  1. Don't worry, maren, your secret's safe with all 56 of us active abusers--I mean, users!
  2. Yikes. The rest of it sounds like fun, though.
  3. ...or discuss politics. You have mistaken me for somebody else, my good man. B-)
  4. We had free cable in our old apartment, and I probably watched 5-6 hours a week. When we bought our house we decided to go without, and I don't really miss it at all. Sometimes I wish I had it for the Daily Show or TVLand, but all in all I'd rather listen to jazz or read.
  5. Please, folks, no more PMs. My poor little mailbox can't take it. My personal assistant will get back to you as quickly as possible... now I'm off to see my stylist! B-)
  6. Right-o--should bump me up to 96 percent!
  7. Do you even get any PMs, Ghost? Oooooooooo, what a meanie! More than you know... actually, you do know!
  8. Probably more like "error of popularity."
  9. Why, both of course!
  10. Mine's always at about the 95% mark... dammit, I should let it fill up so somebody can start a thread like this about me! Conveys that "aura of popularity," you know...
  11. Just pulled the trigger on the new Marx Brothers DVD box that's coming out Tuesday. Wagstaff: Members of the faculty, faculty members, students of Huxley and Huxley students - I guess that covers everything. Well, I thought my razor was dull until I heard this speech. And that reminds me of a story that's so dirty I'm ashamed to think of it myself. As I look over your eager faces, I can readily understand why this college is flat on its back. The last college I presided over, things were slightly different. I was flat on my back. Things kept going from bad to worse but we all put our shoulders to the wheel and it wasn't long before I was flat on my back again.
  12. Of course, a definite Sonny Rollins set, with everything from the best tape sources and in session order! The recent reissue of the bridge sound so much better than the last box set version. That would indeed be cool. I doubt that Sonny would sign off on it, though. (Geez, sorry to keep sounding like such a pessimist!)
  13. I put instant coffee in my microwave and almost went back in time.
  14. That would make sense... Wenzel's been involved almost exclusively with 1925-1950 sets, correct? Whatever comes out, I'll be happy.
  15. I think that's about it for JJ's RCAs. 4 LPs Sounds ripe for a Select. Some great suggestions, DrJ! I've looked long and hard for that Bechet RCA set... Lon will be along any minute to suggest a Complete Una Mae Carlisle, and I'll have his back on it.
  16. A few that come to mind... J.J. Johnson Lou Levy Joe Williams Lockjaw Davis Phineas Newborn and one that I'm not even familiar with, the Sauter-Finegan band. I wonder if there's any unreleased Rollins material... I have three (all three?) of the J.J. Johnson RCAs and like two of them very much. I'm thinking there were alternate Rollins takes that he kept off the RCA box... don't know if those will ever see the light of day, or if Mosaic would want to re-do a box so (relatively) recently released. I'd like to hear the Sauter-Finnegan material as well, and certainly the Phineas.
  17. So what other RCA or RCA-related sets would folks like to see? In addition to the Burton, Braxton, and Rogers ideas already mentioned...
  18. Great news, Mike! Though not for my wallet... Wow, wow, wow.
  19. Mosaic traditionally has had a hard time getting material from BMG... Cuscuna once said, "It's hard to get anybody there to call us back" (in reference to why there hadn't been an Arista Braxton set yet). From what I hear they torpedoed the originally-planned Tristano set, and outside of the Jacquet material (which came out 8 years ago), I don't think Mosaic has put out anything for a long time that was leased from BMG. I could be overlooking something, but it just seems as if BMG doesn't much like leasing to them. Maybe the merger with Sony will change that, since Sony leases quite often to Mosaic. Hope it's not the other way around. But a Shorty Rogers RCA set would be sweet indeed. I just got my hands on a copy of THE SWINGIN' NUTCRACKER, at last, at last...
  20. It was included in the 5-CD Desmond RCA box that BMG put out a few years back. I love it... a great summertime record in particular.
  21. My God, it's actually in the Yahoo "top stories" newsbox: Bushkin
  22. These look wonderful, Late! How much are they apiece through Early Records?
  23. I'm a fan of TENNESSEE FIREBIRD, LOFTY FAKE ANAGRAM, and A GENUINE TONG FUNERAL, and I certainly wouldn't mind making the acquaintance of the other albums... great idea, DrJ! Whether or not Mosaic could ever pry the masters from BMG is a problem, though... I'm really curious as to how the Sony-BMG merger will pan out in this regard.
  24. Somebody may be able to offer compelling legal reasons not to do so, and I know that you can't presume someone's guilt based on this, but really, if you were accused of murder and you were innocent, wouldn't you be getting your keister up there on the witness stand?
