  1. Yeah, never got to this, though I suppose I still could—just pulled that Pacific piano-trio Mosaic Select off the shelf the other day, actually. And yes, the Chambers book did come out… I can’t even remember now what I’d heard about some possible indefinite delay.
  2. This one tain’t too bad either:
  3. This is a beautiful record:
  4. It seems to rate highly in the critical canon today, but did it get a cool reception when it came out? Interesting that Lennon and McCartney both put out such stripped-down records for their respective solo debuts. The Lennon one hits pretty deep with me whenever I listen to it.
  5. More above-par early-1960s Bud. My appreciation for this period has only deepened as I’ve gotten older:
  6. Part of the Herbie Hancock Columbia box set:
  7. Heads up for fans of the little-known singer Midge Williams—she’s featured here on a brief “Heebie Jeebie Blues.”
  8. Must be a magenta haze in the air tonight!
  9. Up for Wes' centennial today: From Naptown To Paris: Wes Montgomery Live
  10. Up in memory: Shorter Lee: Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter
  11. We’ll be re-airing this show in another week or so—upping it this weekend in memory: The Wayne Shorter Songbook
  12. Not sure if he posts here or not, but I have to put in a plug for the new Ramsey Lewis memoir that my friend Aaron co-authored:
  13. Two short years later... 🙂 Happy 20th anniversary, Organissimo! 03/03/03-03/03/23 and counting.
  14. When you think about the breadth and duration of his career--not to mention the talent--Wayne belongs in a very, very small group of musicians that includes Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams, and Miles Davis. His legacy is immense. What a blessing that he stopped here on the planet for as long as he did.
