the 45-minute piece was first performed in 2005, in a fully staged and costumed realization at Wesleyan University celebrating Braxton’s 60th birthday. This ANW performance will be the Philadelphia premiere, and only the third performance anywhere, of this major work. Braxton’s Composition N.169 is one of the seminal pieces in the composer’s oeuvre, yet has never been performed by the intended instrumentation. Originally written for brass quintet (on swivel chairs), 169 consists of an hour of intense and unrelenting rhythmic complexity, contrasting with sections of lush, static harmonies. Braxton never found an ensemble brave enough to tackle the imposing piece, so instead has performed the work in configurations ranging from saxophone quartet to full orchestra. This ANW performance marks the second time this composition will be staged with its original instrumentation.

  7. You mean the Dodgers signed him to a two-year $36.2 million contract and then left him off the playoff roster because, like some posters said in this forum at the time of the signing last December, that he just flat out sucks???? Ha Ha.
  8. ((((Cubs fans))))
  9. On the Dime. It was just broadcast on some German radio station this past week. Have you heard the '64 disc?? Very good, although at times I find myself playing "Spot the Influence"game when I listen to it. "Okay, this is their Monk song....."

  12. Did anyone hear the announcer last night who said that he loved playing in Chicago because,"the fans never boo the Cubs. They'll boo the visiting teams but never the Cubs." ?? Unfortunately, I turned the game off after Manny's homer made it 6-0 because I would have loved to have heard what he said after the fans booed the home town team out of Wrigley. Fans were disgusted, and they left so early you would have thought the game had been played at Dodger Stadium, not Wrigley Field. Those who stayed booed loudly, particularly whenever right fielder Kosuke Fukudome, the darling of the club early in the season, flailed at the plate. These are not the cute, pleasantly drunk Cubs fans of the past. That all disappeared after the Bartman game. These are passionate, yet impatient and increasingly bitter, fans who desperately want a payoff for their decades of devotion. In other words, they're becoming like Red Sox fans were before 2004. "Why do you guys want to talk to them?" one fan said as he passed the line of reporters waiting outside the Cubs' clubhouse after the game. "Ask Lou why they sucked so much tonight," another suggested helpfully. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2008...tory?id=3623396

  18. Have you guys seen the hit on Anquan Boldin??? http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80b2da69 That's some scary stuff. Eric Smith has to be fined and suspended for that hit.
  19. Which Oliver Perez shows up for the Mets today, the one that can pitch 8 innings with two hits and 9Ks, or the one that pitches 4 innings with 6 walks? Massive clutch performance by Santana yesterday, complete game shutout knowing his bullpen is bull----. I feel sorry for the Mets fans, I am just an old softie. I have been there too many times. Perhaps their GM will learn next year a (good)bullpen is important! Braves thought for years it wasn't that big a deal, and kept getting bit in the ass by it...Smoltz would have won 20 Games in 2007 with a good one. and Santana was 16-7 for the year, 2.53 ERA, best in the league. Why so little Cy Young talk for him??? His bullpen blew 7 games for him. Better not be Webb this year. Lincecum, Sabathia, or Santana, should be the choices, IMHO.... How about Brad Lidge? A perfect 41 for 41 in save opportunities.
  20. "Let me tell you this: Without Santana, we felt as a team that we have a chance to win in our division. With him now, I have no doubt that we're going to win in our division," Beltran said. "So this year, to Jimmy Rollins -- we are the team to beat!" -- Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran Feb. 16, 2008
  21. THE PHILS WIN THE NL EAST!!!!
  22. In 1982, Newman and his friend A.E. Hotchner founded Newman's Own, a food company that produced food ranging from pasta sauces to salad dressing to chocolate chip cookies. "The embarrassing thing is that the salad dressing is outgrossing my films," Newman once wryly noted. To date, the company -- which donates all profits to charities such as Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang camp -- has given away more than $200 million. Newman established the camp to benefit gravely ill children. Now that's amazing. R.I.P. Paul. You did good.
  23. Oh man, I'm just hoping that the Phils can hang on somehow. The way that they have been playing the last two games I would not be surprised if they end up the odd man out.
  24. And I hatin' his team's bullpen.
