What Toyota knows that GM doesn’t
Chalupa replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
WORD. Be careful of laying this all on the UAW. Some would do well to remember the old saying,"“A fish rots from the head and not from the tail." Yeah, the health care costs are hurting the bottom line but who gave the unions those benefits? Who gave the unions their generous pension plans?? Who gave the workers the enviable hourly wage? And who has been foisting crappy products on the consumer for the past 30+ years? Well what about the bloated compensation for the GM executives? Why isn't that a part of this discussion? The management doesn't get it and probably never will. I mean they fly in their own private jets to D.C. to beg for a bail out?? WTF? Bankruptcy or bail out? I was originally for the bail out plan but now I'm starting to think the opposite. Those jobs will be lost either way. If the Big 3 survive they're not going to move the jobs to "right to work" states in the South. That's a pipe dream. They're going to move the jobs out of the country. GM just opened a new manufacturing plant in Russia and they are spending $1 Billion to build a new plant in Brazil. The bail out will just help finance their moving their production out of the US. So maybe we should let them go into receivership. It would save the taxpayers a lot of cash. -

Seriously though, all these awards are nice and and all but there's only one accolade that really matters.

Pedroia, who already has won Rookie of the Year, a World Series ring, and MVP in just two full major-league seasons, might not have been a baseball player at all but for an accident. He was quarterbacking the freshman football team at Woodland High School in California when his ankle was broken by the star linebacker of Elk Grove High, near Sacramento. The linebacker was Lance Briggs, now of the Chicago Bears. There must be thousands of guys in central California right now bragging about how they played in that game with two big-name pros. Thousands.

That picture almost makes me forget how bad the Eagles are. Thanks.

From today's Inquirer.... South Philadelphia native actress Linda Fiorentino (Remember "The Last Seduction"?) was among a large dinner party at Franco Borda's High Note Cafe (13th & Tasker) last night celebrating the opening of Chazz Palminteri's one-man show "A Bronx Tale," which plays the Merriam through Nov. 23. Sandwich mogul Tony Luke, Jr. was also a guest in the party hosted by local actor/producer Frank Sisto. While in town we hear Palminteri will visit Tony Luke's South Jersey home for a private screening of "The Nail: The Joey Nardone Story," in which Luke plays an amateur boxer and ex-con....On Wednesday night, Jersey funnyman Joe Piscopo brought Palminteri and a few other friends the other night at Chris’ Jazz Cafe (1421 Sansom) to catch the Matt Davis Quintet.

Well I guess everyone knew the Yankees were gonna hitch up the money truck for Sabathia but now Hank Steinbrenner is saying they are going to go after Burnett and Lowe too. Cripes. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3703112

Well not only did the Pistons beat the Lakers and the Nuggets defeat the C's but the Sixers came back from a 26 point deficit to beat the Pacers last night in Indiana. I turned the game off in utter disgust at the end of the first quarter when the Pacers were up 38-15.

From espn.com.... The New York Yankees acquired center fielder-first baseman Nick Swisher in a trade with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. Not even average Nick Swisher in 2008 had the worst batting average among players with at least 502 plate appearances, the number needed to qualify for the batting title. From the bottom up Nick Swisher, White Sox .219 Daric Barton, A's .226 Michael Bourn, Astros .229 Jack Cust, A's .231 Mark Ellis, A's .233 Rickie Weeks, Brewers .234 Kevin Millar, Orioles .234

Isn't "Chippie" slang for prostitute? -
You know I think Fredi Garcia should have got the NL manager of the year award. Nobody expected the Marlins to contend and they were in the mix until late August. They had the lowest opening day payroll and still managed to win 84 games in a division w/ the Mets and the World Fucking Champions. Their payroll role of $21 million was dead last in the MLB this year. The Cubs, who were just about everyone's preseason pick, nay lock for the WS; had a payroll role of $116M. I mean do you give the award to the guy who's team plays up to expectations or do you give it to the guy with the minor league payroll?? Hello. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/salaries

I stayed in Paris for a week in January back when I was in college. The weather was fine, albeit gray skies the whole time. It was warmer than it would be on the East Coast during January. Go for it.

Yeah I really liked his drumming. Interesting that when Hendrix re-started the "Jimi Hendrix Experience" again after Band of Gypsies broke up that he recruited Mitchell and not Noel Redding to back him up.

The "World Fucking Champions" open the 2009 MLB regular season on April 5 vs. the Braves. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb

So the 4 and 0 Pistons played their first game w/ AI and .... lost. Denver w/ Billups won.

Reports are that Joe D was trying to make a trade all summer but could not close a deal. Piston players should not be "wondering," Joe D served notice on ALL of them at close of last season when Pistons lost Eastern Finals again. Trade had nothing to do with start record this season. :bwallace2: Okay, but... I think when you make a trade like this you do it because A. it's a slam dunk for your team OR B. you're writing off the season and you're jockeying for next years FA's by shedding contracts. Well I don't think it's a slam dunk but I can see why the trade makes sense if Dumars wants to position the Pistons for a big name FA signing next summer. Obviously, getting rid of Billups contract is key for that strategy to work. And AI's $20M comes off the books at the end of the season. Which to me says that he's writing off this season which I find curious when they were only two games into it at the time of the trade.
-
Oh and the Sixers have officially made basketball exciting again for Philly fans.
-
I'm not sure if this is a bad trade for Detroit. AI still has a lot left in the tank. However, I do wonder about the timing of the trade. I mean they were only two games into the season and they decided to do a major shake up of the roster?? I could understand pulling the trigger if they had started say 0 and 4, a la the Sac Kings, but the Pistons seemed to doing alright. So why now?? From what I read about the reactions from the Detroit players they were wondering as well.

Can't believe no one has started a thread yet... Any way... How about Iverson going to the Pistons??? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3679931
