I deliberately sought out the UK edition when I read it a couple of years ago. The US version is abridged and about 200 pages shorter. It's a great book!

We did a tribute to Michael and his WFIU years yesterday, with remembrances and reflections from some Bloomington area musicians and advocates who knew him during his 1970s/early 80s run at the station before moving on to New York City. Anon, Anon: Michael Bourne, 1946-2022

Nate Chinen has moved from WBGO to WRTI-Philadelphia, where another former WBGO colleague, Greg Bryant (who co-hosted the excellent Jazz United podcast with Nate) has also started as the new weeknight jazz host, taking over for the venerable Bob Perkins: Transitions, Transitions

The physical edition of this set seems to have gone OOP (weirdly enough, I’d pulled mine off the shelf just several hours before news of Taylor’s death broke—it includes Michael Bourne’s old WFIU theme music, Joe Farrell’s “Follow Your Heart”), but used copies are floating around online, and it’s on Spotify. Highly recommended as a CTI overview, along with the expanded CD reissue of California Concert: CTI: The Cool Revolution

Josh Jackson of WRTI is reporting on Facebook that Michael Bourne passed away at the age of 75 last night. The afternoon jazz slot that I host here at WFIU in Bloomington, IN was Michael's from 1972 until 1984, when he left for New York City and ultimately landed at WBGO, making a global name for himself as a DJ. Still much-missed and loved by older listeners here in Bloomington who remember hearing him.
