Make that 5. Hope it's a character-builder. Bring on tomorrow. It's a Sunday night ESPN broadcast, ergo NY is doomed from the start. Seems like they lose every time they're on ESPN, especially on Sunday nights... posters at PA joke about the ESPN "curse". Hopefully (from a Yankees perspective, of course ) NY will snap out of it against your truly-tuff Rangers. You guys aren't even at full strength right now, what with Hamilton out of the lineup, and you've still got one of the best records in the MLB. Dave--with Phil Hughes rapidly becoming this year's version of Javy Vazquez, let's hope Soriano doesn't turn into this year's version of Joba Chamberlain (though the 2011, 7th-inning-reliever edition of Chamberlain seems to be doing rather well... a commenter over at PA noted that he's having more success throwing his slider for strikes this year).

Yanks just demoted Phil Hughes to their AAA Scranton farm team.

Hey, in the process he lowered his ERA from 16ish to 13ish... dude's making progress! Seriously, it is a huge problem for NY if Hughes is going to be this year's version of Javy. At least we pulled it out tonight and moved into sole possession of first in the AL East... I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Good thing A-Rod and Cano are hitting, as the rest of the offense is still looking pretty anemic (although Russell Martin thus far is persuading me that our off-season wasn't quite as disastrous as it seemed). EDIT: credit to Posada, too, I guess, who's hitting only .189... but every time he does get a hit, it seems to be a home run. Just watched replays of the Granderson/Swisher catches, and Hughes' outing could have been even worse if they don't make those plays. Hughes did hit 92 mph a couple of times in the first inning, but was only in the high 80s afterwards.

Saw him here in Bloomington several years ago, and it was an amazing concert. Very sorry to hear this news.

Yankees are hitting a lot of HRs and not much else--a .236 team BA to date. Boston not far behind at .231 (going into tonight's game). I don't think Teixeira has gotten a single hit since taking that ball off his knee. I didn't see the game itself, but one of the regular bloggers at PA said he looked terrible in every AB that game after getting hit. Not sure if there's any correlation, but he went from torrid at the plate to stone-cold dead.

'...Horizon' is Benson "put in the right environment". It's his masterpiece, and quite atypical for CTI (no sweetener), and my favorite jazz guitar album. The title track from the Hubbard is gorgeous in a prototypical CTI manner. Also, 'White Rabbit' is one of the best "typical" CTI's (sweetener galore, but it all works). Agree w/Felser--BEYOND is a really solid Benson outing, Matthew. I have the Mosaic Contemporary edition (whatever happened to that series, eh?) and probably won't be too inclined to go for the new one, but you ought to snag it if you're into GB at all.
