A flat-chested young lady went to Dr. Smith about enlarging her tiny breasts. Dr. Smith advised her, "Every day after your shower rub your chest and say, "Scooby doobie doobies, I want bigger boobies." She did this faithfully for several months and it worked! She grew terrific D-cup boobs! One morning she was running late, got on the bus and in a panic realized she had forgotten her morning ritual. Frightened she might lose her lovely boobs if she didn't recite the little rhyme, she stood right there in the middle aisle of the bus closed her eyes and said, "Scooby doobie doobies, I want bigger boobies." A guy sitting nearby looked at her, "By any chance, are you a patient of Dr. Smith's?" "Why, yes I am . . . How did you know?" He leaned closer, winked and whispered, "Hickory dickory dock!"

Agree with all of this. There is plenty of blame to go around. Minaya and the players are just as blameworthy. Manuel has been the bench coach for the past 2 seasons - doesn't he deserve some of the blame too? Instead they reward him w/ Willie's job.

The Mets fire Randolph after winning two games in a row. Nice timing.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Chalupa replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Friday night I saw MV and EE and the Golden Road. Good stuff. The Philly indie music contingent was out in full force. Saw members of the Espers, Bardo Pond, and the guitarist Jack Rose in attendance. Saturday night I saw Sonny Simmons and Bobby Few. Sonny claims that it was his first time ever in Philly. The last time Bobby Few was here was back in 1992 w/ Steve Lacy. They did not disappoint. -

I just got an email from the fine folks at Fledg'ling Records informing me that they have it in stock!!! In 1969 the Chris McGregor Group were riding high on the London jazz scene, playing and hanging out with all the rising stars of British free jazz. Sessions for the previously unreleased Up To Earth brought together a dream team of South African exiles and some of the finest young players on the British scene - Chris McGregor piano, Dudu Pukwana alto saxophone, Mongezi Feza trumpet, Louis Moholo drums, John Surman baritone saxophone and bass clarinet, Evan Parker tenor saxophone with Barre Phillips or Danny Thompson on double bass. Up To Earth was produced by Joe Boyd and engineered by John Wood at Sound Techniques studio in London, during the same months they were also working with several other luminaries of the Witchseason stable - Fairport Convention, Nick Drake and the Incredible String Band. The album was mastered and test pressings produced before the project was shelved. The group morphed into the spectacular big band - the Brotherhood of Breath – and all energies were transferred to recording the Brotherhood’s debut album. Fledg’ling Records are very proud to release this remarkable album as part of our campaign to reissue Chris McGregor’s wonderfully creative recordings from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. track list: 1 Moonlight Aloe 2 Yickytickee / Union Special 3 Up To Earth 4 Years Ago Now http://www.thebeesknees.com/?p=224

TESTIFY!! I'm swearing off Ebay used vinyl for good. I've bought too many LPs lately that were either described as "Near Mint" or "VG++" that sound like crap. What really pisses me off is that these sellers have 100% feedback w/ a 4.8 or 4.9 rating for "item as described." WTF?? There are maybe 4 or 5 sellers that I can count on and that's it.

Ars Nova Workshop presents: Saturday, June 14, 8pm SONNY SIMMONS + BOBBY FEW with Sonny Simmons, alto saxophone; and Bobby Few, piano Philadelphia Art Alliance, 251 S. 18th Street $12 General Admission Please join Ars Nova Workshop for a very rare Philadelphia performance featuring Sonny Simmons and Bobby Few. Saxophonist Sonny Simmons made a number of striking albums in the 1960s, first coming to attention with his debut recording “The Cry!” with the Prince Lasha Quintet. During this time, he made live appearances with Sonny Rollins, performed in sessions with Eric Dolphy, and recorded with John Coltrane's rhythm section - Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner and Jimmy Garrison - on "Illumination!” (Impulse). He also recorded with Charles Mingus, Anthony Braxton, Frank Lowe, Sunny Murray, Don Cherry and many others, and in 1966 he led his own group on two critically-acclaimed LPs for the legendary ESP-Disk label. Back in public eye after a significant time away from the stage, Simmons has recently performed with the Norwegian all-star unit Crimetime Orchestra (with Paal Nilssen-Love, Bugge Wesseltoft and Kjetil Møster) and released four excellent recordings on Jazzaway Records. He performed at Wire Magazine’s 25th Anniversary Festival in London and toured with the group Tight Meat (David Keenan and Alex Neilson). For this special performance he is reunited with Steve Lacy-collaborator and pianist Bobby Few, who first recorded with Booker Ervin on “The In Between” (Blue Note) and with Albert Ayler on “Music Is The Healing Force of the Universe” (Impulse).
