  1. Hey all--Jsngry has given me the green light to begin a new thread about this topic, which is so threatening and pertinent to us all right now. I learned much of value from the previous one (the bogus nature of the so-called "Stanford" list, for starters), but it was shut down because it turned political, and in a very volatile way. While I understand that many of us harbor strong feelings about the causes and handling of this crisis, we cannot bring politics into the discussion on this particular forum. So please, post personal updates, public information of use, news, etc.--but do not weigh in in any manner that sets a political fuse burning. Here's Jsngry's response to my request to start a new thread: Feel free to open the thread, with my blessings. Note that no posts were deleted from the closed thread, I can and will repeat this process as much as necessary. But yes, communication and information are critical, so go ahead, start a new thread, quote me if you like, and stress what the guidelines will be. And that they will be enforced. So stay well, all, and stay apolitical in this thread (and elsewhere on the board).
  2. Restraining myself from responding to this, since it is so overtly political (and yes, I realize it's in response to Captain Howdy's post in the first place), but to somehow equate DeBlasio's reluctance to close the public schools in NYC--a decision with very detrimental implications for all kinds of people who already suffer from the societal inequality propagated by the rightwing ideology of the past 40 years in the first place--with the tidal wave of false, reckless, and irresponsible bullshit spouted for the past few weeks by DT and all of his Trumpinista ideologue followers (happy to provide plenty of quotes, both from Dear Leader himself and his minions in his party) is desperate and insulting. And while the above exchange is indeed political, I understand why CH is so upset. We are talking lives and the future of the earth in the issues he addresses. Bingo.
  3. Absolutely maddening, infuriating, and yes, pretty much the equivalent of verbal reckless manslaughter. Also this: Italy is trying to send us a warning. Will we listen?
  4. We re-aired Jazz Women Of The 1980s this past week and it remains archived for online listening.
  5. Re Louis Hayes/Junior Cook: yes! And you get Woody Shaw thrown into the bargain as well.
  6. Completely agree with everything you said, Rooster. And the idiocy and denial at work among the many diehard DT backers in this country is now actively endangering the population. Amen!
  7. My best friend just gave me a grocery bag full of books from the Hard Case Crime series.
  8. I've got the expanded Forever Changes that came out after the Love Story anthology. Haven't picked up the reissues of the first two albums yet, though.
  9. As bad as the health impact could be, the economic impact could be even more destructive.
  10. Thanks as well. I did a couple of Night Lights shows about the Jazz Workshop albums many years ago and recall not being able to dig up as much info about Jack Lewis as I would have liked. You do tremendous work, James.
  11. Went ahead and pulled out my old Modern Library copy of The Plague for first rereading in 35+ years. As a teenager I all but worshipped Camus, so going back to this novel at this particular moment will be interesting, I’m sure:
  12. Listening to a lot of early-to-mid 1940s Ellington the past couple of days and may start making my way through the Treasury series again:
  13. I don’t think there’s going to be much live music going on anywhere (in terms of clubs and concerts) for the next few weeks.
  14. NHL suspended, as is MLB spring training and Opening Day delayed by at least two weeks.
  15. THAT Kenny Rodgers--you're probably right, Jim. Was there some discussion of him here at some point? I'm familiar with him only through the Lee date and maybe one other that isn't coming to mind right now. I think I'm also remembering him from either Loud Minority or Well Water: Kenny Rodgers music credits
  16. Have some respect for the fake dead, Jim!
  17. There were reports last year that the original version would be released as well, but not sure that's still the case.
