I was minding my own business at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, eyeballing Rembrandt's "The Night Watch" - taking it all in while the room was relatively empty. Looked over and saw that the guy standing next to me looking at the painting was John McEnroe. And he was wearing sunglasses.

I'd pay matinee prices to see that.

Wishing a very happy birthday to the king of thread starters from the threadkiller himself, DTMX. Okay, my first post didn't work out because the image I was linking to upped and died on me. It was a photo of a birthday cake shaped like a Hooter's waitress. This is the only other birthday cake picture I could find that featured a couple of boobs:

Walking down the hall, minding my own business

I'll never forget that feeling when I was riding into Minneapolis to see Ornette last April and I saw a billboard advertising Kenny G at the Mystic River Casino. Part of me died inside... until Ornette restored me. -
Or Jimmy Lyon's Wee Sneezawee and the box set.

Coming this fall to VH1 - Yanni: Behind the Muzak (for Dennis Miller-esque mugshot) -
Last I heard, he married the photographer who shot the photos for the Off White album, they moved to France, and she died recently. He may still be in France.

Sounds like Yanni to me. -
What a stupid and raciste post. Why IT? she's not a human being anymore? DTMX you are just a stupid moron, to say the least and your "humour" smells like your feet. Having reviewed my post I do realize that I was in error. My response was juvenile, and to my shame - a public display of my immature and my racist ways. I apologize to all members of this board who were offended by my insensitive comments. Though I may have mocked, I admire the courage that one must gather to undertake such a drastic change in body modification. Certainly it is not a decision to be made lightly, nor should I have made sport of one who felt that this life-altering change was necessary for them to live a fulfilling life. Wendy Carlos, Jennifer Leitham, David Palmer - all transgendered artists. But do I consider them artists, not its - only because I feel a connection with their musical talents? What about the transgendered individual who cannot carry a tune - how would I see that person? Would I see them as a person or would I only see the transgendered part of that person (metaphorically speaking, of course). I have much to think about. It is time for me to re-evaluate myself: my thoughts, my attitudes, my racist ways. What do I have to offer the world, and what can I do to make amends for the pain that I brought to society? Like I said, I have much to think about. Thank you.

You know, someone has to really, really want to become a woman, knowing in advance that they are going to be a really, really ugly woman. Lastly, Faucon complains about supervisors still referring to her as a he or a sir. Since she has legally changed gender from male to female, she wants the misuse of pronouns to stop. "The proper terminology should be she, her or ma'am. Not he, sir, or his." How 'bout it. Is it okay? Last one, then I have to get to work: I guess she stopped being a fireman when they cut off her hose. /Thank you, you've been great. Come back for the late show - it gets a little blue.

What a coincidence that you should bring Formanek's name up. I just noticed today that he's playing in a duo w/ Dave Burrell here in Philly in a few weeks. I spoke with him once, at a Tim Berne Bloodcount gig. He was pretty cool. Bought his Extended Animation CD from him and he threw in an extra copy of the same CD, except this one came from the factory with audio of a Swedish hair-metal band called Opus. No charge for the Opus, either.

Holy shitballs! There's only one within 10 miles of me and it's the guy that was best man at my parents' wedding (talk about a marriage that was doomed from the start). We lost track of this guy about 30 years ago, but it's the same first and last name, and the same address the guy was at 30 years ago - looks like him too, 'cept he ain't smiling in the photo I found on the county website. Sexual battery - of what, it doesn't say. Well, that drunken mob's not going to incite itself - guess I'd better get going... -
What sheldonm said. I had a hernia patched up outpatient-style a few years ago and I was fine. Puttered around for a week or so, had to c a r e f u l l y get in and out of bed (or a chair), but it wasn't too bad. Now daytime television - that's bad. I don't recommend more than 4 judge shows per day, and in the ATL Oprah comes on at 4PM, so make sure your TV is off. I'm sure you'll be up and posting in no time. But don't push it - you only get one chance to heal. Start with small, right-of-center topics before working your way up to more controversial issues. Keep your sense of humor and try make the nurses smile - it never hurts to make friends with the medical staff. See you back here in a couple of days, Doug

I think it had to do with Crouch organizing competing gigs during the loft scene days, and screwing up the RivBea scene by luring musicians away with lies and threats. Granted, the reasons might not look good on paper, but having Stanley Crouch up in his face at that moment might have been enough to push Sam over the edge. I've never exchanged more than a few words with him, but Sam Rivers seems like the nicest, coolest person in the world.
-
My favorite part was when Sam Rivers decked the Grouch: (Eugene Chadbourne talking:) "I saw Stanley Crouch get decked by Sam Rivers one time, that was a great experience, Sam Rivers laid him out cold right on the stage." - Rick Lopez' Sam Rivers Sessionography site

Can you or do you make a decent living as a jazz musician?
DTMX replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Non musician here, have supported many musician friends in the past... Two quotes I always liked: If you want to make money in music, sell band uniforms - Henry Mancini If you want to starve, play the blues. If you want to starve to death, play jazz - Some guy I can't remember -
Happy Birthday! One of my favorite avatars, ever!
